  1. I usually dread the audience participation segment of live shows (thanks to dudes asking dumb questions and trying to one-up the professional comedians) but the people of Austin killed it.*

My working theory is that all of Largo's seating is technically considered a balcony due to some arcane building code, and the entire LA audience is therefore balcony people. Gross.

  2. I want to say that it's happened a lot in other movies, but I'm struggling to come up with an older example at the moment. As far as that trope is concerned though, it made me think that if you were filming ANYTHING with your family in it back then, they were pretty much fucked, because the only time you ever see anyone watching these videos back is in cases JUST like this, where a wife and/or kid has been killed.

I just watched all of Twin Peaks in preparation for the new series, and there's

during the second season (1990) where Ben Horne goes on a bender and watches old home movies of his family breaking ground on the Great Northern Hotel. Then again, nothing died except his future business prospects.

  4. Hey Dan, quick question: I just noticed that the greeting message on the Explanation Hope Line welcomes you to the 'Corrections and Omissions Hotline' where you can leave corrections and omissions about the most recent movie. Isn't this a bit of cross-contamination and the reason why so many good forum posts get scooped by people who call the EHL? No big deal of course, but I thought the EHL was an entity separate from the C+Os.

I don't have any visibility into how the hotline is set up, but I assume this is just a product of how its purpose has evolved over time. I recommend tweeting about it to @paulscheer, as he's active and obviously receptive to listener feedback.

  5. Any ideas for a game segment that we can play on the mini? It would have to be something easy, is Trivia too simple?

How about a take on Family Feud, where you ask June questions ahead of time and people call in to guess how she answered? If the listeners (as a group) can't name all of her top answers, June wins the week. For example, you'd ask "What are the scariest movie monsters?" and she would answer "Robots of any kind", "very small men", etc.

You could frontload as many questions as June is willing to tolerate in one sitting and then roll them out one-per-minisode. Listeners probably wouldn't be able to guess every answer, but the actual joy is hearing June's mind work.

Don't thank me, thank Earwolf producer Dana. She has to wade through the Explanation Hope Line every week and, if the best calls she's found have included jerk-off stories, imagine the nightmare fodder that doesn't make the cut.

This is why Paul needs you nerds to call in. That dead air isn't going to fill itself!

  7. This one's next to impossible to search for, but this would be a very questionable forum if there wasn't already a thread for this movie.

This movie is the example I used for finding impossible-to-search-for threads in the instructions pinned at the top of the Bad Movie Recommendations forum. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

  8. Way to go Dan Engler on picking the location! And you got a round of applause!! Well deserved my friend

Aw, thanks! My thinking was that Paul & co. might jump at the chance to do silly accents, but the fact that so many of them also had a background in musical comedy was just plain luck. Even without my meddling, every second of this episode was a true delight!

  9. On the side of Skank's car, does he have a count of the races he's won? He beat 4 cars, 3 motorcycles, and then...

He beat 2 people in wheelchairs? And one dog? Does he get to keep the wheelchairs if he wins? What does he get when he beats a dog?

    DRAbcLH.png

Worse than that, it's the number of cars/motorcycles/wheelchairs/dogs he's destroyed with his car, a reference to the markings on fighter planes:

  10. The day after listening to this, I ran across this news story. I don't think it's the same guy from Kristian's story, but I do think it's an interesting coincidence: MMA guy, neck tattoos, serious anger issues. Or maybe that's just a common type.

  11. Can somebody help me feel less insane.... I feel as though I definitely heard Six Pack last summer, and thought it was on last summers album, but I assume that can't be the case. Did they previously play Six Pack on the show, or maybe Howard played it at one of his live shows and that's confusing me?

I know I have previously heard that song and its confusing me

They played it at the end of last week's episode.

  12. With 3,000+ recommendations in this forum, it can be difficult to find conversations with your fellow movie lovers/haters. Before you post, here are some guidelines to make it easier for everyone.

Search for existing threads before starting a new one.

    • Search for the longest word in the movie title. Common short words are sometimes ignored by the search engine, so pick the longest/most unique word from the movie's title.
    • Try searching via Google. For movies with multiple short words in the title, it's faster to use Google to search the forums. To find the movie The 6th Day, for example, try a custom Google query like:

      site:forum.earwolf.com "The 6th Day"

If you're starting a new thread, make its title the movie name and release year only.

Including extra words in the title will produce more unrelated search results, making it harder for others to find threads in the future. Keep it simple and use the format: Space Jam (1996)

    One movie per thread.

The gang only reviews one movie per episode, so limit recommendations to one movie per thread. Feel free to create multiple threads!

Don't link to unauthorized streaming copies of the movie.

Paul usually points out where you can watch the next movie when it's announced on the minisode. Embedding trailers, clips, or film critique is acceptable (and encouraged!) but don't link to full movies.

  13. looking at the official rules it looks like that is true, so yes i guess you have to ban tim. also saying stuff off topic from the show is off limits so ban everyone who has done that this week please

On a show like Hollywood Handbook that is totally rando, no topic is off-topic!

P.S. I enabled support for emoji. But only one emoji, and it's :tim:
