    Last Action Hero (1993)

That reminds me, I once heard a cover of "Bring the Noise" by Staind with Fred Durst, and it is absolute fucking garbage. I don't know what possessed them to even try that when the Public Enemy (who did the original) and Anthrax version was a masterpiece.

Episode 109 - FACE OFF: LIVE!

It certainly goes up to 11. BAM.

Episode 109 - FACE OFF: LIVE!

Oh, and if this is really a love story between Travolta and Cage, that's a pretty fucked-up meet-cute at the beginning there.

Episode 109 - FACE OFF: LIVE!

It may have been mentioned here already, but they don't really play with the fact that even though they're technically still in their own bodies, they're physically different or differently proportioned, right? I mean, Travolta's noticeably a little bigger, a little broader, so you don't think that Troy would be as agile or as fast as he's used to being. This reminds me of a "Freaky Friday"-like issue of "Ultimate Spider-Man" where Jean Grey, upset at Wolverine for some reason or another, had him mentally switch bodies with the person he disliked the most, which happened to be Spidey. Hilarity ensues when Spidey repeatedly almost stabs himself to death while having the agility of a small tank, while Wolverine has a hard time NOT being invincible...and macking on MJ.

    Furry Vengeance

I remember seeing the poster when we got it at my theater and thinking "Bear rape. I don't care what the title says, but the real name of this film is Bear Rape".

    Last Action Hero (1993)

For me, it's Helmet/House of Pain's "Just Another Victim", but "Another Body Murdered" is up there, and "Come and Die" is pretty excellent as well. I think that soundtrack has gotten BETTER over the years as I've come to appreciate more of the songs that WEREN'T done by artists that I was into when I was 15.

Why did they change the theme song?

    "End of Days", you say?

The signs of a bad movie list

I'd like to amend the 90 minutes thing to "Under 90 minutes, with unnecessarily long credits".

The signs of a bad movie list

I believe the "old people swearing because it's wacky" thing falls under the "Rapping Granny Syndrome". Basically, any "See, it's funny, because they're OLD!" gag falls under the banner.

Unless that brother's name is Frank Stallone!

Episode 109 - FACE OFF: LIVE!

I enjoyed how after the literally ZILLIONS of dollars worth of property damage, it still just ultimately comes down to two guys fighting over a spear gun and somebody unimpressively catching it in the gut, which is pretty standard for a John Woo film. I think an entire country in Europe got destroyed in "Mission Impossible 2" (it's okay though, it wasn't an important one), just for it to end in a knife fight between Tom Cruise and Guy That Didn't Get to Be Wolverine. Also, "The Killer" and "Hard Boiled" end in Mexican standoffs.

Episode 109 - FACE OFF: LIVE!

I think the movie would have been pushing three hours by the time that was all said and done.
  13. PlanBFromOuterSpace

Would this movie be better if it took place on a plane?

Well, part of "Sharknado 2" DID take place on a plane.

Episode 109 - FACE OFF: LIVE!

The discussion at the end reminded me of talk way back when about a possible American remake of Woo's "The Killer" that could have possibly involved Denzel Washington and Richard Gere, which I could have been totally down for. Not sure they would have worked for "Face/Off" though, with the obvious concern being the difference in height. Yup, that's what would have made it too far-fetched...

    Timecop (1994)

To be fair, that's the most memorable scene in a LOT of JCVD's movies.

Episode 109 - FACE OFF: LIVE!

Oh yeah, and even though they never share a scene in THIS movie, Travolta and Thomas Jane went on to co-star in "The Punisher"!

Episode 109 - FACE OFF: LIVE!

Not sure if this will be brought up, but Nicholas Cage and Thomas Jane, who appears as a fellow prisoner, both have Marvel superheroes and PATRICIA ARQUETTE in their futures! That Patricia Arquette is a TOTAL cape chaser...

    Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare

I've been spared from having to work opening night for the last couple of Fast and/or Furious films, but from what I understand, there's a lot of people peeling out and getting loud in their mom's vans, with an occasional fight. Those movies are like Twilight for douchebags whenever they open.

    Last Action Hero (1993)

Yeah, it had Michael Kamen, who'd done a lot of really good rock scores, accompanied by Buckethead.

    Rock 'n' Roll Nightmare

I'm just going to leave this little treasure RIGHT here... Be sure to check out the follow-ups, "Harry Potter Parking Lot" and "Neil Diamond Parking Lot".

    Ready to Rumble (2000)

Yeah, I'd been meaning to pick up the updated edition, because as bad as some things were that close to when WCW went under, so much more stuff came out later on that kind of puts a different, stranger, or more tragic spin on things.

    Ready to Rumble (2000)

That's another one of those infinite number of things surrounding the movie that's way more interesting than the movie itself, which was a plot device in months worth of wrestling storylines. For more on the absurdity of WCW at the time, I highly Highly HIGHLY suggest reading "The Death of WCW" by RD Reynolds and Bryan Alvarez, which I've probably mentioned elsewhere in some other wrestling movie thread.

    Last Action Hero (1993)

And it had TWO Alice in Chains songs on it! It was an amazing soundtrack full of songs by bands I was into at the time that still hold up. I was allllllll about Alice In Chains, Megadeth, the new John Bush version of Anthrax, Fishbone, Cypress Hill, and then the AC/DC track was solid, and the inclusion of the live version of Aerosmith's "Dream On" from the MTV anniversary show was much appreciated. The only soundtrack from this time that I MIGHT still listen to more is "Judgment Night".

    Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles III

I don't think I had even seen this one until last summer when a podcast I listen to was doing a retrospective series on the films, and it's not like the others looked like they cost much, but this one was astonishing in its cheapness. The Jim Henson people had left by this point and nowhere was it more obvious than with Splinter, who was always popping up in windows or behind counters or something, never seen below the waist and moving like a member of the Rock-A-Fire Explosion. It looked like an episode of ALF.

    Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2

I feel like I've seen this without actually seeing this.
