    Superman Returns (2006)

They seem to drop it really quick though, if I remember correctly. I mean, yeah, he saves a plane full of people (mostly just reporters and stuff) from disintegrating, but it's not like he saved the world or anything, at least not yet, and it didn't seem like a task worthy enough of everyone just pulling a 180 and never bringing it up again. It's like "Fuck you, we don't need you...until we do, at which point we'll disregard all the 'not needing you' stuff that we said when you weren't around".

    Superman Returns (2006)

Lex's plan in "Returns" is almost exactly the same as it was in the first film, which was essentially a crazy real estate scheme. Even though "Returns" is supposed to be a sequel, it's really more of a retread than anything else. OH, I just remembered something. It seemed like in his absence the people really turned on Superman, and it showed that Lois won some awards for her articles about it, but when he reappears, it's like it NEVER happened. It would have been pretty interesting to see Supes return to a world that didn't necessarily miss him where he would have had to win some trust back, but instead it's business as usual, and the whole world looks like a bunch of hypocrites.

    Superman Returns (2006)

More than anything else, I think this movie just wasn't the kind of movie it needed to be, especially after how long it took to get another "Superman" movie on the screen. I mean, it was disappointing for sure, but it seemed even worse when you think of it in terms of what it could have been, and I don't exactly mean the Burton/Cage version, because it passed through EVERY set of hands in Hollywood. How hard would it have been to get a writer that knows the character to whip up a fun, action-packed Superman movie?

    Episode 60 — Street Fighter

I think I mentioned it before in a post on a Street Fighter thread on the board somewhere, but when I bought my Blu-Ray player a couple years back, I had every intention of keeping my new movie collection pure, only the best of the best. That ended about four days later when I found this movie for like 8 bucks...

    The Ninth Gate (1999)

I remember seeing that pop up on VHS boxes at weird times when I'd be at the video store, like it wouldn't be on the boxes of the movies that SHOULD be bragging. You wouldn't see the box office numbers on "Terminator 2", but "1492: Conquest of Paradise" would proudly proclaim "Over 7 million dollars made at the box office!".

    Krull (1983)

The "Krull" DVD I have is from 2000 (remember when subtitles were considered "special features"?), and I'm surprised that even THEN the packaging didn't heavily feature Liam Neeson. Nowadays, he'd be the only one on the cover. Speaking of which, where's the "Krull" 30th Anniversary Blu-Ray? If we don't get one, a serious injustice has been perpetrated upon us all!

    Krull (1983)

THIS was the go-to movie in the early days of video stores when the two copies of "Star Wars" had already been rented out. It was also on HBO all the time, and I know a friend of mine had the Atari game. I love the film, and I think a remake would be siiiiiiick. A few years back, I tried to show "Krull" to my roommate, who watches every stupid little bullshit no-budget thing made by gamers for gamers, and she didn't get the appeal. Whatever, dude... Recently, I found the Marvel Comics movie adaptation of "the Fantasy Film Masterpiece" at my comic shop for a buck. In addition to the story, it also features articles that look at the making of the sets, the merchandising blitz that surrounded "Krull-Mania" (which I'm nearly 100% sure wasn't a real thing), and a piece about real people that got married while re-enacting the wedding scene from the film...before the film was even released. http://io9.com/5615160/the-krull-wedding--the-most-confounding-scifi-movie-promotion-of-all-time

    Alex Cross (2012)

I'm astonished by JUST how badly this film performed, because it seems like even Tyler Perry's fanbase completely rejected it, and these are the same people that have turned out for umpteen different Madea movies. I've seen the guy on talk shows and stuff and he seems like an alright dude, and this seems like the kind of thing you'd check out if you wanted to see the guy in something that didn't involve cross-dressing, not to mention it's based on a series of books that had already spun off into a couple of moderately popular films, but yeah, this thing was DOA, and while I've heard it's dumber than shit, it at least didn't appear to be any better or worse than all of the other movies it looked like.

    The Forgotten

I'd totally forgotten about this movie (how fitting), which makes me wonder how many other movies I would have completely blanked on if they hadn't taken up permanent residence in the $5 dump bin at Wal-Mart?

    Teaching Mrs. Tingle (1999)

And here I thought that "We Need to Talk About Kevin" was just one of the many films that exploited the archery craze of 2011-12, when in fact it was really just a thinly-veiled "Teaching Mrs. Tingle" knockoff. LIES!

    Teaching Mrs. Tingle (1999)

It's funny that THIS is the only legacy this movie has, that it used to be called something different before something horrible happened. What's the movie about? Eh, who fuckin' knows. Jeez, remember when Kevin WIlliamson was all the rage?

