    Executive Decision (1996)

I have to honestly think Russell did this movie solely so he could get free flying lessons. Plus it may be one of the most ingenious marketing campaigns in movie history outside of the original Scream. You take one of the biggest actions stars at the time in Seagal and team him with a solid actor/action star in Russell, market the whole film as being a Seagal vehicle, and then kill him within the first 30 minutes in a great bait and switch.

    The Postman (1997)

This movie was infuriating. From the idea that by bringing in years old mail that men literally throw their wives at Costner to him becoming a revolutionary leader with an army of other mailmen behind him makes this a great film for the show if not for the 3hr run time. Also there is a character named Ford Lincoln Mercury, that kinda product placement is only allowable in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy.

Episode 172 - The Last Dragon: LIVE!

What's more racist, that line or the fact that Leroy dress and acts in a worse stereotype than Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffany's, and that the same character has an interaction with a group of Asian men who talk to him in a stereotypical black accent, with one then using that voice to wear Leroy's hat and make a stereotypical Asian accent? Also, Richie, who was at the oldest 14 when this was filmed, is maybe the most unlikable sibling since the brother in Bratz. I was just hoping for Leroy to hit him with the Glow. Omission: The potential remake with Chris Brown and Rhianna has an unfortunate connection to the movie in that the actor who played Leroay, Taimak, was arrested for domestic abuse in 2010, but the charges were dropped. Question: We've seen how 90s video games, namely fighting games, have been inspired by action and cult movies or actors, JCVD being the big inspiration for Johnny Cage in Mortal Kombat and to some extent Guile in Street Fighter. So is Leroy's appearance and attire, namely his hat inspiration for the Mortal Kombat character Kung Lao?

    Cell (2016)

Damn, well she wasn't the only one he shanked, so maybe go for someone else similar to his victims. A coworked and I have been talking about the influx of King adaptations this year and surprisingly they have been good, though it seems Dark Tower was more for fans than the general public. With Gerald's Game and 1922 coming out this month on Netflix and Castle Rock coming out on Hulu soon and Mr. Mercedes on right now, I'll be interested to see what gets picked up next. Also, if you haven't started watching Mr. Mercedes, catch up on it because it's fucking fantastic, and Brendan Gleeson being in it just makes it that much better.

    Cell (2016)

Maybe you need to stab a blind kid for them to get the reference. Also, if you haven't read it yet there's a book called the Stephen King Film FAQ that gives a behind the scenes rundown of all the King adaptations up to a few years ago. This doesn't include the Dollar Baby student films based on his work, though they are mentioned, but you really get to see how much Dino De Laurentiis screwed up these adaptations by basically buying the rights before even some of the books were past the first draft.

Yeah if I remember right they either didn't catch it because they were rushing to meet the release date or by the time they did the game was already shipped but was getting great reviews nonetheless. It was after that where the character went from being a C cup to a full on DD that was featured in every bit of marketing. I am honestly amazed though that the series never went full on "DOA Beach Volleyball" where the characters had bustlines that made anime characters blush and would bounce around even when the characters were standing still.

    Cell (2016)

I think Bronson thought he needed to actually be on coke to play the role of a coke-headish businessman. Night Flier would be another good one for the show if only to talk about how the makers of the movie I assume just gave each other the biggest high fives for the scene where the vampire pisses blood into a urinal, but the main character and the audience only see the stream as we're seeing it happen in a mirror.

The first one was unintentionally eye candy as it was a coding error on the part of the programmers that caused the chest to be a bit bigger by a few pixels, but the gameplay was also really solid and bolstered the game. Yet once she was marked a sex symbol, they shifted focus towards that for the next couple games. When the publisher tried to steer back into games that focused on good gameplay, they were mediocre at best, up until this most recent couple which completely overhauled the character and gameplay.

Yeah the last two Croft games have been very well received by critics and players, mainly because they became more survival games in an open environment rather than the linear shooter/platform that they were. I kinda understand why they are pulling almost completely from the game as that really hasn't been done in a game adaptation since the first Mortal Kombat, so it seems the studio is seeing if a direct adaptation will fare better than an original story set in an established universe. I do like the choice of Vikander as Croft as Angelina Jolie just seemed to be picked as A-list eye candy for the first two films. On the TV side of things, I cannot wait to see Punisher, though I don't know why Netflix is being secretive with the release date, which will most likely be around Veteran's Day in order to allow viewers to not have to pick between it and Stranger Things.

    Cell (2016)

Yeah I saw the interview today where he said this was the top of his films that deserves a second look from his fans, and I'm a huge King fan, but I can't bring myself to watch this again unless it's for the show. I stand by the first two acts being pretty good, especially the opening breakdown of society, but man does that final third really kill the momentum and plot.

That shot may be more homoerotic than the YMCA scene of Can't Stop the Music.

Episode 171 - Miami Connection: LIVE!

Question: Don't know if this has been asked yet, but am I the only one who thought for the first half of the movie the band was named Dragon San? With how bad the audio was at parts mixed with the bad line reads from the actors, I legit thought that was the name of that group.

    Mother! (2017)

I read the wikipedia on this and was just flabbergasted by what I read. Then reading on Yahoo about the F score, they were explaining that the main reason this was a wide release was because the studio basically knew it would have terrible word of mouth and that they needed to use the star power the film had and a marketing strategy that made the movie appear to be all out horror film to try and recoup some of the proclaimed 30 million budget, though the writer suggested the film probably cost much, much more as Lawrence basically is getting paid 15 million a picture and the other big names are making 3-10. Also doesn't help that a lot of the marketing for this basically gives away the final scenes of the movie, which is something that still baffles me.

