  1. HOW HAVE I GONE THOUGH LIFE WITHOUT KNOWING ABOUT THIS FILM UNTIL THIS DAY!?!

First off, bravo Search Function for working! Though - of course - this thread was result 5 of 5, so... keep at it, buddy ;)

But yes, this movie! Oh my God, this movie! I found out about this while randomly looking for clips of, "The 7th Voyage of Sinbad" on Youtube (I wanted to see the Ray Harryhausen Skeleton fight). But I would much rather watch this thing instead!

I mean, Lou Ferigno as Sinbad the Sailor? A cast of no-name, random, foreign actors for all other roles (It's just, like, an italian movie that MGM modified for US release, right?). Incredibly bad and obvious dubbed voiceover work all around? Crazy cheesy set pieces and 80's fantasy adventure action? Horrible direction all around? A beginning title scroll over a picture of Edgar Allen Poe? There's an island of Amazons! Characters with names like, "Poochie the Dwarf"? An absolutely baffling musical score? Seriously - that music... listen to it in the scene below...

Heck, the movie - the whole thing - being on Youtube, lemme just show some of it off. This amazingly weird sequence where Lou Ferigno is just flexing to escape his cardboard chains. It's in super slow motion, accompanied by the finest Casio Keyboard music, and lovingly shot just so you can see his muscles... ladies ;)

It's mostly time-stamped, to the beginning of this fight scene:

lol. Power Rangers had grittier, more elaborate fight scenes than this. With better direction.

And hey, for the fellas, they're not left out in the cold. Because the female lead Alina here is her:

This amazing movie is too obscure and needs more attention! I definitely would love to hear HDTGM tackle it!

  2. I sort of feel like this should be held for the last episode of HDTGM. Decades from now, when they finally decide to end it after thousands and thousands of amazing episodes. It'll make a great Bookend for the series; start with Burlesque, end with Showgirls. Just seems right :P

But yeah, a fantastic choice regardless. This movie is crazy.

  3. I'm loving the Stallone love HDTGM has had so far when it comes to action movie icons, but eventually they'll have to look at way more Arnold Schwarzenegger movies too. And while 'Twins' and 'Kindergarten Cop' will almost certainly end up on HDTGM eventually, I want to put out Conan for consideration.

Not the classic, 'Conan the Barbarian" - that movie is great. Weird, but great. No, no - 'Conan the Destroyer'. The 1984 sequel to the quiet, gritty, epic original that basically completely ignores all that and turns the tone on it's head; forcing Conan into a toothless, silly-looking Superman III/He-Man/Neverending Story-type escapade instead.

It has ridiculous set pieces, tons of monsters created by sticking stuntguys in goofy suits, no blood despite many weapons (though if you're a fan of Arnold spinning his sword around for dramatic effect, this is the movie for you!), terrible dialogue (including a scene with an awful sex talk to a "child princess" who's clearly too old to need this kind of talk), the most dramatic window smashing scene in history (suck it, Enter the Dragon), and a terrible cast of characters. It's got Wilt Chamberlain AND Grace Jones in major roles for crissakes! It's weird and disappointing EVEN IF YOU GOT OVER how different in tone this film is from it's predecessor and the future Jason Momoa Conan. Let's take a look, shall we:

P.S. I haven't seen it, but I'm also pretty sure that the Conan prequel, "Kull, the Conquerer" - starring Kevin Sorbo, TV's Hercules - should also be terrible.

  4. Fantastic episode, Cracked guys! A shame it was so short/seemed so short/moved so briskly. I'm sure the next show appreciated sticking to the schedule, but after so many discussions that were more rambling lengthier on the podcast previously, this one really seemed to breeze along! Some Friday the 13th, some Back to the Future, Dark Knight & Iron Man 2 was in there - woosh! - it's over!?!

I also appreciated an episode thrown in that dealt with things like on the site more. You're always smart and interesting, and it always ties into the articles you write in a "this stuff leads to that stuff"-way. But it was nice just this time to deal with movies, y'know? I wouldn't expect the podcast to be able to sustain just talking about, like, least accurate action figures of movie characters (God, Nedry & Malcom from Jurassic Park - and Hank Azaria's character from Godzilla - got some AMAZING action figures!) and most racist old timey comic issues or whatever, unlike the site. But it was nice to just talk about these movies. Fun change of pace from the sometimes heavier stuff with real-life applications/implications

Nashville audience sounded great too! They got a really fun show!

