Great Post! Yes... Miami is way sexier than Orlando in pretty much every possible way. Miami is bikinis, tans, Cuban food, beaches, neon, and the spicy nightlife. Orlando is theme parks, chain restaurants, worn out children, and sunburns. No offense to the folks of Orlando... I'm sure there is some sexiness happening there, too. -
Episode 171 - Miami Connection: LIVE!

Man... this is one of the things that I love about this movie. This scene is so charmingly boilerplate. What does a cocaine deal look like? The docks at night (Check!) coke in large clear plastic bags (Check!) testing the product with a knife (Check!) white panama hats (Check!) And for that matter - do they really have to test the cocaine? Is that a real thing if you're doing drugs deals? Forgive me if this has been said... Michael Scott's Threat Level Midnight on The Office had to take inspiration from Miami Connection (at least I hope). Michael used his movie trope knowledge to make a movie with bizarre cliche after cliche and had his friends (coworkers) star in it. It's terrible, but it is so endearing that everyone loves it. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EANilnIGlao -

That would definitely explain Dolly's effervescent energy and cosmic boobage. -

Old Crow's version is pretty great, but it is so overplayed 'round these parts (I'm southern if y'all haven't figured that out yet) that one of my favorite bars in town has a large sign that says "NO WAGON WHEEL" near their stage. True story. -

So it may be time that I bring up my dad's conspiracy theory about Dolly... well it's not his theory just one he seems to believe. He claims that Dolly is a lesbian who has a sham marriage with her husband Carl Dean and that Dolly has been in a long term relationship with a woman named Judy Ogle for most of her life. There used to be some credence to this because there were almost no photographs with Dolly and her husband in circulation and he was known to - conveniently -not want anything to do with her celebrity life. In the past few years there have been a lot of photos of Dolly and Carl that have been published, but my dad is not convinced. I really don't give a fuck either way. I think Dolly is a strong, successful woman and those types of women often get the "lesbian mantel" bestowed upon them whether it's true or not (as if it's some kind of insult?), but BUT BUT - I will say this. Dolly's book "My Life and Other Unfinished business"'s Thank You page does not list Carl Dean or mention him at all... it does however Thank Judy and And AND Dolly's made for TV "Coat of many colors" that came out last year is basically a love letter to meeting Judy when she was a child. Here's Dolly and Carl. Here's Dolly and Judy: My dad is also kind of "drinker." So... you know... -

I've known this song (Dolly's version) for a long time and I didn't realize it was from the stage show. I thought it was put in the movie as some Dolly filler similar to I will always love you, but alas it was indeed written by Carol Hall for Whorehouse. Dolly's version plays a lot around here during Christmas so I've also mostly known it in that context.. that it's a Christmas song. Because of this I have always thought the song was about being alone on Christmas - possibly heartbroken or just away from home and family. "I'm barely getting through tomorrow" - tomorrow being Christmas day. Because of this (mis)conception I also took all the lines about dyeing hair and sleeping late to be ways to cope with being by yourself on Christmas. Dolly is a country girl with a BIG FUCKING COUNTRY FAMILY so in my mind I always pictured Dolly, a sweet southern soul without the ones she loves on the biggest family holiday of the year. Hard-mother-fucking-candy Christmas. But then I saw The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas and I realized that it is just about whores not getting to whore-it in the whorehouse anymore. -

There isn't a film version of 9 to 5 the musical, but I'm sure it's going to happen soon. Re: Whitney - Any Whitney fans need to get a free month of Showtime and watch "Whitney: Can I be me." It's a DEVASTATING documentary about her life and of course "I Will Always Love You" is quite featured. If anyone watches it and wants to discuss I AM GAME. -
Ha! Yep! It's my first top spot win!

Interesting! Whorehouse is Dolly at her most gorgeous. The stage show is kind of shitty, but it translated to the screen pretty well. Who doesn't like a good-old-fashioned whore-down? Yee haw!
