EPISODE 111 — Hercules in New York: LIVE!

That certainly works! It's no Stellar Skateboard though...

    The House of The Dead

Is there not a thread for this already? I certainly remember talking about it somewhere, but maybe it was in a different movie's thread...

EPISODE 111 — Hercules in New York: LIVE!

I don't know why I didn't think of it until now, but Schwarzenegger's perfect, over-privileged, fish-out-of-water character in "Twins" is basically a newer and improved take on his Hercules. BAM. What do I win?!?

EPISODE 111 — Hercules in New York: LIVE!

As suggested in the episode, this could very well be Pretzie's dead wife...

EPISODE 111 — Hercules in New York: LIVE!

I knew that the "Pinocchio" franchise had peaked early, but holy shit, that has to be some sort of record, like the earliest recorded instance of "Fuck it, let's send them to space" happening to a series, which has plagued mostly horror franchises up to this point, though I'm sure that "Fast and the Furious" will get there eventually.

EPISODE 111 — Hercules in New York: LIVE!

A search of his IMDB page showed that Arnold Stang has worked on a number of Bill Cosby's projects over the years, including cameos as "Man in Waiting Room" on an episode of "The Cosby Show", "Mr. Cohen, Elderly Patient" in "Ghost Dad", and "Homeless Guy" on "The Cosby Mysteries". I think it's NO mystery why Cosby liked having him around, as it's pretty clear that having a hot piece of ass like Pretzie around helps to attract the ladies...that Cosby would later be accused of raping.

EPISODE 111 — Hercules in New York: LIVE!

I don't know, but I can tell you who the worst Zeus was... ...which is ironic, considering that he co-starred with probably the greatest and most accurate Zeus ever to appear on film...

EPISODE 111 — Hercules in New York: LIVE!

That reminded me of this... If only someone could put Arnold and Nelson in that...

    Lou can do...somewhat.

    The Marine (2006)

And it's directed by none other than Die Hard 2's Renny Harlin!

EPISODE 111 — Hercules in New York: LIVE!

This reminds me, has anyone read "The Ultimates", which is about an alternate universe version of The Avengers? Everyone's kind of tweaked a bit from their normal Marvel Universe selves, so when Thor turns up claiming to be a God from Asgard, everyone just kind of thinks that he's this hippie weirdo, because there is no evidence to support his claim at all, and they play with it for the entire first run of the series, not really showing any of his backstory, and it works, because he doesn't look or act like the Thor we've Come to know. Ultimately (heh!), he proves himself, but it was a good twist on the origin, as people who never saw gods would probably think that a guy trying to convince you he's one is full of shit.

    Ghost Ship (2002)

I like how it apparently just moved like a laser through the room even though it was like this thick cable. There was enough force to cut everyone in half, but not a single person was just knocked over or flattened against the wall or anything.

EPISODE 111 — Hercules in New York: LIVE!

    It's like Netflix...for your closet!

EPISODE 111 — Hercules in New York: LIVE!

This is exactly why I can't agree that the acting is Wiseau-level bad, because I think it's clear here that Arnold is trying to play ball and not just going off and doing his own crazy thing. Even though he's pretty bad at it at this point, he's just so damn likable as this big goof that just sort of got thrown into a movie, whereas "The Room" was nothing but The Tommy Wiseau Show from start to finish, with him just coming off as a ridiculous piece of shit when he's trying to convince us that he's the coolest and most sympathetic guy in the world.

The signs of a bad movie list

    And of course "Daredevil"!

    Dreamcatcher (2003)

There is already a very, very long thread for this.

EPISODE 111 — Hercules in New York: LIVE!

To answer next week's mini ep question, no, Nic Cage would NOT have made this movie better!

EPISODE 111 — Hercules in New York: LIVE!

I'd be curious to know if this is a longtime listener who finally made a profile to comment on his displeasure with the live episode. I think we're required to have at least X number of those every time there's a live ep.

EPISODE 111 — Hercules in New York: LIVE!

And he changed his mind like 90 seconds later, didn't he? He banishes Herc, we get the plane scene, maybe something else, and then Zues going "Perhaps I was wrong". BAM, we're into Act Two.

EPISODE 111 — Hercules in New York: LIVE!

I dont think any of the audience's Arnold impersonations managed to capture the wrong inflections or annunciations that really made the "I clearly don't understand the words that are coming out of my mouth" performance that he gave.

EPISODE 111 — Hercules in New York: LIVE!

I may not be to this part of the show yet, so maybe it gets brought up, but remember that this movie is pre-Godfather. From what I understand, that movie seriously inflated the egos of these kinds of guys to where they started putting forward that kind of more glamorous image that hadn't really been there before.

EPISODE 111 — Hercules in New York: LIVE!

Arnold's acting combined with his inability to speak clear English gives any scene where he has to string more than 6 words together a serious "video of a doped-up kid on the way home from the dentist" vibe.

    Josie and The Pussycats

That reminds me, I have a cover of it from Juliana Hatfield and maybe Tonya Donnely (?) that appeared on the "Saturday Morning's Greatest Hits" album that featured all sorts of cartoon theme songs by big alternative and hard rock from the time. Helmet doing "Gigantor", Sublime's "Hong Kong Fooey", and "Spider-Man" by The Ramones were some of the highlights.

    Josie and The Pussycats

I'm afraid that we'll have to wait and see if the movie is at least moderately successful so that we can get the sequel "Jem and the Holograms: Retaliation", where we might finally see versions of the characters closer to what we remember from the cartoons. It's too bad though that most of the returning characters, including Jem, will be murdered in the first twenty minutes.
