Episode 37 β The Internet is My ID
Joshie replied to admin's topic in Nocturnal Emotions with Har Mar Superstar
http://photos.oregon...ly_block_m.html The supporters of Clean Water Portland celebrated after defeating the proposal to add fluoride to Portland's drinking water Tuesday night. Healthy Kids, Healthy Portland -- the pro-fluoride campaign -- lost the battle, but celebrated a new coalition at the Curious Comedy Theater. -
By not doing it until some good ideas had been stored up, instead of hammering out another Farts&Procreation whenever possible now that its a "franchise"

...things are getting played out worse than mrs. swan on MADtv at this point

as a gun rights person, because of the externalities. it is not possible to use nuclear arms without affecting an otherwise uninvolved party who did not choose to incur that cost (seismic effects, fallout, radiation, etc.) you can't have a weapon to protect your rights that violates someone else's unavoidably and intrinsically. it creates an imbalance that violates bentham/mill's harm principle.

Episode 55 β The Devil's Advocate: LIVE!
Joshie replied to admin's topic in How Did This Get Made?
you're totally wrong here 1. strauss/mystery didn't invent negging as a technique, it's always existed as teasy flirting, or flirty teasing, they just gave it a codeword for nerds to recognize 2. you're wrong that it's meant to cut down a girl or program her like a robot. it's meant to be a parry to someone giving off a certain sort of reaction so you don't get flustered and learn how to flirt. nowhere does it say negging wins over a girl, just that getting flustered or angry totally destroys any chance you have of continuing to talk, so you need to keep to a rhythm. most dudes can do that, but some poorly socialized dudes that never had it explained have to learn to stay smiling and playful and engaged. it's about keeping the dude going in an anxious situation as much as engaging the lady 3. it's meant to be used on 9's or 10's (extremely attractive women) that have a certain attitude about getting compliments and know they are great so these sorts of things don't get under their skin and it stays playful. it's true that it doesn't work on most women, most women are not 9's or 10's and have insecurities that keep them from even wanting to joke about certain things. no one ever said "this is a catch-all technique go out and use it on everyday nerdy mousy girls to win them over" -
You don't even have to go that far... I had a buddy Sabit from Albania who was straight up blond, no one would say he wasn't white... and even the Grand Dragon would say someone like Abdal Hakim Murad is a white man: There are plenty of white Muslims, maybe not as a proportion of all Muslims, but there's still millions of them Also: bringing up McVeigh was totally dumb, of course we didn't talk about detaining him indefinitely as an enemy combatant, because we didn't do that during the Clinton administration, because it was Bush butt buddies John Yoo and David Addington that wrote the justification for it years later. It it seriously asking too much of the show to be familiar with racism topics from only 15 years ago? That's within all of our lifetimes

I call out stupid standards applied unequally or unjustly to whomever, I don't need someone saying don't associate with people in a certain music scene when that person isn't promoting injustice themselves. If you want to say don't associate with racists that listen to racist metal, and attack the content, that is a fair reciprocal of the standard that has been promoted for so many years: white racists having to face marginalization themselves. When that standard is applied too broadly (to metal listeners not engaged in injustices or promoting racist music) it isn't fair and reciprocal and there's no poetic justice to it, just more broad stupid uneducated unsubtle stereotyping of people because you don't want to do the research, and regardless of what race, origin, creed, etc. choosing to remain ignorant and paint with broad brushes is unacceptable

"Don't be a fan of something because other fans are shitty people" is such an empty 14 year old hipster mentality

What was with all the weird sex stuff this week? Disappointed that this show seems to be dragging in the gutter discussion to try and draw in the lowest common denominator listeners.

Episode 75 β The Dark Side of the Moon
Joshie replied to admin's topic in improv4humans with Matt Besser
Got up to "he has the same cadence as transmissions from the moon," had to pause the thing and put it down the laughing was making me hyperventilate -
Well, it is done for pageantry/evoking old Gods/animals etc. by the guys wrestling today, yea, but when the Aztecs/Mayans did the ceremonial fighting stuff it was part of their religion. I'm saying there's like two levels to the thievery: 1. Aztec/Mayan indigenous symbols/Jaguar Warriors from the Garland Wars -> Mexican settler culture uses the same themes but just for fighting/wrestling shows (wanting to use ferocious native themes/colors, like the Cleveland Indians or Washington Redskins but in a Mexican context) 2. Mexican culture -> Anglo appropriation There are some luchadores that aren't trying to do that, and use the masks in the traditional "mysterious guy" role, but it's problematic stuff like "exΓ³ticos" who are supposed to be in-the-closet gay dudes that put on the mask and wrestle just to be physical with other guys and get beat up by the good guys
-
Dressing up like luchadores is not okay whether you're in Mexican culture or American culture. It's mockery/cultural appropriation from the warrior traditions of the Aztecs/Mayans that weren't being practiced just to entertain people.

The NAACP named itself in 1910, not the Sixties... ever heard of the Niagara Movement or W. E. B. Du Bois or any of the other hints about the formation of the organization that would say it wasn't all decided just 50 years ago? "Colored" was considered polite from the end of the Civil War to around the end of WWII, but by the 1950s-60s "Negro" was preferred (by MLK and that strain of civil rights) or "Black" (by Malcolm X and that strain of civil rights)

Got it, magic water. You're the best, keep up the good work.

You can't put out the sun. It's not firey like as in fire, it's nuclear reactions, and it wouldn't just make a bunch of vapour. It's too hot for steam to even exist, it becomes "supercritical" I think is the physics term, it's too hot to even be a gas above 700 degrees or so (the surface of the sun is between 9000 and 10000 degrees Fahrenheit, and even the colder, redder stars you find in the universe are still between 4000-5000 degrees, so way over 700) : It'd just keep splitting the water into hydrogen and oxygen and fuel helium fusion reactions with the hydrogen it already has meeting all the new hydrogen; the sun would keep getting bigger and more violent and more hot until there was so much weight it all crunched down into a black hole that started sucking up all the water that passed the event horizon

LOL I knew about Burris I thought you were talking about Tim Scott from SC, but since you aren't, here is apparently the white junior senator from South Carolina (according to your logic): Also, since Kerry's seat was vacated given his recent appointment, I decided to look up Massachusetts on a whim, and here is their new white senator (according to you) Mo Cowan: In other words, damn, it hurts having to pwn you so hard, feel free to be quiet and disappear at any time, before you embarrass yourself again.
-
Ahh, good catch. I guess this is our new white senator from Hawaii:

Is Daniel Inouye or Daniel Akaka white for the purposes of this argument?
-
No. No one gets mad about this.
-
Well that was dumb. Racism is not the same thing as simple xenophobia, the fear of the other, whatever you wanna call it. You have to have an element of supremacy, ethnic nationalism, nativism, etc. Racist ideology is only a few hundred years old. There's a huge difference between Greek/Roman style "we fought those barbarians over there and they lost so they're our slaves" and racist chattel slavery where someone is thought to be naturally inferior, created and doomed to be in a position of subservience, etc.

We already elected our first stand-up President: Barack Hussein Obama! His whole administration has been a joke!