    Loved it!

Wow. Need a warning for that kind of thing!

At any rate, the Mac n' Me episode just might be my favorite, and Gooby is another good one. I just really like it when HDTGM tackles a movie that is focused primarily on a bad puppet. I have never seen this, but it seems to have all the hallmarks of a HDTGM classic...

  6. Terrible CGI rabbits, Children recreating Jacko videos, Chimps on fairground rides, Joe Pesci trying to get the world addicted to drugs with his children henchmen. Come on!

That's stop-motion, my friend. Not Computer Generated Imagery. Stop motion - a.k.a. "claymation". Good ole' fashioned nightmare fuel courtesy of Will Vinton studios (now, Laika. The people who did ParaNorman and Coraline). Back when they were Will Vinton, they also did this scary-ass shit:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nir9TjozWvU

And yeah, Moonwalker is next level bonkers! They've noticed this pattern before, with stuff like Glitter and Spice World - when you make a movie just to highlight a singer, you're getting nonsense. But MJ went above and beyond here. NOTHING makes sense from scene-to-scene. "Magical Realism" doesn't hold this film together IN THE SLIGHTEST. It just hops from nightmare sequence to cool music video to WTF moments... my favorite being the end. Y'know, where Joe Pesci and his shadowy Drug Army soldiers are firing on Michael as he sits on the floor in his white "Smooth Criminal" suit, then he looks up and - voila! - he's a robot! Of course he is. A giant, Japanese-style, Transforming Mecha. He just becomes enormous for some reason. Terrifying. Then he sings/blasts soundwaves out, kills all the bad guys, turns into a spaceship, sucks up the kids and flies away.

    O_____O

    *Brain explodes*

I would LOVE to hear them tackle this. I sort of love this movie. But it is bananas.

Also, I would love a bonus attachment where they talk about Captain EO, the Disney-attraction music video thing directed by George Lucas (that technically connects MJ to the Star Wars universe, thanks to Hooter, a.k.a. 'Max Rebo', being in both EO and Return of the Jedi). The whole thing is on Youtube now, so they could watch it easily. Doug Benson was in Captain EO too - he should be guest for this Michael Jackson episode!

  7. Imagine Tron or The Lawnmower Man meets Space Jam.

Done. I'm done reading. I'm sold! I need to see this myself! And HDTGM definitely needs to tackle a movie that's this. How can 'Sci-fi Basketball' not be a genre that gets an instant pass into the podcast!? lol.

Though to be fair, that description just reminds me that they need to do Space Jam already. JEEZ LOUISE! Lebron James will get Space Jam 2 done before HDTGM tackles Space Jam 1 at this rate...

Anyway, lemme put the trailer here for ya, Jedd:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0m_58fA8NwI

You forgot to mention that those VFX are almost as good-looking as NBA 2K14!

  8. I love that this guy is pissed... yet, he's a listener!? What the heck is wrong with people who do that, lol? :)

"I HATE THOSE NON-WHITES TALKING SHIT ABOUT BEING WHITE"

    *download podcast*

    lol. Ridiculous!

And man, isn't it crazy that FOX is part of the "white entertainment television" group mentioned here? Weren't they started as a more "urban" (executives favorite word for black!) network? I always remembered it like that anyway; they were the network who did "In Livin' Color" as an answer to "SNL", y'know? Makes me real sad that you gotta look so crazy hard to find even an ounce of diversity on Television. Always channels in the, like, 500's and 600's on DirecTV.

  9. lol. I feel like that commentary track wasn't even a guy talking about the movie. They finished the movie and said, "Fuck. We NEED some DVD Extras -- how quickly can we do a Director's Commentary?". Then they had some interns trick some guy into reading some words and sentences, took the audio to ProTools and cut it up and re-arranged it :)

Great ep, Paul! Way to take charge of things, and thanks for bringing us the "HDTGM All-Stars"! Adam and Casey always improve any movie, TV show or podcast they're in, and that hangs true here once more. Guest Dan Levy was wonderful as always. Not nearly as many, "literally"'s, "I loved it"'s or masturbation jokes as with Zooks & June, but the All-Stars did a great job! I applauded them wherever I was (right here, at my PC), lol. Though, of course, wish Z & J the best and glad to hear they're feelin' better and will be back next week! I can only imagine that Zooks was the sick one, and he got sick from having to watch Miley Cyrus in "LOL".

