Episode 180 - Howling II: Your Sister Is a Werewolf: LIVE!
The_Triple_Lindy replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I would agree it was a clever reveal ... if Dracula were a werewolf, which is vulnerable to silver, instead of a vampire, which is not :/ BTW, your review of "as timeless as nu-metal" is great. -

I saw this in theaters, and the "Judas/silver/vampire" reveal is the only part I remember. -

Perhaps you gleaned the "Judas is Dracula" plot from this so-so movie: -

Anyone else notice that this ... werewolf cult (?) seems to be holding a dozen captive women, besides the ones they're using in their rituals? There are several in the back of the room during the Stirba ceremony ... ... and there are at least two cages in the room with Jenny during the blood ceremony. What do you suppose the cult's plans are for them? I'd say sacrifice except Stirba seems to be they're deity, unless muttnik is right and they're a satanic cult. Maybe there are other old werewolves that will undergo the life rejuvenation ritual. Or maybe they're going to be converted. Either way, I'm concerned. No one seems to pay them attention, and when random slave girls aren't even worth a mention in your cult, some horrible things must be going down. Plus, they didn't seem to be there later during the orgy, so something happened to them which again, in this cult, didn't even make the highlight reel. By the way, I totally didn't know Lilith was linked to the vampire mythos at all. -

Yeah, that was with a flail mace, and dummy said something like, "That's a new way of killing." People were murdering with maces since before Stirba was lycan. -

Nice wordplay, sir. But serious question: do you think he goes to mass? Is Stefan religious? He prays, he says "in the name of god" when he stabs Stirba, he seems to have a great deal of ceremony about him. But he doesn't seem to take the funeral very seriously, and he also lives in a world full of monsters, and it always throws me with characters in monster movies are religious. Where exactly do werewolves fit into god's plans? Plus, the fact that, real or fictional, I've never seen anyone of any religion pray while squatting. -

Anyone else notice that Christopher Lee is squatting when he prays, rather than kneeling? -

Just want to say, to this point -- a few people here seem to have created accounts in this forum just to say "Tig sucks." -

It's funny how in a movie full of werewolves, the biggest monster is the person who punctuated the title. The Howling 2: ... Your Sister's a Werewolf A colon leading into a ellipsis?! And a fucking contraction in a title?!? Monsters.- 231 replies

I came to boards today before I listened the episode, and seeing people dog on Tig Notaro's appearance probably colored my listening. And still, I enjoyed the episode. If I hadn't gone into this expecting to be kinda disappointed by her, I probably wouldn't have even noticed ... she was pretty quiet for most of the episode anyway. HDTGM has had dud guests before and even the hosts have dropped the ball from time to time (how many times has June admitted that she didn't remember big parts of the movie). Part of what's funny is hearing these guys try to explain the unexplainable to each other. Plus, I think Jason and Paul both gave her an appropriate amount of shit, so I don't think she was getting away with anything. I only didn't like when she teased the audience for being into the movie and the discussion ... that's a dick move. It's fine if you hate a movie that you didn't watch, but lay off the people who are having fun. Beyond that, she didn't really spoil my fun. Plus, unless you bought a ticket, it's free. Don't take it personally. -

What I'm hearing so far is that we need fewer Chuck Norris memes and more Christopher Lee memes. I'm here for that. -
Musical Monday Week 29 Love’s Labour’s Lost

It's as good as anything Kurosawa ever did. $8 is probably reasonable since physical copies are hard to come by for less. Why don't you tell my man where you got the shit hid at ... -

Kurosawa's Ran is basically King Lear and it's amazing. Also, if you've never seen 1995's Richard III with Ian McKellan, you owe it to yourself because it is completely bonkers -- McKellan gives the "Winter of our discontent" line while taking a piss and the "My kingdom for a horse" line while driving a tank. Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton's Taming of the Shrew is one I have a soft spot for, but I could watch anything with Elizabeth Taylor. There's also a documentary called Finding Richard about a Central Park production of Richard III starring Al Pacino that's pretty good. -

It's hard to say what being in the strip club accomplished, but yeah, maybe it got him curious. The way he spazzed out, though, it sorta seemed like ... I'm just saying ... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pXfHLUlZf4 I'm sure you're right, too ... "what's going to happen when this guy gets laid?" has to be on Preston's mind. Preston knew everything about what was going on with Bobby, which means we're not seeing all the wild shit that must have led to these discoveries about Bobby's powers. -

The_Triple_Lindy replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
They might have hesitated because they would've had no idea what would happen. When they went into the strip club, Bobby shorts out and has a psychic panic attack when he sees the naked women ... Preston has a line about how Bobby hasn't developed the sexual side of his nature, and they said he was overwhelmed by the energy. But that's a hell of a reaction to have. If you're right, and he grows up and is cured of some debilitating tics by getting laid and getting that energy out and developing that side of himself, then it would seem that the effects are beneficial, but there was no way they would've known they would be. If they had taken him to a brothel, he could've just as easily burnt the place to the ground -

I picked that photo because he was at the height of things then. You're probably right that Dan Fielding was more hapless than I really remember. He does at one point have a totally open container of them that he spills during a car chase. Lidless tupperware seems an odd choice of Goober conveyance when there are ziplock bags in the world. Anyone who spends three months studying real-life psychics and comes up with the character of Bobby McGee clearly has no sense of humor about himself. I can't tell if him correcting Don Pardo is supposed to be a joke. Because he mispronounces "show" right after. -

Is he trying to do some kind of Kaufman-esque "the joke is on the audience" monologue, where he just gets off on how uncomfortable he makes the audience through how unfunny he's being? That was ... weird, for sure. -
Episode 179 - Second Sight: LIVE!
The_Triple_Lindy replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Genuine curiosity ... what would it take? I can't decide whether it would be easy or difficult to go incognito as a nun in your own convent. Maybe she went "nundercover" in a different convent? Isn't Bobby basically a god? He is telekinetic, telepathic, empathic, omniscient, and a spiritual medium, plus has the ability to heal. The only biblical powers he seems to lack are the power to create and to transubstantiate. His powers may seem convenient but they don't have any evident limits so I'd say it could be more than just plot needs. Meanwhile, Superman's "masonry breath" power is straight out of the screenwriter's ass. If Bobby is a god, that means he could be Superman's creator ... can a god create a hero so powerful that he, himself, cannot defeat them? -