    Bad Girls (1994)

Wasn't this done in the time when Barrymore was trying to shed her kid actor image and be a "bad girl" in public? I remember her flashing Letterman on TV but there were also a string of movies where she was either doing a bunch of nude scenes or "erotic" parts? Apparently there is an uncut extended edition of this on film, and I can only imagine how god awful that is, I assume just saying "Bad Girl's director's cut" is machine-speak for telling your TV to go fuck itself.

    Hostage (2005)

It's amazing to see how Foster has evolved as an actor, so much I believe that he was robbed of the supporting actor nomination for Hell or High Water in favor of Jeff "every role now is Yosemite Sam" Bridges, and he was easily the best part of this film outside of the little bit of Kim Coates that we got as the guy holding Willis' family hostage.

    Episode 170 - Bratz

That sounds like a horrble modern remake of See No Evil, Hear No Evil. Also, don't know if it was explained or not, but why the fuck was there a full, in costume mariachi band in the main character's house?

    Masterminds (1997)

This movie I kept getting mixed up with Toy Soldiers as both concern schools that are taken hostage, but then I would at times get Toy Soldiers mixed up with Small Soldiers as the latter concerns action figures that are soldiers coming to life. I'm still wondering how they were able to name drop Scream 2 as they were two different studios. Also this movie has yet to be released on anything other than VHS, which is amazing considering that such shitty films like Robocop 3 and Snitch are getting Blu Ray and 4K releases.

    Hostage (2005)

I remember watching this and thinking that Kevin Pollak took his role solely because he spends 3/4 of it unconscious. The beginning was also bonkers as you have a guy who has his family at gunpoint for when we see at least hours, and Willis could not appear more bored as he nonchalantly is combing his hair and beard. You could literally hear his apathy on the radio so it's no wonder the guy kills his family. I also think that this was the role where Ben Foster learned how much scene chewing was too much leading to better performances in films like 3:10 to Yuma and Hell or High Water.

    For Richer or Poorer (1997)

I love that the lead singer clapped back at someone on Twitter who joked that they were only famous because of Shrek, by saying that the song first got popular by being on the Mystery Men soundtrack, as if that's a logical gotcha retort.

This is why I always preferred Arnold over Sly as Arnold has always been able to step back and realize he's kind of a dopey actor and that he can just have fun with what he does unlike Stallone who still takes himself way too seriously. This looks really fun and with the other people involved should be pretty funny.

    Episode 170 - Bratz

Okay now that I've finally listened to the whole episode I feel that I need to add some things that pissed me off mainly due to my career and family life. First, with having family members who were either born deaf or totally lost it later in life, the deaf athlete would not be able to control the volume of his voice like he was. The line about how he can read lips was basically their cop out of "shit he doesn't know sign language and wearing an ear piece won't fit in with our chic high school setting, so let's just put in a line about lip reading and these dumb kids will love it." I did appreciate the use of music vibrations in regards to deaf culture as many do find enjoyment from the vibration, usually faster or harder tempos. Yet the thing that irritated me the most was Jon Voight's attempt to run his school like a prison, complete with guards, high fences, and cameras, yet where he's getting his information from is a Complete Idiot's Guide to Running a Prison book. As a prison librarian for over three years now, I can say if that was a real book whoever made it should be shot because that is such a dangerous way to try and run a prison, because no two prison's are the same. There are so many variables like population, surrounding environment, foundation of the land that the facility is built on, etc., that there's no way to say "do A to get a B result." And to prove how ineffective he is, he's basically letting one of the students i.e. inmates, in the form of his daughter, run roughshod over the facility. Then by grouping students into incredible niche clique's it further runs the risk of a bigger issue down the road with fights or riots, or in the schools case a massive food fight. The only time you would see such grouping in a prison is if it was an incredibly volatile yard where race or sex issues were at a boiling point where the warden would not allow any kind of intermingling because it would just lead to massive violence. Most facilities with open yards and housing will mix inmates together so as to alleviate issues, while the die-hards of the various gangs would either be in administrative segregation or room with other members spread over other yards to lessen the chance of a riot happening. Now while races in prison will generally flock together on a yard, by the facility not playing into it by housing them together in the same way, they aren't adding to the problem. Yet in this movie and school, Voight let's this happen and sees nothing wrong with it. No two prison's or schools have the same type of population, some are gen pop where all criminals from all walks of life are made to intermingle, there are prisons that are Special Need Yards (SNY), like where I work, where the yard or in my case, the whole prison, is made up of inmates who would not survive on a gen pop yard for a variety of reasons (chomo, ex-gang member, ex-cop, priest, trans, celebrity). So again that book and his use of it just infuriated me. I will also say that Adam de la Pena might have one of the weirdest writing trajectories in Hollywood as he started as a writer on The Man Show, and wrote on Crank Yankers and Kimmel Live, but also created the show I'm With Busey, where he traveled around with his childhood hero Gary Busey. He then created the 8-bit show Code Monkeys for G4 before writing Bratz and is now the head writer for Chelsea. I think the only weirder career path in Hollywood that I can remember is Jon Peter's run from being a hairdresser to running Sony Pictures.

I gladly forgot about Crossroads but I believe you are right. As for the back story of the dolls and this movie, I think Robot Chicken did a much better job in their remake.
