Great episode; always good when Paul Scheer stops by any podcast.
His cadence and his energy he brought to the show was AMAZING (going with a Memzouks here). And that Copland story... christ, nearly peed in my pants from laughing.
Â
Now if we can get the whole WDTGM crew together for an episode of Whooch and do a Whooch/HDTGM crossover (like a comic book) I'd be a happy Earwolfer!

I was laughing pretty hard today from Brian and the Gang going over the aftermath of Amon's Lament (BTW, sounds like a great band name). And everyone's Vin Diesel impersonations.... slayed me!
Â
Epic episode.

Earwolf Chat?

I miss the days of having the ancillary chatroom that was part of the message boards. Let's all get silly together!

This was playing in the background as the scene unfolded in my head, in slow motion.
Â
HA! While you had that going on in your head, I had this....

I had tickets for this podcast but I fell ill and had to lay in bed...
Â
Man, Andy Richter brings it with the barrage of F-Bombs and overall craziness. A great panel of guests, Jake. Anything with Huell Howser is brilliant. Only wish you had Dan Gould on for this episode. His impression of Huell is freaking hilarious.

I really wish I had a tape of my public access show when I was in high school.
Â
Loved hearing Eric Andre on the podcast, Jake. I loved the passion of Eric' love for public access shows and the inspiration
Here in LA, we had some good ones too...Collin's Sleazy Friends was always a blast.

Oh man! Tim crushed it with the Talking Heads bit.
BTW, Asahi is a Japanese beer (I shouldn't nitpick but I will this time)...should've ordered a Tsingtao!
Â
Excellent episode as always.

Senior Sark,
Â
Do you still have your earliest D&D items, like old Basic box sets and campaigns, the original Monster's Manual and the like?
Just curious on how far back you roll (literally)...

I want the Pepperjack Hymen them as a ringtone!

Eeeegah! has always been a favorite of mine. Always been more of a Mike fan, but Joel kills it in this episode. And you can't go wrong with Soul Taker.

Jake,
Such a great episode of the Files! While I'm not that knowledgable of Kim Fowley's career, aside from the Runaways and a few 70s bands, I loved that you did a quick and very in depth biography of the man's life. I loved that you brought in Rodney to the mix with a couple of great stories. I now have new music to download and listen to!
Â
Amazing work Jake!

Zouks!
Â
Incredible VPN and Earwolf podcast. I wish this would've been 2 hours long and have Zouks just go off on the Twitter questions.
Â
Amazing episode.

I think it's a misused metaphor for Elephant in the room. this is used to explain a problem that no on else wants to talk about or address. mostly it's used in A-A when people have a drinking problem that everyone see's but does nothing to try and stop it. "The Elephant in the room". The story in this movie is that Leslie Zevo should grow up and take responsibly for his fathers company. but he can't so his brother Leland Zevo is called into action to take his place. I think the reason and this is just a wild guess as to why the Elephant is floating away is it's showing that his sons problem is now floating away. That problem ie the Elephant in the room is now gone and Leslie Zevo is now running the family business. Just like daddy always wanted and so the lesson is learned. so the Elephant is floating away, symbolizing release. This movie is full of symbolism. yet i feel it's a bit misused.
Â
I kind of understand what you're getting at but I'm thinking it more the elephant monument of Leslie's father is back how Zevo Toys used to be. Free from the tryanny of making war toys and having fun and mirth. So the Elephant Monument is jovial... also could be a reference to Dumbo ("Have You Ever Seen an Elephant Fly?").
Â
What makes me laugh is you can see the cable from where the helicopter attached it and began flying.

Their process for choosing the movies was basically:
Â
1. There's a huge box of tapes.
2. Frank takes a ton of movies home. (Post-Frank it was interns that did this. They claimed it was mind numbing and horrible, but Frank loved it.)
3. He watches them and finds one that will work.
4. He brings it to a meeting on Monday with the full writing staff, they screen it and start riffing.
Â
So that happens, and they screen a movie about Appalachian hicks who marry underage girls. It was supposedly so vile, demented, and had such a 'real' vibe about it that it was shelved, never to be riffed.
Â
Trace or Frank mentions the story on one of the bonus features I believe. You can find the title of the movie on the imdb MST3K trivia section, but they don't even like to acknowledge it by name.
Â
Ok. I HAVE to see this film now! I never knew about this....

It is my greatest wish that Paul will announce The Toy as their next movie.
Â
"Guys, the racism in this movie is NEXT LEVEL BONKERS."
Â
Â
I'd be alright with them reviewing this film. An underrated Richard Donner film.
Â
Â
This is why I never understood the appeal of Robin Williams. Most of his jokes and impressions aren't any better than the typical office clown who imagines himself a comedian.
Â
He's just another one of those things I chalk up to Boomers.
Â
Chalk it up to the copious amount of cocaine Robin was railing in the late 70s/early 80s. Watch his HBO special back in 1977, he is coked out of his gourd. Most of his early films, he's snowed. He and Altman were enjoying Malta too much while filming Popeye.

I was thinking this as well, considering Brian was out of the room, not knowing what happened on the podcast.
