    Domino (2005)

Yeah Domino suffered from horrible studio mismanagement apparently. I recall hearing Scott talk about it and how things got moved around, cut and budgets were slashed till the mashed up and under promoted flick hit the shelves. I think it was on the DVD commentary i heard it all.. its sometimes neat to hear a commentary where the makers discuss the problems and failures instead of endless undeserved back patting people do when they record the track the month before their flop even gets released.

    Thaw

Possibly the most inept movie I have ever seen and it made me so angry the makers are so disjointed from reality they think we could just go with it. I can just hear Jason repeatedly shouting "What are you doing Dum-Dum", Paul's "and we haven't even talked about X yet" and June's infectious laugh of incredulity... constantly throughout the review. Poor Val Kilmer must have worked all of 2 days on this and certainly didn't give acting tips to the other players. The catalog of film making mistakes is almost endless: plot holes, poor acting, terrible dialogue and a 'fuck you' epilogue: There is something of astounding ineptitude every 5 minutes... seriously i am not kidding: 1 Crow-barred in ecology plot-line that makes no sense. 2 A woman dies apparently choking as caring people just stand and watch.. recovery position anyone? 3 When infection is suspected people knowingly touch bloody infected wounds with bare hands. 4 When one is covered in welts no one mentions it or cares enough to help her in any way 5 They amputate an arm through the bone instead of the elbow, without sedatives (which they have), with a cleaver when they have scalpels and without trying anything first.. such as surgery or burning. 6 They believe a room is bug-proof for no apparent reason and do not block vents or doorjambs. 7 A full body check is done without lifting her arms, checking her hair or uncovering her ankles. 8 When the psychotic guy is disarmed they let him keep the gun he is threatening them with. 9 The psycho is infected but is oddly afraid of who around him is infected. 10 A window to an infested room is shot out and they gather to look inside. 11 Calling for help is the last thing they think of when naratively it should have been the first. 12 They also apparently have internet but don't think about it. 13 Val cuts his arm to get infected when the bugs show no need for such an invite. 14 Despite the danger fire is not thought of by anyone till the end. And that's just for starters.. there are dozens of gaffs and jarring flaws at every turn. There is not one human being in the entire movie.. everything is stilted, flat and lacking anything like a human response. There was a good movie here believe it or not but at no step does anyone do a practical or believable action. Even if this wasn't released theatrically and lacks Nic Cage, which might make it ineligible for the rules of this cast, i highly recommend for people who love to sit and rip on a movie.. there is endless material here for and evening with friends. And if that doesn't sell it.. how about a line of dialog: "Isn't there that frog?" randomly stated at the sight of bugs on a mammoth.
  3. Aww what a cheat... he wasn't even there.. you talked to him after watching the 'film' but before the podcast.. and you totally wussed out.. Cult Classic my arse... Fairs fair let the man sell his schock but trade for even the slightest acceptance he was in a god awful paycheck movie that's even less relevant today than when it was ill conceived. +10 points for having to watch the flick.. -5 for wussing and misleading. I still love you guys all the same

    The Spirit (2008)

It really was a disaster.. and you are so right.. there is not a single thing you can put you finger on to cure it.. just about everything fails as a whole and its a bemusing mess that just doesn't work. When i first saw it i was utterly confused as to why i didn't enjoy it.. its not like the script is desperately awful or one performance was terrible.. it was like a filter was used to make everything bland and meh!

    Into the Mouth of Madness

I wanted to love it... Lovecraft.. Carpenter.. whats not to like... and then we get a slow, muddled horror with a flat performance from Sam Neil and monsters who don't quiet do the grandeur of Lovecraft's creation justice.

    Salt

It's on of those Wimmer films where a simple plot element that in most films would be a minor point or dealt with quickly collapses under the weight of it being made the linchpin.. and its just strains credibility as the movie goes on.. The big 'is she' / 'isn't she' thing gets stupid.. and when the star is who she is it really doesn't feel like that's much of a mystery... and it comes down more to what is her motivation.. and why the hell do we care! I also understand that the theatrical versions ending was pretty bland and the some kills toned down.. but the dvd restored the more violent deaths and attempted to make a better back-story and mythology for her character... totally failed.. i'd say. It's really worth checking out the critical analysis that was done over on "IN THE CUT: The Dark Knight Pt I and Pt II Phillip Noyce's Salt" do a google search and watch the vids. It will give you a new appreciation of the film craft in Salt despite its many short comings.

Stop! Or My Mom Will Shoot (1992)

The dream team.. STALLONE/GETTY .. how about a 2000's update with Betty White and Vin Diesel. I'd pay not to see that!

    Any Uwe Boll Film

The truth of it is that Mr Boll gets Eu & German funding for his films to help with the profile of German film making... which gives him budgets he blows on conning Mr Statham, Slater, etc into being a big name in his bad film and obtains a video game tie in to get the kids interested and makes back enough not to lose investors money.. the cultural cash doesn't require repaying so as long as the investors get some cash back and the fun of being attached to movie making he is quids in.. and if you disagree with his version of 'art' he will punch you... true story.. read his wiki page.. its rather amusing.

