  1. When I saw Postal, it felt like the work of a bad message board troll. Nothing funny, nothing credible and obviously attempting to be offensive.

    Deadfall (1993)

I tend to look at Cage as an instrument like the bagpipes. If used by someone who doesn't know what they're doing you get a horrible mess, but if used by someone who knows what they're doing you can get something cool. It all depends on how the director harnesses his "Cage"-ness.

    Tai Chi Zero

Honestly I don't know if this is HDTGM-worthy yet, but the description is pretty amazing: Yang travels to Chen Village to learn a powerful form of Tai Chi. Though villagers are forbidden from teaching outsiders, Yang becomes their best hope for survival when a man arrives with a plan to build a railroad through the village.

    They Live (1988)

I got some prescription polarized glasses that look like the magic glasses in this movie, I keep hoping to expose lizard people or messages of "CONSUME" and "OBEY" in advertisements. No such luck yet.

    High Tension (2003)

I hear ya, you were expecting something else. I will say, I am not arguing that this movie is great, just good and admittedly it has been a long time since I have seen it.

    High Tension (2003)

I don't think that not giving the audience a hint of the twist is necessarily a bad thing in this case. I think that in High Tension, the intent was to give you a feel of what the main character experienced, one of the elements being confusion, and there would be no way to give the viewer confusion and tell them what's going on at the same time. I think that you could say the same about some of David Lynch's works like Mulholland Drive, which simply wouldn't work the same if the viewer hadn't experienced some confusion at some point throughout the movie.

    High Tension (2003)

I watch a lot of terrible movies that I don't need to see. Sadly, this sounds like it rips off Donald Kauffman's idea a lot less than would be entertaining. The idea of a guy being held hostage and working in the police station would be amusing to see put out non-ironically. And for the record, I LOVE Adaptation, I'd probably put it in my top 10 movies ever.

    High Tension (2003)

I have yet to see Thr3e, but I remember the ridiculous premise in Adaptation involving a nonsensical chase scene. Is the chase scene in Thr3e?

    High Tension (2003)

I didn't think it was bad, I think that it was an attempt at showing the view from inside one of the personalities. I think that they should do the one ripped from the bad movie idea in Adaptation: Thr3e

    Birth of a Nation

This would be better for James Lipton's version of HDTGM

    Revolver or Jumper

I really enjoy Revolver. I liked it when I first saw it a couple of years ago, and I liked it again when I watched it last night.
  12. Yeah, I get that it's why they chose him, but it makes for a boring character. I'm sure that Seal Team Six members are leagues more complex than that portrayal of Captain America.

    The Smurfs

They did it, Paul F. Tompkins was the guest: http://www.imdb.com/list/46NeYag8T9s/
  14. The character of Captain America was soooooo 1-dimensional. He was never scared, even when he was a little guy and always motivated to do the right thing. It was so boring to see him get into a tense situation and not see the most remote glint of human emotion show through.

    High Fidelity

Top 10 reasons why High Fidelity is not the kind of movie that would work on HDTGM...

    Legend (1985)

How much of it do you think is just that it's "dated" and how much is 'cause it's not a good movie? Probably 5 years ago I got a special edition of it and was excited for it 'cause I had fond memories of it from childhood, but when i watched it I was greatly disappointed. That said, I enjoy Willow as an adult, but I think that unlike Legend, there is at least some comedy in it (albeit a lot of it is fairly lowbrow).

    Showgirls (1995)

I guess that's just where we differ. I don't take rape lightly at all, but felt like that scene was so cartoonish that it didn't seem real at all. However, I can see only being familiar with it via the TV edit version and not see that coming.
  18. I would hardly call this movie a mistake. I think Herzog knew exactly what he was doing when he chose Cage for this movie and got exactly what he wanted. Seriously, go watch some of Herzog's movies with Klaus Kinski (especially Aguirre and Fitzcarraldo, and then for extra effect watch Klaus Kinski Is My Best Friend to get a feel for how nuts Kinski was)

    Showgirls (1995)

I love this movie. The "Thinly Veiled Kenny G" gang rape scene is one of the best examples of unintentional comedy I have ever seen.
  20. I would say that the only way that they should do this movie would be with Werner Herzog as guest and do it with as much respect and adulation as possible. This man made some amazing films (Aguirre is one of my all time favorites) and since the majority opinion of this movie is positive, it would seem out of place to rip it to shreds and question its existence. If you have seen Herzog films other than this and Grizzly Man you'll recognize that Herzog has a tendency to make films where the main character is or is going nuts. In this sense, this movie is perfectly in line with his other films.

    Vibrations (1996)

When I saw the title of this thread I was thinking of "Vibes" with Cindi Lauper and Jeff Goldblum who play psychics searching for lost treasure in South America:
  22. So is Nic Cage America's answer to Klaus Kinski?
  23. I think that they were showing the making of "A Letter From Death Row" which also features those Sheens and has a lower rating on IMDB. I got a copy of it in the Wal Mart cheapo bin a while ago.
  24. PWSA has some good movies to choose from: Three Musketeers, the Resident Evil series, Death Race.
  25. I like to think of this movie as "A Day in the Life of Nic Cage"