    Episode 59 — Spice World

Oh yeah, I just looked on Box Office Mojo, and Hugh Laurie is the ONLY "actor" they listed as appearing in the film.

    Episode 59 — Spice World

I remember listening to the radio on the way to work on January 26, 1998 or so, and the DJs were talking about the victims of the Titanic, how they deserved our respect and sympathy and prayers, how if it wasn't for their terrible sacrifice and the stories they inspired, the Spice GIrls would have had the number one movie in America. Never forget...
  15. Inspired by the discussion in Episode 36, I felt it was my duty to begin a count of all of the film appearances of the classic tune "Two Princes" by the Spin Doctors. Rather than just list them off though, I think we should talk about them one by one, and explain it's significance (OK, that might be stretching it...) to the film it pops up in. When we're done, we can publish our findings, forever to be used in film theory classes until the end of time. I'll start. Most recently, I heard it pop up in the film "Love and Other Drugs", a film that I wouldn't have bothered with except that it was the first film that I ever got to work on. If you've seen it, I can be seen about 6 times for a total of 1.4 seconds in the training montage. Yes, it was my first film AND my first montage. Check and check! Anyway, this film is a period piece, taking place in the 90's and GOD DAMN if they don't let you know it right away by cranking up that magical tune when the title card hits. Jake Gyllenhaal, soon to be a Viagra Salesman, begins the film working at an electronics store, where "Two Princes" is blasting over the speakers. Having been a teenager in 1993, I can tell you that the Spin Doctors were DONE by about 1994. You sure as hell weren't popping in "Pocket Full of Kryptonite" to move high-end stereo equipment in 1996. It would be like that scene in "Boogie Nights" where Buck is going through his country phase. This film, as well as many others, suffers from poor soundtrack decisions that were probably made by people that didn't listen to popular music of the time period DURING that time period. There's another Gyllenhaal flick that pops to mind, "Jarhead", which features a scene where Marines, during Christmas of 1990, are singing along to Naughty By Nature's "O.P.P.", which wasn't released for close to another year. That was actually written into the film, which makes it even more of an obvious mistake. There's also a Nirvana song off of "Nevermind", but it's not a part of the story itself. Anyway, yeah, "Love and Other Drugs". My choice to kick off the "Two Princes" thread. 1) Love and Other Drugs

"Two Princes" Watch: Chapter 1 (Inspired by the "On The Line" episode)

YES! I just remembered that. They get on him about not being metal, and he's like, dude, if he listened metal ALL the time he'd go fucking crazy.

Any of the Roland Emmerich 21 century trilogy

I've always found "Universal Soldier" to be the great, unappreciated Emmerich flick.

    Nineties Video Game Movies

There aren't a lot of things I SPECIFICALLY remember, but there was a pretty great/not-great-at-all exchange after Sub-Zero, who was apparently killed in the last film, beats a guy. It goes something like this. "But you can't be Sub-Zero, he's dead." "I'm not, I'm Sub-Zero's brother." If I remember correctly, it's left at that, and we never...see him...again. The movie is FULL of half-realized ideas or plots like that, which is a shame, because I was really looking forward to the further adventures of Jeff-Zero.

It was 1989, I think he could have gotten away with it still. Maybe.

    Paparazzi (2004)

Didn't Mel Gibson's hairdresser direct this? Holy shit guys, I just looked at his IMDB page, and he was the stylist on "Road House" AND "Judge Dredd". This guy's a fucking hero, and he's got major HDTGM cred.

    Pro Wrestlers vs. Zombies (2014)

That's easy to explain. I mean, both of those films came out the same year, so voters were divided when it came to the nomination process. I don't think he could have WON that year, because Dustin Hoffman KILLED in "Rain Man", but maybe he could have had the slot that that went to Max Von Sydow. Good field that year. DAMN good field.

    Pro Wrestlers vs. Zombies (2014)

Well, sure, but that's politics for ya. I mean, after all the times Duggan's been passed over, they're going to nominate him for ANYTHING he does next.

    Speed Zone

I think I saw this 20-odd years ago too. Wasn't it basically "Cannonball Run 3"? I'm sure it had John Candy and/or Eugene Levy in it...

    Aquamarine!

I remember when this was out at my theater, and I assure you that it appealed to an older...creepier...van-driving audience...

    Pro Wrestlers vs. Zombies (2014)

I think this filmed around me in the Pittsburgh area and West Virginia, but I didn't take part in it. At the same time, "Foxcatcher", starring Steve Carell as John du Pont, and Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo as wrestling brothers, directed by Bennett Miller of "Moneyball", was shooting, which I DID get to work on. One of these films will be nominated for Oscars....
