Cracked did a big segment of their "important pop culture news of the week" article asking if this movie was just an elaborate practical joke featuring Oscar winners and nominees so that a serious thriller/crime drama can have a main character named Harry Hole. With Val Kilmer being in it, I'm figuring that this will be like an episode of Law and Order where either he or J.K. Simmons is the killer since they're the most recognizable names outside of Fassbender.

Also I have to admit that I think Crowe NAILED it in that scene.

She was getting assistance from a pilot in air traffic control if I remember right. Then at the end they have a meet cute after she crash lands the plane.

The syncing is a huge part of the games, mainly for the villainous corporation to find out where the various holy relics and special artifacts that they are looking for are located. The original game was first thought to be just set during the Crusades, but the twist showing that it was a simulation from the future established that they were not just making a standard stealth fighting game. I would have liked to see them Hardcore Henry the parkour, but then they most likely would have tried to super impose Fassbender's face onto the stunt doubles.

Yeah they are being really general in defining "serial killer" even though the bar to be deemed one is very low. Manson only killed one person but led others to murder a few more and I don't think Koresh killed anyone. Yeah that bummed me out because in the game the Animus is more like the hookup in the Matrix. There were many things wrong with that movie, and even then it's still one of the better game adaptations.

I remember Sid saying that he had been listening in on conversations between staff and eavesdropping on their when everyone thought he was offline, so it would be safe to assume that he was doing that to basement cocoon pervo and knew about the regeneration process.

That's why I was going off of recorded killers or those with a known MO like Jack the Ripper or the Axe Man of New Orleans. While Jack is considered one of the first recorded serial killers along with HH Holmes, serial killer really didn't become a term until the 1900s, and even then the base number to be considered a serial killer is three victims over two or more instances, so it is a very general term now. And now by looking at the stats for it, because it's such a low threshold to be considered one, the US alone has had almost 3000 since the FBI started tracking it. So by that logic then it's easy to get to 666, but then it becomes a matter of cutting the excess fat of those who barely are considered to include those who were either dictators like Hitler or mass murderers like Ghengis Khan and Vlad the Impaler.

Hitler still has distant relatives who have since changed their names for obvious reasons, so there could be a way to Assassin's Creed his profile through their DNA, same for Mussolini. I figure though that there is some remnants of the weapons used to beat Mussolini that could be harvested, and there was still trace DNA in the ashes of Hitler that were found in a Russian warehouse decades after the war. My main question concerns how they widened their definition of serial killer in order to make Sid. At one point in the movie its revealed there are 666 personalities in Sid, but over the course of human history there haven't been that many documented serial killers, at least that have been caught. Add in dictators so it seems like the programmer was including those with serial killer personality markers as well as cult leaders like Manson who only has a kill or two to his name. We have to assume they did what you talked about and looked at MOs of famous killers like Jack the Ripper and Zodiac in order to include those personalities, but that still gets us no where near that trope of a number.

Nope, land locked I think solely for that reason.

CA prisons and court documents are done in a variety of languages including Korean and French as for whatever reason there is a sizable population in CDCR. Even though the CA superior court system only accepts legal paperwork in English, the forms are in four to five others depending on how commonly said forms are used, so the person filling out the form can do so in their native tongue. From their the form is then usually sent to a translator for putting it into English in order to be formally submitted to the court. The verbiage on walls/doors/floors in a prison are just in English, but is painted in red along with heavy lines to constitute out of bound areas or white/yellow lines for where inmates need to stand at a given moment.

To be fair, X-Force is good, without Liefeld's shittiness. Everything since Remender's run in '14 has been fantastic.

Only during riots which are infrequent at my facility.
-
The baseball size pieces of crack and the fact he drills a hole into his head for inspiration makes this a must do film.
-
Not so much at my facility where there are no gangs due to the classification system of the facility as a Sensitive Needs Facility.
-
Was not expecting it to come off as a horror film, very interesting move for the X-Men universe.

