Not that I'm picking any movies, but this makes me wonder what my mom would recommend...

    Musical Mondays-Week 7-Cabaret!

I mean, I could be more rambly if you really want, but it's not gonna be anything significant. It took me a while before I got that the cabaret show songs WERE related to the story. Also I felt bad I didn't recognize Liza Minnelli when I had seen her on The Muppet Show. I missed her name during the opening credits. She's a great performer. None of the guys rate high on the TN Scale imho. And agreed that Max's moustache was hard to see at first and just looked weird the whole time. I loved how Natalia was taller than Fritz. I enjoyed the song "Mein Herr" but it went on so long I ended up checking my phone. The mannequin game is strong in this movie. I don't think Brian is the right person to translate that erotic novel.

    Musical Mondays-Week 7-Cabaret!

Home from work, so I can finally comment! First of all, I went into this musical knowing almost nothing about it, aside from a couple songs my roommate remembered. While I cannot say I loved it, I can definitely say it was an entertaining watch. Minor note, we watched it with subtitles and it kept throwing me off, because my roommate and I both studied some German in high school, and I was like "Why are they translating 'Fraulein' to 'Miss'? Is it that difficult?" Things like that. I kept distracting myself lol As others stated, it was interesting how it brought in topics that weren't usually approached at that time. I can appreciate that. It's very in your face, and uncomfortable, which I think is the point, especially with so much of it wrapped around living in denial. I think it was very well put together, but I also don't feel like I took much away from it. Joining in on the topic of Brian's sexuality, I'm going to lean more towards what Cam Bert was saying and go with it's not something that can really be labeled (at this time). I think he's still on the road to discovering himself, and he never ever says "I like X" to anyone. I believe he's the one who started kissing first when trying to comfort Sally during her breakdown, but so much of this movie is people getting caught up in the moment that it's hard to get a sense of how they truly feel inside. Again, because often they're following delusions. What I found most interesting was how Sally and Brian especially did not judge each other or their lifestyles. When Sally gets the idea that Brian may not like women, she immediately backs off out of respect. When they do hook up, Brian does not try to change Sally or get her out of her world of cabaret. When Sally has the abortion, he is upset, but accepts her reasoning with forgiveness. They are such an odd pair, but their friendship grows deep. Max was such an odd character to me btw, but I also found it interesting that although he initially went after Sally, he fully accepted Brian in as well. The cigarette holder he gives Brian, I at first thought was just an afterthought to try to placate a jealous lover, but looking back... Everything Max bought for Sally she asked for, but the cigarette holder he bought specifically with Brian in mind, without any input. It was thoughtful. But Max also just dumps them to escape out to Argentina, so he's not that good of a friend lol I got a bit into the relationship between Fritz and Natalia. I think I enjoyed them the most. It's so hard though, because they are characters I'd truly want to be happy, but with that setting, it sure looks bleak... Anyway, I think I'll leave it there. I feel I rambled enough.

    Episode 157.5 - Minisode 157.5

If it's any consolation, my roommate likes coconut. And sometimes I'm nice enough to buy cookies with coconut for her. Also different topic, and I'm sure this is old news, but I had no idea until recently that Danny from Game Grumps said HDTGM is his favorite podcast. I'm happy.

Okay, I fiiiiinally, got to watch this, but I haven't gotten to read through the thread yet. Omg 8 pages. *Edit* I'm only finished reading page 2, but wow, you all have had some good discussions going. I'm not sure I'll have much to add being this late in. I gotta sleep for now, so I'll try to catch up more tomorrow.

omg if it was just full of the original movie posters but with their faces photoshopped in lol I'd love it I was tempted to apply, but I realized my art portfolio is severely lacking, so I wouldn't know what to send in as a sample.

    Episode 157.5 - Minisode 157.5

That's possible. I'm not seeing any $50 prices for the book on ebay lol I DID, however, discover there's an AUDIO BOOK version that someone has up for BIN. Performed by Ernie Reyes Jr. That's... someone's treasure.
  15. I'm kinda surprised that I wasn't exposed to it as a kid, considering I had great-grandparents from Norway and Finland. I don't remember anyone in my family eating licorice except for when my mom would buy Twizzlers. I figure I'm just lucky I missed the lutefisk. My grandfather hated that.
  16. On Willy Wonka, the daycare center I went to after school played it a lot (along with The Red Balloon) and we were often forced to sit down and watch them. I think I developed an aversion to freakish things happening to children. I also could not handle Earnest Scared Stupid, which I had to leave the theater shortly after the first kids were turned to wood. In somewhat recent years, my roommate had me try to watch Little Monsters, and I still could not deal and didn't finish the movie. I know I'm the odd one out there. I don't know what happened lol I totally respect that most everyone else likes Willy Wonka, and Gene Wilder was pretty awesome.
  17. I'm still confused but ok whatever. Have fun! I hope it's a slumber party!
  18. Wait, what? I've tried joining the mailing list like 3 times and I still never get anything. What the fuck.
  19. A Finnish girl we used to know once sent us salmiakki for Christmas. That was my first and last time trying any sort of licorice lol

Episode 157 - Surf Ninjas: LIVE!

Sorry to double post, but... I posted my drawing of Zatch to facebook and an old friend from high school replied to it IMMEDIATELY i'm dYING. How does she remember??? When did she last watch it???
  22. I have a Japanese word for you, which I count myself under... I have about four Japanese manga/novel series that I read as soon as I get them, and most other books get neglected on my shelves. Notably I have Nick Offerman's "Paddle Your Own Canoe" mostly read from LAST SUMMER, but I've been a lazy ass on the last couple chapters. I also got "SPQR: A History of Ancient Rome" for Christmas, but haven't really delved into it yet because I keep playing a dumbass mobile game before bed instead of reading. And so, so many more...
  23. Nah man, no worries. I'd give the same reaction if someone was recommending a How to Draw Manga book by Katy Coope. Some things just set you on fire inside. I'm no expert on Shakespeare as I mentioned, so I'm happy to have someone steer me towards better material.
  24. lmao okay. Hey if that's the case, I can dump that book off at Half Price instead and clear off some shelf space. I'll be looking forward to your recommendation then!!
