EPISODE 126 - The Star Wars Holiday Special
Lando replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Edit: I hadn't gotten to the end of the ep before making my comment about Tim And Eric, but was eager to jump into the discussion so I will add a correction instead. At the start of the robot Harvey Korman skit the announcer says "It offers a unique chance for consumers everywhere a chance to meet an Amorphian being. The motor abilities of Amorphian citizens are frequently impaired by malfunctions which result in a temporary loss of power. This in no way reflects on the safety of our product. Rather it sould serve as a guarantee of our high standard of long wear and durability." -
Are you an Ulver fan, or just a fan of that piece of artwork?

EPISODE 126 - The Star Wars Holiday Special
Lando replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Apparently this was broadcast in Sweden as "Stjärnornas krig och fred" (pronounced something like ste-yair-nor-nas krig och fred) which is a bit of a pun and play on the words with the original. The original was "Stjärnornas krig" literally meaning "The Stars' war" and add an "och fred" and you get "The Stars' War and Peace." -
Harvey Korman in two of the Christmas episodes (Jingle All The Way and SWHS)

Hans. Bubby. I'm your white knight.

Question for you all, has anyone watched any of the prequel fan edit versions? From everything that I have heard the no cheese edit is completely worth it.

I see your point and I agree to some degree, but I feel like there are so many soft rock holiday songs out there that I am happy to have some with more bite. Plus I just am amused at the idea of BR singing "Glory to the newborn king"
-
Is breá liom "If I Should Fall From Grace With God"
-
On the positive note, I love that such a strongly Atheist band does some really good Christmas covers:
-
I think that my least favorite Christmas song is "Simply Having A Wonderful Christmas Time" probably mostly because of the laser sounding keyboards throughout the whole thing. Although, that Bieber/Busta Rhymes drummer boy cover that Paul mentioned a couple of years ago was pretty atrocious.

Would Jar Jar Binks have been better in this?
-
I've seen the Vin Diesel one. That one was about a character whose biggest problem is that he is too good of a guy, everyone wants to be his friend and all women want to have sex with him too much.

I would agree that Encino man is the best, I just said this one is one of the best (read: less terrible).
-
To be fair, this is easily one of Brendan Frasier's best movies. That, however is a low low bar to clear.

This falls into the "tangentially HDTGM related recommendations" category that does not belong in the "bad movies" subforum, but I am not sure where else to put it. Anyway, happened to see the title on the guide and instantly decided to give it a view. They have it on rotation on Showtime, and Showtime on demand so if you subscribe I would definitely suggest checking it out for the following reasons: - Discussion of Nic Cage as Superman - Jon Peters describes himself as a "street fighter" - One of the interviewees has a Zardoz head It's a bit rough around the edges, but it is an interesting look at a movie that got trapped and eaten by the vortex of development hell.

I know we're getting the Steel episode next week, but do you all think it's going to be Monday or Friday?

Lando replied to Shannon's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
If I can, I try to search for the last name of one of the actors if they have a fairly unique one. It has its limits though. Searching "Travolta" or "Lohan" will work really well but "Cage" or "Lee" don't work as well. -
I think right after coming down from watching the 1st Hellraiser I thought I would add all of the hellraiser movies to my Netflix queue. With a lot of free time I have been going through and trying to purge some of my bad movies. I will eventually get to Hellseeker and Bloodline, but right now I am trying to plow through Hell on Earth.

I just watched this (clearly I am on a Christopher Lambert kick with this and Highlander 3) and all I have to say is What.the.fuck?!?! This is perfect HDTGM fodder (more Christopher Lambert!) I got the sense that the filmmakers seemed to think that there was something of a story, but it seemed to have nothing to do with Beowulf outside of just borrowing names. I'm really not sure what is going on with the outer castle seige. Aesthetically this movie is like 90% medieval, 10% futuristic. If Steampunk has a relative that is less Victorian and more medieval, this film is the embodiment of it. Some of the weapons look ridiculously impractical (specifically the giant pizza cutters) This seems like a mish mash of other movies. It's part Predator, part Army of Darkness, part In The Name of the King and part Rhona Mitra's cleavage The best thing about the movie by far is the 90s industrial/electronic soundtrack The final fight scene has some pretty bad CGI, it looks like something from the Lawnmower Man.

I can't believe that Shaq's rap career is JUST being mentioned here, but another Superman nod is in this video

RIP Robert Loggia: http://deadline.com/2015/12/robert-loggia-scarface-big-razors-edge-dies-age-85-1201653378/ Meet me halfway. Across the sky.

YOU'RE A LOOSE CANNON COBRETTI!!!

People act like every movie Nic Cage has ever made is campy comedy gold, but while I think that Cage has made a few fun bad and campy movies, he's also made a few really really good movies (I LOVE Adaptation for example). But I think John Travolta deserves the attention more than Nic Cage.

I think they tried to explain it with the "frozen in a cave for 500 years" thing. It would be like if they did another Lord of the Rings movie and explained it by saying "oops, there were actually 2 rings of Sauron, but the 2nd ring fell behind Sauron's dresser and he forgot all about it for 500 years." It really pretty much just ignores everything about there only needing to be one final Immortal in the 1st.

Also, good news if you subscribe to Encore Steel should be available for you to watch on-demand for free.