How did your THEME SONG get made?!

I sadly second this... i load up a page.. press play.. immediately press pause.. wait to buffer and skip ahead 30secs just to spare myself some middle of the road American punk/pop doing a poor Big Bang Theoryesque intro dribble... its a bad enough fad on TV.. but podcasts... no need.. i want to turn on, tune in and cheese out Otherwise.. i love your delightfully ramshacked appreciation of suspect films.. great works guys and gals.

    Miss March

You want terrible! You want some (well at least one) soon to be famous faces! You want a terrible, terrible idea poorly executed with plot-holes (one big hole in particular )! Miss March is for you guys.... the reason i recommend this is there is a single scene in this flick that had me crying with laughter, much to my shame i rewound and watched it again.. just to take in what i'd seen, and while it fails to save the day it sticks in my mind to this day.

    The Human Centipede

They really should... there's not a whole lot that really goes on in the first one though.. there's 3 sorta focal scenes.. but the rest.. nothing really happens. I was expecting nothing from this film apart from the frisson of the operation, the creature doing things and finally dying.. and there was scant amount of material of those scene.. i feel for the poor actors who accepted the roles.. i'm sure for years to come they will be doing small sci-fi/horror roles aplenty but really.. is not the kind of start that gets you an Oscar in your 40's (although i wished the world did work that way)

    Episode 17 — Skyline

You have to loath this film.. and the worst part is that it would have taken little to make it bearable or even good. Its one of those experiences where you wonder why didn't they screen this for human beings and take on board the faults.. ok expense and sometimes being so close to your projects blinkers you.. but you'd have to wonder why no-one pointed out the unlikable characters (esp the actors having to be them) the stupid plot points ( oddly empty building, world wide bed sheet shortage, why being at sea makes you safer, not trying to arm yourselves or scout out your escape routes, highly tactical nukes, etc) The creatures and ships looked okay enough.. not wholly original (loved how the tanker beasts with their palm pong approach to human collection.. that was fun to see) I wanted so much to like this film.. but to be fair.. when you cast David Zayas expect the stilted, wooden performance of the year.. god bless the man he's been in some of my favorite shows... and at first i thought that was his accent or his style of performance.. but no.. he really does deliver every line as if its an outtake. Angel Batista is a fun character in the books and on screen he has nothing to do but still his desk is more dynamic in his scenes.
  13. Pathology was a massively under rated movie IMHO, especially as it came between the 2 Crank films, you'd have thought it would have gotten more attention... i got my copy from a closing down movie store and i out of dozens of movies i picked up this is by far my favorite and one i can and have actually re-watched. You can't fault Michael Weston for subtle creepiness and Milo Ventimiglia was a revelation.. that guys needs more work.. and not just as freaky digital perverts Brian .. even Alyssa Milano turned in a good performance. The film oddly reminds me of The Watcher for style and story, doing a great deal with limited sets and story with a solid plot, script and performances.
  14. Superb show.. so insightful into movie making and the studio system. I have to say without this show i probably wouldn't have come round to seeing this movie for a long time and with hind sight i really don't think i would have enjoyed it as much as i did.. and that's purely due to knowing more about the directors story and approach to making a comicbook adaption. I used this interview much in the way a one-sheet would inform the uninitiated about the movie and the character they are about to see. I would like to say a huge thank you to Lexi for cutting down the Freerunners so brutally.. you called that scene perfectly for both understanding your audience and breaking with the tiresome established norms.

    Resident Evil 4: Afterlife

Exactly.. they should do this taking notes and pointing out the 7-8 movies that are ripped off in yet another W.S. Anderson so called movie. When i had the misfortune to see this with friends we noted so many scenes stolen from better movies, like Escape from New York, etc, and done badly as well.

    Howard the Duck

None at all.. but people still love it!.. my ex-wife for example... it should have been my first warning sign i guess.

    The Machine Girl

So much fun... the firehose like blood spray was brilliantly over the top.. but suffered from that same issue with so many of these Asian action flicks of an explosive start that slow down to a snails pace between the action later on.

    Triangle

Now.. this was a surprisingly well thoughtful movie with a fairly solid continuity but with some bad flaws and wonderfully soap-opera level acting... i think these guys would have fun reviewing it all the same/

    S. Darko

i think the why is painfully obvious.. but remains a valid question. |f it had been made without the Darko connection it would have been a passably bland flick..

    Ladyhawke

Another classic of shlocky minimum effort 80's fantasy.. right up there with Krull and Beastmaster.

    They Live (1988)

Yeah i can see them reviewing They Live.. really its low budget with some terribly flat acting from non-actors but its also a classic John Carpenter flick with possibly the 2nd best cinematic fist fight ever.
  22. A total classic explosion of awful.. has to be done.

    Torque (2004)

Totally awesome.. maybe they need to focus on the bit part movies of Eddie Steeples
