Episode 1 — From Boy to Under a Blood Red Sky
seanotron replied to JulyDiaz's topic in U Talkin' Talking Heads 2 My Talking Head
Also how has Scott never heard So Far Away? At first I thought he was pulling our collective legs, but it ultimately seemed like he legitimately hadn't heard of it. -

IIRC, it wasn't that they were going to kick him out, but rather that they were going to dissolve the band because they thought rock n' roll wasn't compatible with Christianity. Ultimately, they quit the religious group instead. -

If Coldplay & U2 are McDonalds & Monsanto then you've kind of answered your own question, haven't you? -
I'd like to add Kate Micucci and Ricki Lindhome to this list, as I believe they have yet to make a HDTGM appearance and would be totally awesome. Also Tig Notaro. And Amy Phillips (either as herself or in-character as Liza Minnelli).

Part of what's so amazing about this movie is the explanations for what's happening get nuttier as it goes on. First, we're supposed to believe a nearby comet is somehow causing machines to come to life, but then in the end the explanation is aliens. Also, a Soviet weather satellite somehow destroys the aliens with a laser cannon and nuclear missiles. WAIT WHAT

Speaking of Garry Marshall's Wikipedia page...
-
I don't really think this works. It's very intentionally what it is.
-
That's really the entire reason Fox is even making a FF reboot. They have to make a movie every so many years or they lose the rights to the characters.
-
I'm pretty sure Jessica Alba's blue dead eyes are reason enough for a FF reboot. But I think everyone would be better off if the rights to FF went back to Marvel.
-
I love that PFT's knowledge of Garry Marshall - please call him Garry - is so encyclopedic that he knows that he changed his name from Masciarelli to Marshall.

Frank Miller is a straight-up terrible person.

This one is bland and dumb, but the 2nd one is just one WTF moment after another. Maybe they can do a double-bill.
-
Jeez guys, out of 26 episodes a year they pick maybe 3 total that are out in theaters. It's nice to change things up every once in a while. Relax.

What's interesting is First Blood Part 2 is the most financially successful of the Rambo movies by far.
-
I consider this bit from UHF to be a 100% accurate recreation of First Blood pt 2 Fun fact, James Cameron wrote the first draft of the screenplay, but thespian Stallone didn't like it and rewrote the whole thing.

It also features Jolene 'Worst Vulcan Ever' Blalock.

I know this came out in the 90s but I still have to assume the attempt to make Richard Greico happen was fueled by leftover 80s cocaine.

The marketing for this was so sheepish I figured the studio was just washing its hands of the whole thing.

Yeah, I don't remember being too bothered by the CGI infected in I Am Legend but it has been a while since I've seen it. I just remember being so disappointed that they'd shot a proper ending but test audiences preferred Will Smith blowing himself up (not that I can't see why someone would enjoy watching Will Smith blow himself up).

The Bonfire of the Vanities (1990)
seanotron replied to SlidePocket's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
This is basically where Brian De Palma's career went tits-up. He did have some financial successes like Mission Impossible after this, but he never really got his groove back. -
Yeah I've seen those shots and they are super depressing. By all means, filmmakers should use CGI because it's a great tool. But you have to use it in the right way. I'm not familiar with a similar situation in I Am Legend...did they have some kind of practical effect for the vampires and ditched it for CGI at the last minute?

She also defends Roman Polanski, so at this point I think the unfortunate truth is that Jodie Foster is kind of an asshole.

I remember reading that this story has long been considered 'unfilmable', but that never stopped Hollywood before!

I agree that it's pointless, but there's really nothing that would make one scream 'WHAT IS HAPPENING?!'