I loved The Quick & the Dead for the hammy performances by all involved and that it was the inspiration for a good portion of Red Dead Revolver on the PS2. I would love if they covered that movie because Crowe's performance in it is the polar opposite of this one in how restrained he is.

Thank you, I thought I was the only one to notice this. This plays into part of my correction as it wasn't a wrestling event but a UFC card, which the original owners of the promotion allowed to be shown in the movie as a way to broaden their brand name. It makes sense but unfortunately they had no real control over how they were represented in the film. They had Ken Shamrock in a cameo, but the makers of the movie made the event seem like total carnage with a multi-man brawl with no referee, people fighting in the stands, and them cheering at a violent death. This led to many lawmakers, namely John McCain, to call for the outright ban of MMA in many states, most notably New York which only lifted its ban a year ago. It ultimately led to lower ticket sales and buyrates, leading to the eventual sale to Dana White and the Fertitta brothers, who helped completely overhaul the sport's image. So in essence, Virtuosity was pivotal in the evolution of MMA as the sport that we know it as. Secondly, the total number of personalities that made up Sid bounced around from 150 to over 200 to 666, depending on which person was speaking and which trailer a person saw, the same as the Hawk/Hawks mix-up in Over the Top. The opening training scene wasn't meant to be preparing officers for hunting serial killers specifically, but rather help them develop the skills they would need as a detective, such as clue finding and processing potential suspects. With Sid being made up of hundreds of personalities and MOs, officers would have numerous exercises that they could run through to prepare for the actual job. Third, as part of my usual prison correction, I will say that no way in hell would they allow Denzel to have a metal prosthetic inside a prison, especially one that could be modified to disarm a bomb. In my facility, even staff are not allowed metal implements like canes or those scooter walkers without a multiple doctors notes and reasons for the accommodation, and even then the worker would usually get a deferred duty where they are working somewhere that isn't filled with inmates. The only metallic equipment given out are wheelchairs and some walkers, though walkers are getting limited as a guy modified the legs of his and stabbed a dude. A bionic arm would never be allowed solely for how many ways it could be used to harm someone or themselves, I mean just recently an inmate at my facility was found to have been cutting himself using discarded sunflower seed shells, so something that is hard enough metal to stop a giant fan blade that contains cords and wires that could be used to hack a computer or strangle someone is a huge no-no.

I believe so, which now opens them up to movies like Ricochet, Heart Condition, and Bone Collector.

Well shit, now the librarian side of me is starting a list of nominees and winners of the HDTGM catalog.

Denzel in his first full action movie after doing Philadelphia and Crimson Tide, Russel Crowe in one of his first American films and the first time they would act opposite each other. Denzel is a former cop in prison for killing a reporter while Crowe is a computer generated killer used in police simulations, yes he's a computer program. Crowe breaks out of the program using a brainwashed accomplice and technology that creates nanobyte replicas. This movie is NUTS from Denzel having a robot arm to Crowe having to eat glass in order to heal from wounds, this movie is perfect for HDTGM, especially for their love of robot arms. This movie is also the first feature film that Kaley Cuoco did.

That was totally legit, it's why Evel Kenievel moved so slowly near the end of his life, he was basically a walking stained glass window by that point.

FINALLY! Nearly five years since I put this up in the recommendation forum but it is so worth it to have this enjoyable trainwreck covered by the show. Also, this movie is what almost killed MMA as a sport in the US due to the five minute scene featuring real life UFC fighters.

Especially after Costner's last big world building film, Waterworld, was over two hours which then seemed overlong, I can't believe a studio said "maybe if it was longer the film would be better." To be fair though, Costner never seems to want to do a movie if it doesn't run over two hours long. As for Will Patton, I have to assume that his character was the inspiration for the sub-villian Paul "De Pleur" Harmon in Far Cry 4 who lost his job due to downsizing and then inspired by Dr. Phil, went into business for himself as a mercenary, eventually becoming a General under a dictator. http://youtu.be/aEJjpoPIjWA?t=2m45s
