  1. They say cleanliness is next to godliness, but that filthy Shroud of Turin would lead you to believe otherwise.

    Episode 549 - Prom Womptacular

This podcast brought back the memory that, as a junior in high school, I was asked to draw caricatures at the senior after-prom event. I opted not to do it because I did not want my ass kicked by the upper classmen for the remainder of the school year.

    The Wizard Of Oz

Oh hey, I never thought of this until just now, but I saw "The Wiz" before seeing "The Wizard of Oz". And I hated that shit, too!!!

    The Wizard Of Oz

Haha, I'd never heard of that theory but I get what you're saying. I might be the odd man out though, because I saw Goonies in the theater (I was 9) and thought it was stupid. Time has only made it much, much worse. If I'm making it sound like I hate everything, it's because I do.

    The Wizard Of Oz

I don't know about my favorite, but I HAAAAAAATE that ukulele version of "Over the Rainbow" that has somehow taken over as the definitive version of the song in recent years. That guy is over-simplifying everything that's harmonically interesting about the song. Haha, I used to like this version of the song as a kid, but listening to it now, I can't help but wonder why:

    The Wizard Of Oz

Everyone I know who likes this movie saw it as a child, and has an affection for it based on watching it repeatedly on TV as they grew up. I, however, somehow managed to avoid it my entire childhood, only watching it as a young adult when I read about the possible political allegory. I disliked it to say the least, and didn't understand what all the fuss was about -- even when put into the proper context. So I'm curious if anyone else saw it later in life and didn't care for it. (I never had the interest to go back and view it again, but Paul and Amy are making me feel like I should.)

The settings were still wrong?? I fixed again, for real this time.
  8. Here is a shortened version of this chestnut from '16. Perhaps it was once rejected due to its length and not its threadbare concept?

    Automatic for the People

I'd given up on the band at this point. Listening to "Drive" for the first time in years, I'm reminded of why. In fact, I don't like any of the songs on this album.

    Green with Lance Bangs

Listening to these tracks now after many years.... I bought this album around the time it was released but, outside of the 4 big hits, I barely remember the other songs on this album. Even at the time, all the non-hits just sounded (and still do sound) like filler to me. That said, I'm probably one of the few people that like Out of Time better than this album (which also has a lot of filler, but I like the filler better?)

    Out of Time

RE: Endgame I was a trumpet player in junior high at the time this album came out, and I remember thinking it was neat that there was an instrumental featuring flügelhorn (and one that was easy to play). There wasn't much to latch onto during this time period in terms of contemporary pop music if you were a trumpet player. I'm trying to think what the hell else I was taking my cue from at the time, musically. Fishbone? Old Blood Sweat and Tears albums?? You really had to seek out inspiration -- outside of just straight-up jazz, which is a tough entry point for kids. Anyway, I appreciated the track for this reason.

    Episode 183 - Ladybugs: LIVE!

Also, as one of the older kids on a soccer team that her parents have sponsored and fervently championed for years, it's strange that this is her first season. Unless it took this long for her parents to finally pressure her into joining the team. But if they KNEW she sucked, why pressure her at all, especially if all they are interested in is winning? I hate that I've spent my time thinking about all this.
