Since Unspooled is the only regularly active forum outside of CBB, I wanted to let you know that the Earwolf forums are not long for this world. I explained in detail over here but the short version is that failing software and the time required to keep it sputtering along are no longer tenable. I know many of you are already members of the Facebook group, and there might be a section for Unspooled on Paul's (or the official HDTGM) Discord server as an alternative. Regardless, thanks for sticking around and sharing your movie opinions!

New Catchphrase Suggestions are moving to Twitter
DanEngler posted a topic in New Catchphrase Suggestions
tl;dr: This forum will be shutting down on August 1. If you want to submit new Catchphrase Suggestions, sign up for a Twitter account and tweet them to @CBBCatchphrases. Why is this happening? The forums are on their last legs. Participation here has fallen off a cliff in favor of Reddit, Twitter, the HDTGM Discord, etc. The service the forum uses to send email is being phased out, which means members are already having trouble signing up/logging in and these problems will only get worse. Without constant vigilance, the forums are flooded with spam. 50% of new user registrations—more than 200 within the past two months—are from spambots, and I have been forced to hand-approve new accounts and disable private messages to keep them in check. I haven't been able to get any traction with Earwolf on the tech side. Their priorities are understandably elsewhere. After eight years of volunteering, I'm the only admin who still visits the forums and, soon, I won't have time. Why don't you just open up registrations and let the chips fall where they may? Scott still relies on user submissions for Catchphrases and Plugs Themes every week. In fact, 2021 has probably been the best year ever for Plugs Themes! It would be irresponsible for me to retire without providing a path forward. Why Twitter? Twitter handles all of the registrations, emails, and (in theory) spam protection themselves. Scott can easily check the list of incoming catchphrases and bookmark the ones he likes. And the @CBBCatchphrases account can mute anyone who becomes a nuisance. I don't have a Twitter account. You also didn't have an Earwolf Forums account before signing up! I'm Scott/an Earwolf producer and I want access to the @CBBCatchphrases account. DM me on Twitter and I'll transfer control to you. Thanks for your understanding! -

New Catchphrase Suggestions are moving to Twitter
DanEngler replied to DanEngler's topic in New Catchphrase Suggestions
Like I said, the software and services underpinning this thing have been failing in ways that can only be addressed by Earwolf's tech staff and, given the tiny number of active users, it doesn't appear to be a priority. Moving to Twitter probably represents the lowest amount of friction for Scott (since he's already there) and anyone who cares to participate. -
2021 Closing Plug Bag (Plug! The Logical Song)

I know as much as you guys about the future of the forums, and I honestly don't think any higher-ups at Earwolf Midroll Scripps SiriusXM even know they exist. The exodus of shows from the network this year—Pistol Shrimps Radio, Superego, In Voorhees We Trust, Big Grande's Teachers Lounge, Off Book, Yo Is This Racist?, Culture Kings (probably), Hollywood Handbook—doesn't inspire a lot of confidence. For what it's worth, I created /r/MusicalMondays and /r/Unspooled on Reddit a while back. They're both currently private/vacant, but the glass is ready to be broken in case of emergency. (If any of you are Reddit users and want to be appointed moderators, I'd happily cede control.)

DanEngler posted a topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
With 3,000+ recommendations in this forum, it can be difficult to find conversations with your fellow movie lovers/haters. Before you post, here are some guidelines to make it easier for everyone. Search for existing threads before starting a new one. Search for the longest word in the movie title. Common short words are sometimes ignored by the search engine, so pick the longest/most unique word from the movie's title. Try searching via Google. For movies with multiple short words in the title, it's faster to use Google to search the forums. To find the movie The 6th Day, for example, try a custom Google query like: site:forum.earwolf.com "The 6th Day" If you're starting a new thread, make its title the movie name and release year only. Including extra words in the title will produce more unrelated search results, making it harder for others to find threads in the future. Keep it simple and use the format: Space Jam (1996) One movie per thread. The gang only reviews one movie per episode, so limit recommendations to one movie per thread. Feel free to create multiple threads! Don't link to unauthorized streaming copies of the movie. Paul usually points out where you can watch the next movie when it's announced on the minisode. Embedding trailers, clips, or film critique is acceptable (and encouraged!) but don't link to full movies. -
Episode 369 - Will Hines, Our Election Friend
DanEngler replied to DaltonMaltz's topic in Hollywood Handbook
Dalton, you don't have to keep posting threads to this graveyard. July gave up years ago. Even Shannon doesn't come here anymore. It'll be our secret. -
468: Rainbow Wave 2020, Voter Suppression is a Women’s Issue
DanEngler replied to DaltonMaltz's topic in Attitudes!
Yes. I've notified the good people at Earwolf about the issue. Thanks for bringing it to my attention! -
Are you a Stitcher Premium subscriber? All episodes older than six months are moved behind the dreaded paywall and require a subscription. If I sign into my Stitcher Premium account and search for "comedy bang bang 198" (or 199 or 200) I get the desired episode.

You may be thinking of Great Pretender, which Jason talks about in the last 20 minutes of the episode. It's on Netflix.

I pinned it to the top of the HDTGM forum. @Cameron H.'s initial post has the full list. -
I edited your post so the Soundcloud player appears, but you'll need to make the track downloadable.

What happened to 222 in Portland part of tour?
DanEngler replied to unbirthdaygirl's topic in How Did This Get Made?
They have a large number of live shows in reserve. This week's episode is Swordfish, which was recorded live in Denver on August 25, 2018. -
Ignore Joe Manganiello giving off serious Tick-Tock Man vibes here and tell me if that's the actual Paul Scheer at 00:34?

Griffin Newman (of The Tick and the great movie podcast Blank Check) started something of a movement among actors who have played cops and, in doing so, helped normalized cop-as-hero narratives. It's heartening to see them contribute to the cause. 100%, which is why I also love Blade Runner 2049. To me, the slow sequences that Amy called out are gorgeous and meditative.

You can find them if you search Twitter and/or Instagram for the hashtag #lilsleepinguy. Be aware, however, that there are some things that you can never unsee.

I think it's because you have the Grammarly browser extension installed, which has a habit of doing bad things to forum formatting. I fixed your post from earlier.
