What We Do in the Shadows

Wasn't this movie one of Paul's picks? You know, the movies/tv shows that you should watch because they're so good.
  2. So I just watched this for the first time and it is not at all what I had expected. I knew that it took place in the (then) future of 1996 and that the characters were literally named Harley Davidson, Marlboro Man and Virginia Slim so I had assumed that it was going to be some sort of post-apocalyptic future where people had reinvented themselves with product names. Nope, that's not it at all. It seems like the only reason that they set this in the future was to invent some new drug with a new way of delivery. There is ZERO reason to have this take place in 1996, and there is nothing remotely futuristic about this movie. They could have set it in 1991 and had the drug be heroin or cocaine, but instead it's 1996 with crystal dream that you rub in your eyes to get high. Really, the problem I have with these is that they are mentioned in the movie and talked about as if important plot points, but ultimately have zero payoff and ultimately just seems to be a weird choice. Without these two elements it's just a pretty run of the mill buddy heist-gone-wrong movie

    Now You See Me (2013)

I wonder if this will become the Fast & Furious of magic. Honestly, if they decided to forgo the nonsensical twist endings and each one they tried to just top the absurd magic acts of the previous, I might actually be able to get behind it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KmWCUcdHJgQ Also, what if this one is like Funny Games where one of the characters periodically breaks the 4th wall to implicate the audience in the making of shitty movies.

    Foodfight! (2012)

I think that anything Charlie Sheen related is going to need a bit of a cooling off period first...

    Til There Was You

We all have suggestions that either take a while to catch on or go nowhere. You're no exception so stop taking it personally.

    Ben & Arthur

Yikes, this sounds like it was written by a bizarro Kirk Cameron...
  7. And here I was thinking I was being absurd...
  8. Have you ever seen the original? I can't think of a movie where a remake completely disregards the point of the original more than The Haunting. It would be like a Don Quixote movie where he is literally fighting windmill monsters and is of sound mind.

And just to tie Karate Kid together with HDTGM

Wait, so you're telling me that a white guy wasn't the last samurai?

    EPISODE 122.5 - Minisode 122.5

This is a great example of why I usually "stick it out" far longer than I should. I'm always afraid that my preconceived notions will be wrong, or that I will be missing out on something. Of course I have probably wasted more time watching stuff that I ultimately didn't enjoy than things that I didn't expect to like, but enjoyed.

    EPISODE 122.5 - Minisode 122.5

Believe it or not, the first Rambo movie is nothing at all like the sequels. The parodies you saw pretty much cover those, but the first one is about a small town police force that has let its power go to its head that happens to pick on the wrong man passing through their town. It's actually a pretty good movie.

I hope that he did nothing but apologize every single time Mutt Williams got on screen.

    EPISODE 122.5 - Minisode 122.5

Yeah, I am the oldest of three boys so we watched the shit out of the Rocky, Star Wars, Indiana Jones, etc series and JCVD movies. Honestly, I think we watched more of that stuff than even the Disney movies with songs. I probably didn't see The Little Mermaid until I was at least 14 and I don't know that I have seen The Lion King start to finish in one sitting. The only thing that I can think of is An American Tail and that version of Somewhere Out There still gets me vaklempt. I think also, with musicals there is a bit of a cute wink and nod element to the songs that I am not a fan of.

    EPISODE 122.5 - Minisode 122.5

For me, probably mostly musicals like Grease, Rocky Horror Picture Show, etc. The only non-HDTGM musicals I have seen have been things from Troma or Trey & Matt from South Park and a few random ones like Sweeney Todd (which I didn't care for) and Little Shop of Horrors (which I do enjoy). Honestly I have less of a problem with suspending disbelief on something like there being a bee human soldier hybrid who can smell royalty than I do with everybody stopping what they're doing to perform a choreographed song and dance number. I think I just am not a fan of showtunes (with a few exceptions).

    Observe and Report

The date rape scene in O&R is pretty disturbing, like Todd Solondz disturbing. Eastbound & Down never did anything that dark.
  17. My new 5 would be: Citizen Kane - Jason, you're going to hate this movie. Get this, this big billionaire is sad because he lost his sled!! Can you believe some people actually think this piece of shit is a good movie? </one time poster> For real though (the first three I agree with others): Dreamcatcher - I Dudditz Double Impact - Probably the JCVD movie with the most to discuss that does not have Dennis Rodman or based on a video game Now You See Me - The ultimate fuck you of an ending From Paris With Love - Bald Travolta and Jonathan Rhys Myers walking around Paris with a vase full of cocaine. Chill Factor - Post-Oscar Cuba Gooding Jr. and the poor man's Johnny Depp in a missfire of an action comedy. Honorable mention: Hard Rain and Black Dog
  18. Holy shit! Not to pat myself on the back too much but I'm about to dislocate my arm here.

    Observe and Report

I think it's so dark and the main character is pretty unlikeable that people have a problem with that.

Maybe a certain rapping genie that lives in a boom box could grant you a wish for a holiday episode...

    EPISODE 122.5 - Minisode 122.5

Yeah, he can certainly be funny and he has his own podcast. My concern would be that he would pipe up and talk over the actual comedians far too often.

    EPISODE 122.5 - Minisode 122.5

I wonder if Shaq will be involved in the live episodes. He does seem to have a goofy sense of humor and a good nature, but I think that he tends to think that he is more of a comedian than he actually is and I don't know if he is sensitive about his attempt at being a movie star.

    EPISODE 122.5 - Minisode 122.5

I haven't seen this movie in a while, but it falls into the fun cheesy category and will definitely be one of the more enjoyable HDTGM films to (re)watch. I remembered seeing a video of a band doing a parody on Lifeforce 10 years ago, took me a few googles to dig it up
