Watching this now. Have you ever seen a movie where it feels like a random sequence of events that have no connection other than that they feature the same actors? Well that basically describes Death Warrant. It's like a version of Face/Off that only concerns the prison stuff and somehow makes even less sense.

I feel like if the Wachowskis had collaborated with Tarantino like they had with Tykwer in Cloud Atlas this could have been incredible.

I've never seen Hair, but I will say that I fucking LOVE the 40 Year Old Virgin rendition of that song for some reason. I also haven't seen Tommy, but that would probably be one of the musicals that I wouldn't mind seeing. I think my big problem with musicals is that I usually just don't like the music (I have very weird taste in music, but it doesn't include showtunes) and they're such a big part of the movies that they're in. One of the few exceptions is of course Cannibal: The Musical, but it's just so fun to say "It's a shpadoinkle day" and is as much of a musical parody as an actual musical.

I almost forgot that during the credits they play a Jars of Clay song about the flood of Noah.

This is apparently coming to Netflix on March 1st. I might have to pass on watching this one though, I have a hard time enjoying musicals and can't even watch the first one.

Just watched this. It has been a while since Morgan Freeman has played an outright villain hasn't it? This film is pretty absurd in that fun late 90s way. It feels very Jerry Bruckheimer, but I didn't see his name anywhere on the credits. I laughed pretty heartily at the old man telling Betty White to STFU. This movie is very much in the vein of Reindeer Games and would be a good one for HDTGM

To me saying "Holy cow have you seen this?" and "it's mental!!!" sound like they're expecting most people to have a bad opinion of this film. I wonder when was the last time most people saw Face/Off. 1997 is also about the time that we as a culture started thinking that Limp Bizkit was a good idea...
-
It's not that they suggested it so much as that they suggested it as if it was a generally poorly received movie. A little research would have found that most people do like this film. And I say this as someone who cringed every time they said "cuss" instead of an actual swear word.

Yeah, this is like someone comes into a room and starts saying "I just heard this awful band on the radio, they're called The Beatles. Have you heard this atrocity?"
-
"This movie is dumb!" Said the guy who likes Face/Off!

I know I joked about being a hipster for not liking Wes Anderson before it was cool to do so, but honestly I would think he would be a hipster darling with his quirky sense of humor.

More likely it was the inspiration for the crack smoking scenes in Bad Lieutenant. BTW, love the new avatar.

As someone who does enjoy this film I hope that they get someone in who is a fan of this movie rather than have four people who hated it gang up on it.

All I'm gonna say about the Cloud Atlas makeup stuff is that they probably should have done the whole thing in CGI instead of going for live action. People wouldn't have had such a visceral reaction to characters being reincarnated into different ethnicities (and it would have looked better when they did) That said, you have more of a problem with Kunis than Tatum? He is abysmal outside of comedies, Kunis can at least point to The Black Swan. Also, look at this description: In a bright and colorful future, a young destitute caretaker gets targeted by a ruthless son of a powerful family that live on a planet in need of a new heir, so she travels with a genetically engineered warrior to the planet in order to stop his tyrant reign.

I always say this about Wes Anderson: I think that he is great at writing compelling characters, but I hate his sense of humor. I feel like a lot of times he dresses up non-jokes in a zany delivery to disguise that they're not jokes. I have learned to watch his movies and ignore the comedy element and that has lead to much more enjoyment.

Hey man, I was hating Wes Anderson before it was cool. Now if you'll excuse me I'm going to go wax my mustache and sip a micro brew.

I watched this film last night and I thought it was ok, not terrible but probably is to the anti-death penalty movement what The Day After Tomorrow is to climate science. Prior to the twist it was a so-so tale of a broken man. The part where Bitsey figures out exactly what happened because she didn't move her leg was one of the biggest stretches since just about every conclusion that Naomi Watts makes in The Ring. However, I may have been influenced by the fact that I watched it after Copycat, which features an unnecessarily elaborate serial killer, so the plot of David Gale was relatively simple in comparison.

How has Brendan Fraser made ZERO appearances in HDTGM films yet?
-
I think Wes Anderson is MASSIVELY overrated (and yet I have seen all of his movies except Grand Budapest but probably will get around to it since it's on HBO), but I think this is a bad choice.

I'm just going to say what we're all thinking now: IF U DONT LIEK ZARDOZ THAN U DONT UNDERSTAND SYMBOLSM!!!!

I think I might be in that 25% as well. I admit that I haven't seen it in a while though, but I do like crazy dystopias.

Two episodes in a row of movies I own on DVD.

I remember reading that Gary Larson hadn't seen Ishtar when he made the "Hell's Video Store" comic strip and that when he did see it he enjoyed it and felt that his joke was unwaranted. I don't remember this movie being terrible, mostly just mediocre. It's a much funnier punchline when you know less about it.

This movie looks like it wouldn't be fun to watch at all. There's something about a bad comedy that is worse than bad drama/action/etc.
