  1. 1. After Scott Walker/OWS union solidarity is totally in and the docks season has risen up. General critical consensus is season: 4-2-3-1-5 2. Can't tell if Paul was serious or not but Germany didn't co-opt the word "Deutschland" it's just that "Dutch" entered the English language way back when Holland was part of the Holy Roman Empire and we called all those people "Dutch" (Hollanders/Germans/Bavarians/Bohemians/Austrians, all the yellow/orange bits on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Empire-Roman-Emperor-Charles-V.jpg ) and the way nation-states and the English language evolved after the Peace of Westphalia Germany became and a separate thing ended up that the only people that remained "Dutch" in the English language were in the Netherlands (north orange bit on http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Empire-Roman-Emperor-Charles-V.jpg)
  2. I'm glad this show can have an honest confrontation, and some attempt to be intellectually honest. Not like that Comedy Bang Bang with Scott Aukerman. Everyone there is so passive-aggressive, and the impressions are terrible. Does anyone actually think its funny? The host just lets the guests intrude and totally take control of the show, and it interrupts the flow, and any chance of anything ever going smoothly. I hope I4H never stoops down to that level.

    Episode 129 — Playing Dirty

I'd love to play in the dirt with Sarah Silverman... you know what I mean... right in the mud... where all the worms are...
  4. The reason you adopt a Spanish Accent when ordering Mexican food is because the names of the things are Spanish My friend from DC at the El Guero Canelo: "Can I have a TEX-a-NO burrito with carney acid-uh and pick-o dee gallow?" Latino person behind the counter: Inquisitive look Me Jumping in with Spanish Accent: "Can I have a TEY-ha-NO burrito with carnay ahsahda and peek-o day guy-yo?" *order goes according to plan, no one is confused* You use the Spanish Accent because its confusing and stupid to say it in a different accent, delays the line and makes the people behind you impatient as you try to translate what the hell you want. People who make an effort to use the right accent when ordering foreign food should be praised for trying to streamline the process, not called racists. This isn't insulting the race of anyone, it's just saying use the right language in the right place, Spanish when ordering Mexican things, French when ordering French things, etc. Just assuming everyone should understand what you mean when you say foreign words without caring about the accent is what actually starts to come closer to racism and not caring about others cultures

Episode 23 — The Lone Ranger

Johnny Depp was adopted by the tribe he took the traditional image of: http://www.hollywood...er-tonto-327658 The Navajo Nation also gave Depp & the production permission to use their sacred land: http://www.moviefana...-navajo-nation/ http://www.people.co...0587023,00.html
  7. I assume they meant pop, like, Lady Gaga, Adele, Rihanna etc.? I like that stuff without liking rap, regardless of the race, they are not the same sort of music. I like at least some pop from all the different races, and not much of the rap from all the different races. They are making a point about its exclusion because some people just want to listen to a pop/R&B station, and not a combo station with lots of rap Yeah, coming out of a country station that's unnecessary and stupid, because they're never gonna play pop or R&B or rap and there's no need to say it. With a pop station though, a lot of them have changed over the years to include more rap and less pop, etc. (It happened here where 93.7 was the pop station and Hot 98 was the all hip-hop station, and then they started playing rap on 93.7 after 10 PM, and then eventually all day.) It makes sense to make a distinction on the type of station (pop/R&B ) where people aren't sure what they'll be getting and don't want a combo station
  8. Is this show supposed to be an absurdist-comedy sort of program, or a real commentary on society? This entire episode is ridiculous. Pop stations without rap exist because some people have aesthetic preferences that don't include hip-hop styles. Someone saying that they like listening to a bunch of different kinds of music but don't like listening to rap doesn't imply anything about racial preferences. I very much enjoy Miles Davis "Kind of Blue" and don't enjoy anything by Eminem, etc. Judging other people for the type of music they like to listen to (obv. excluding Johnny Rebel & racist gimmick music) is best reserved for 14 year olds - get some perspective.
  9. Why is it okay to write/transcibe in AAVE if its academic sociology/some famous creative person like David Simon and not in other cases? These hosts aren't the best at explaining the reasoning behind something & making it make sense
  10. So what is a white person supposed to do if they are verbatim reciting a rap and they don't use the slur and they don't use a euphemism to fill it in? You wanna talk about the wackest thing ever, peppering a song with 1-second gaps where you just stop talking to not say anything is the worst What is the answer for not being racist and also not making the song all stop&go style corny? Drawing attention to yourself for self-censoring a dirty word is also an ancient, played out joke and that's why people started substituting "player" or whatever, to keep things going without having a winking "ain't I a stinker" moment and not interrupting the song If your answer is to make every white person that wants to rap sound like: that answer is mad wack and worse than the "problem" you want to combat
  11. Ha, what? Did you get banned? Sorry mommy wouldn't let you put ten bucks on her credit card again. Keeping out the riff-raff is what makes it the most intelligent, troll-free forum on the web. SOMETHING AWFUL DOT COM BICTHES

    Episode 12 — Gelmania XII

I'd tell you to stay safe on your journey, but telling people to stay safe isn't a "thing" that I do.
  13. Women aren't as funny as men. Everyone was thinking it, everyone came down too hard on Adam for saying it.Good to see a podcast that doesn't worry about tip-toeing around being P.C. and has the courage to talk to the Ace-Man.

Episode 25 — Raspberry Lemon Dew

Discussing Theory of a Deadman - these Canadian bands are totally derivative, like Christian acts, nothing new to be heard Discussing Stone Sour - this could have come out in 1994, sounds exactly like that sort of misanthropic mope has for a decade, I say do something new, guys, at least try Discussing Skrillex/dubstep, the weirdest most innovative music in the last several years - this is weird I don't get it Old People Be Contradicting Themselves in the Span of like 15 Minutes
