  1. Lark was indeed an actual brand of cigarettes. I recall from my childhood the commercials and the slogan "Show us your Lark" with people flashing the camera their packs of Lark cigarettes. George Carlin even mocks the ads in one of his old routines.

I was wondering why the Wet Bike in TSWLM was considered a gadget and not a vehicle a la Little Nellie.

  2. Abstaining this week in lieu of a Neither option. Both were movies I watched to check off my cultural literacy list and found to be very unremarkable.

Ditto. I never loved either of these movies. If pressed, I like Being There more. I love both The Last Detail and Shampoo would Canon-ize the former.

  3. Quick dark horse vote for Wonder Woman to be in the discussion. In addition to it being one of the best comic book superhero movies, it spurred on feminist empowerment discussion with a terrific character and another excellent female director.

  4. Don't forget 'bout that Superego Cinema commentary of Man With The Golden Gun with Matt G. as I.F.

Chris Tallman's Herve has a lot to say.

Thanks, I'll have to look that one up.

I believe they said that they'd be doing these...BEHIND THE PAYWALL!

I guess that mention got by me. It'll be worth it.

  5. I really enjoyed this ep. Like many, I think T2T should have been in the discussion. As all one story perhaps it should have been a debate of is the trilogy Canon or not. Since we have to vote between these two I went with the Fellowship. Some of my favorite moments are in Return ("I am no man!"), but the overall story from the beautiful, bucolic beginning to the journey south to the heart tearing breaking of the fellowship is better.

  6. Great news! I knew when I saw a new, but very brief, Canon in my Downcast that it was coming back. It was just great hearing Amy make it official. I am looking forward to hearing the new show (reboot?). And I am happy that Amy and Devin are in contact and he is doing what he needs to come to terms with what happened. I hope he comes back when he is ready. Counting the days until "they're ba-ack!"

  7. There were a few movies I really liked this year including Hell or High Water, Everybody Wants Some, Captain Fantastic, Deadpool. But "canon-worthy" for 2016? I would say only Hell or High Water and Captain Fantastic. I think maybe The Edge of Seventeen could be debated for inclusion. I haven't seen La La Land or Manchester by the Sea yet, but I hope they are worthy of being in the discussion.

  8. It's been almost two months since this all started. Since this the the official topic thread, I wanted to ask here if there are there any official updates in regard to the future of The Canon? Should the listeners hold out hope for a return in some way, shape or form, or is it time to just move on?

  9. I feel like I was a little late to The Canon party, but I have had a blast catching up with the library and keeping up with the new ones.

This is quite the bombshell and I can't add much to what has already been said until I process it more and see what the players say/do in the future. I wish all those involved the best.

Is this a cue for continued discussion of separating the art from the artist?

For now, I will continue to catch up with the canon of The Canon and will keep checking here, Twitter and other sources for news on the situation.

Regardless of what comes next, I want to thank Devin and Amy for all the great episodes, and the entertaining and engaging movie discussions.
