Episode 65 — Howard the Duck: LIVE!

As an addendum to my post, at the beginning of the movie when Howard opens his refrigerator, it's filled with a lot of crap, most of which is unidentifiable. There's a jar of what looks like mayonnaise, another squeeze bottle that might be pickles or relish or something (?), a lot of beer, and some tree frogs on a plate. (which Kristen does actually point out in the episode). It remains unclear whether these are real frogs or "gummy" frogs as Kristen hypothesizes. Howard also had pretzel sticks in a bowl when he drinks his beer. They kind of never show Howard eating much of anything throughout the rest of the movie, so i guess we have to assume he's been surviving on pretzel sticks and beer the whole time I guess. He's also feeding some fish in his apartment at the beginning of the movie, which is weird. So ducks are the dominant species on Duck World, but goldfish are pets? OK.

Episode 65 — Howard the Duck: LIVE!

I was watching this movie last night and something weird jumped out at me (from THIS movie? Impossible, I know). It was the scene where Tim Robbins brings the girls in the band pizza and says he's there to watch them undress. Howard looks at the box and asks "What's pizza?" So since the ducks on his home planet evidently don't have pizza, what DO they eat? From our glimpses of Howard's home planet, it looks like they have everything we have on our planet (like movies, TV, music, etc.) So wouldn't they have restaurants too, especially "fast food" type restaurants the equivalent of what we have on Earth? So what would the Duck Planet equivalent be.....bowls of lettuce or something? Do the ducks on Duck Planet eat what normal waterfowl ducks would eat (grass, plants, worms, etc.) or as they have adapted to "Modern Duck" do they now eat any kind of people food? Would Howard eat a burger, for example? Have the ducks on the duck planet mastered agriculture, and know how to harvest other kinds of animals for food, or would they consider that cannibalism? Is a cow considered lower on the food chain than a duck on Duck Planet? And if they DO eat hamburgers, wouldn't they then make the logical next step conclusion and milk the cows for milk, which they could then turn into cheese and create pizza with? The only thing we really have to go on is that Howard won't eat eggs, which makes sense. As they pointed out on the podcast, I guess seeing a bunch of eggs on a plate would be the equivalent of seeing a bunch of fetuses (although not entirely, because chickens and ducks are different creatures, but close enough I guess). This still doesn't explain though whether Howard eats any other kind of meat like a person does, and how that could possibly make sense given that his society evolved from ducks.

Episode 59 — Spice World

Hey, this page: http://sotcaa.org/history/sotcaa2000/sotcaa2000_frame.html?/history/sotcaa2000/editnews/spiceworld.html takes a look at an early rough cut of the movie, and explains about how Gary Glitter had a cameo which was cut shortly before the release of the film, as Paul said. It also reveals that Elton John DID have a line originally which was cut, rendering his appearance in the movie kind of pointless.

Proof that television was a lot more exciting in the '70s:
5. It's funny how lots of the stuff that came up in this episode correlated with stuff that Kroll has recently made fun of on Kroll Show. Like when the topic of the Black Eyed Peas came up and how they were at one time a serious political band, before they became the "horror show" they are today, it made me think of this Kroll Show sketch which is pretty much a direct parody of BEP: http://www.youtube.com/embed/yoebyWkvOIE?feature=player_detailpage Also when Kroll joked that Fred had Sharon in a "sex dungeon", it made me think of the hardware store sketch he did with Janet Varney and Eugene Cordero. Finally Kroll threw in a reference to "Looneys" during the Canadian-accent heavy Fred and Sharon video which reminded me of his hilarious "Wheels, Ontario" sketch. At the end when Jake showed the Billy Joel video Nick finally just broke down and blatantly plugged his show. I guess Jake really tried hard this time to tailor the videos to his guests.

Since you like showing cheesy '80s videos on the show (Huey Lewis, Al Jarreau, etc.), how about this one? (Idea suggested by Baron Vaughn tweeting it last night)
7. http://www.nbc.com/s...network/n10969/ I'm going to assume that Don West was the inspiration for these home shopping sketches that Will Ferrell and Chris Kattan did on SNL. I'd never seen the West clips before, but this was the first thing that popped into my head upon seeing them.
8. Thanks for the shout-out, Jake!
9. I hope this is the clip you're planning to show!
10. This may be the first Fogelnest Files crossover, but on the 2 Live Jews album, in the song "Jokin' Jews" they make fun of L'Trimm's "Cars That Go Boom" ("They like the men...the men who go (phlegmy Jewish coughing noise), (phlegmy Jewish coughing noise)" I had this tape when I was in high school and very much enjoyed it non-ironically.
11. Somebody might want to tell John Ross Bowie about this: http://www.amazon.com/Jekyll-And-Hyde-Together-Again/dp/B0016LFG5G
12. I'm pretty sure it was George HW Bush who said the thing about "we need a world more like the Waltons and less like the Simpsons", not Marilyn Quayle. They even played a clip of it before one Simpsons episode where the Simpsons were watching it on TV. And technically you have shown an SNL clip before, Jake, you showed the clip of Fear playing on the Halloween 1981 episode. Great show!

Not sure if you were serious, but Fred Savage is now directing TV shows like "It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia", "Party Down", and "Happy Endings". He actually appeared as a guest on Comedy Bang!Bang! a little while back talking about it.

Hey Jake, if you want to do a show centered around the theme of weird kid's stuff from the '80s, here are a few good clips: A clip from the "Madballs: Gross Jokes" video: (part of a longer special which can be found here: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.com/embed/G12o6vsPhAw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Trailer for the Garbage Pail Kids movie: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.c...bed/0lXmuXVGidY" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Coneheads animated TV special from 1983: <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.c...bed/imvgc8-nRlM" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Disco scene from "Animalympics" (featuring animals smoking and drinking): <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.c...bed/ycH_AQBbvHg" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> ALF music video- "You're the One Who's Out of this World" <iframe width="420" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.c...bed/Kpp4GPvxzWw" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> Ed Grimley animated series: <iframe width="560" height="315" src="http://www.youtube.c...bed/JGx9Rm3yozU" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I'll see if I can find any more good ones. Nice meeting you at the LA Podfest by the way.

Episode 130 — Tall Napoleon

Now that's some excellent screenwriting by Fagin Platt.

Episode 37 — Guest Vocalist: Ben Garant

Just a guess, but maybe in that list that someone sent in of the top things to enjoy about the show, maybe "Len" was supposed to be "Lee", Howard's brother.