Finally, I gotta point out -- I know, I know, I'll go fuck myself as per tradition for people complaining about the LIVE shows. Sorry for all the guys at Largo, and your editor "July" (that's what I heard), but the audio mix here was inconsistent. A lot of lines were very low volume - the podcast in general was too low; I've been listening to older eps all week, and it's really low by comparison. You can't even hear many of the audience questions, and some lines spoken by y'all comedians are hushed as well. Unfortunately, other lines get blown out. The audio mix was not your best, guys. Made listening to this one a little rough. Usually the Live shows are not recorded- or-mixed this badly. Still, it was listenable, and it's free, so thanks for that. Still, a complaint's a complaint, and I gotta do what Paul says!

Off to go eff myself :D

    EDIT:

    Hey everyone,

I adjusted the volume on this episode so it’s easier on the ears. If you already downloaded the old file through iTunes just delete it and re-download or just stream it on the site. Sorry if this was such a nuisance for anyone but I’d like to think that having access to a free LIVE show would merit certain exceptions of audio not being to the level of an in-studio episode. Especially a live episode that was just recorded a few days ago. Anyway, say what you will about the audio if you’d like but be nice about it. Otherwise, keep the negativity to yourself.

    Thanks,

    July

Damnit! WHY DIDN'T I RE-DOWNLOAD IT FIRST! Anyway, Thanks for the update, July!

  10. Hahaha. Oh man, this was amazing! Always a blast when Samberg shows up to promote Brooklyn 9-9, and Lapkus is always a treat. When I saw on the front page she was here, I thought she'd be doing Traci. I actually forgot she did Todd, but it was perfect for this episode! Also, I now have the Hollywood Facts theme stuck in my head. And I certainly hope that Schizophrenic Superman, a new classic character for sure, shows up again :)

    This was a blast!

  11. Oh also, it occurs to me that Paul Rust should be the guest here, since - while in character as a mad scientist - he spoke about creating little people versions of monsters during the last CBB Halloween special:

    http://www.earwolf.com/episode/the-creeeeeeepy-halloween-special/

He called his things the titular, "Creeeepies". So he either played a bit as an homage to this movie, or never heard of it and came up to it independently, which is even crazier.

  12. Oh man; this is madness.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=J4Z7SE2l1VA

    From IMDB:

"Mad scientist brings Dracula, the Wolfman, the Mummy, and Frankenstein's Monster to life... but there's a problem and they end up three feet tall."

It's sort of like Monster Squad, but with little people. That's all. From the weird stretch of time from the 80's-to-90's where people made movies like Garbage Pail Kids and Leprechaun. I just like that this WAS A MOVIE! Someone pitched, "Let's do monsters with dwarves!", and it got greenlit! You could not do that nowadays. That's bonkers!

  13. Here's the wonderful Louis Theroux meeting this psycho:

And for convenience, here's the time-stamped version that takes you right to the "good stuff", starting roughly at 2:06. Just TRY and watch it without instantly hating this crazy old man once he goes into his "trance". He begins by doing the most obnoxious snorting wheeze you're ever going to hear, then voila! Right into super cheesy 1950's B-Movie nonsense. You can't not hate this guy. What a d-bag!

  14. There's a crazy guy who is infamous for "channeling aliens". He's so full of sh** - he sounds like the lamest special effect from some particularly terrible episode of the Twilight Zone. That's where his concept of space and extraterrestials clearly comes from, and it's weird, dumb, and baffling to hear this "1950's radio play"-nonsense in modern times.

  15. Here's a UFO-wackadoo named Robert Short "channeling an alien". Now, you can find videos of him doing it solo, but I'm putting up a clip from a Louis Theroux special instead to make it tolerable. There are some real crazy idiots out there, boy.

    Have fun viewing!

Here's the raw, non-time-stamped video for anyone interested. That link jumps straight to 2:07 -- you should definitely scrub to there if you wanna see the "good stuff". But here's the whole clip:

  16. Hmmm... this is interesting. I recall it being competently made, but very bland. Except for the odd 2nd act set piece where they check out the abandoned ship and get attacked by metal bugs and pick up that atrocious pre-Jar Jar CGI creature. I bet it's not too cuckoo crazy... but it's almost certainly more watchable than 80% of the other movies they've looked at?

I wonder if this would make a good episode now?
