    Episode 169.5 - Minisode 169.5

Three minutes in and I already hate everyone in this film. Also why the fuck is there a mariachi band just in the girl who calls everyone chica's kitchen. Also, apparently they just decided to offend EVERYONE in this film by making everyone a blazing stereotype and a freshman girl literally just did a full wardrobe change in the middle of a school quad, with her friends covering her, but there is literally a wide open gap between two friends to where anyone could see her stripping down. And why the fuck is Jon Voight wearing a fake nose? Also according to my Amazon this is and hour and forty-two minutes long, but I swear it'd be only fifteen minutes if it wasn't for all of the horrible slow-mo for no reason. Fuck this movie. Also, I have zero knowledge on the dolls, but did they have any real backstory other than just dressing up in various outfits? Update: at eighteen minutes in, I can say this might be the fastest time in a movie where I've seen lifelong friends have a semi-falling out montage.

If it's the bad guys I guess, because that would break canon even more as the Punisher targeted 90% male villains, with the only females being like super egregious baddies like Elektra, sex slavers, and child murderers. Though with Elektra it was more of a frenemy kind of thing as they would go from trying to kill each other to being lovers, sort of just depended on if Elektra was running the Hand or not.

    For Richer or Poorer (1997)

No shit, they were performing at the CA State Fair a month ago and a friend and I were seriously considering going to see them if only to see how badly the crowd would troll them, and if they would walk off stage due to Shrek chants.
  4. Yeah I still don't get that one outside of the Marvel formula of having a name actor, usually one that's been nominated or won an Oscar, to anchor the project with name recognition.
  5. Am I the only one wishing the end credit scene for the Defenders was the owner of the Chinese food restaurant now owning a giant building as the new home for his business and a slew of sports cars to be used for delivery after Danny gave him his black card?
  6. Shocker at least finally got his due in Superior Foes where he became the head of the Maggia in New York after knocking the Punisher out in front of the heads of the mob. As for Taskmaster I would love a singular series, both in TV and comic, but would settle for him in something like the Thunderbolts. The character would have to go under some appearance modifications, such as making his mask tactically reasonable like a ballistic mask, but I think if they went the route of Unthinkable and made it kind of a Jason Bourne type story where he's trying to figure out the holes in his past, it could work. So uh, what movie we talking about?
  7. It's why I'm kinda bummed he won't be a Deadpool movie as those two have great chemistry on the page, as they both recognize that they're just dudes doing an job and actually go out to help one another at points.

Very excited for this show, though I hope the woman in the trailer getting a gun aimed at her head isn't Maria Castle, as that would be an egregious break in continuity.
  9. There are a few Marvel characters I want in live action media, and I don't know enough about Moon Knight out of the handful of times I've seen him in crossovers, though what I've seen from the most recent run I've enjoyed. I'd love to see Moon Girl, but with Devil Dinosaur it seems doubtful as the CGI would be constant and I doubt that they would put that cost forward for a show. Squirrel Girl would work in either movie or show form and with Anna Kendrick voicing her desire to play the character it seems likely over other characters that have been bandied about. And while the focus has been on heroes, I'd love for Marvel to show the other side of the spectrum and have series based on villains like The Superior Foes of Spider-Man which if they could hit the humor of that series would be amazing. Same for a Bullseye series as there have been many limited run series that are fantastic and could create a three dimensional character that would eventually interact with established characters like the Punisher or Daredevil. And again I'm going to stump for Taskmaster who is criminally underutilized by Marvel, especially after the great limited series the character had called Unthinkable, where it's revealed he's a SHIELD agent, who due to his superhuman ability of photogenic reflexes and physical movement prediction, has forgotten that he's a SHIELD agent because he can only remember the moves he's memorized from his targets as well as every person he passes in public. What made the series so good was how the character's abilities were shown by overlapping the character he was mimicking over Taskmaster's body, which could be an interesting dynamic for a Netflix show.
  10. I have two particular theories on this. First is plays into my theory that these are victims of Stockholm Syndrome, but more to it in that Manzini is truly insane to where he actually was some sort of genius doctor/scientist, especially after talking about how he left society after the A-bomb was made. He grabs these people from the Home for the Ugly and begins a process of surgically modifying them into these smaller forms, but of course there are failures in any experiment so he has a bunch of dead kidnapees in his giant store/dungeon, so he's able to provide the eyes and toes in order to keep Ali in line. Second theory is more like Let the Right One In where he's going out and killing people in order to provide parts for Ali to eat while keeping it under lock and key so that the outside world doesn't discover the Kids. This theory seems more logical, but again with this movie i would not be surprised if either were correct.
  11. Yeah I can see the next seasons of Iron Fist and Luke Cage being combined with a subtitle of Heroes for Hire. It's hard to keep track of the smaller names that Marvel owns since there are some that you wouldn't think another company owns but do. A prime example is Taskmaster, who just recently came back under ownership of Marvel, though I would have loved to see him in a Deadpool film as their interactions in comic form are always great. Yet hearing a character like that is under the Marvel media banner again gives me hope for a Thunderbolts Netflix show as they have the characters necessary to create the bulk of the Daniel Way iteration of the team that was put together by Thunderbolt Ross aka Red Hulk (William Hurt). You then also have the Punisher and Elektra and there have been rumblings of an eventual Bullseye appearance on a Netflix show. Throw in Taskmaster and you have the makings of a great Netflix series.

I remember not hating this, though I was 10 at the time and loved Allen from Home Improvement. There are some things that make me shake my head now due to my career, like how impossible it would be for a judge to remain on a trial with any kind of personal connection with a defendant, whether positive or negative. If we're going to break the Tim Allen bubble for the podcast there are many worse films to be discussed like Zoom, Joe Somebody, Christmas With the Kranks.
  13. Are we sure that he didn't just kidnap a bunch of people from the Home for the Ugly and convince them that they are aliens by means of Stockholm Syndrome? Also after finishing The Defenders, can I say that I am honestly shocked that

To be fair, I don't think he knew it was stolen when he paid just shy of 300k for it.
  15. Yeah I remember all that. but it was one of those things where Weaver was talking about basically leading the Fingers of the Hand out of Kun Lun and that they've all been leading it for years upon years, but when looking at the leaders it reminded me of Street Fighter where no one on the show had any clue as to who the natural citizens were or were supposed to be.
  16. Almost done with Defenders and from what I can gleam is that Finn Jones felt it necessary to try and talk like a gritty/righteous superhero, even when he wasn't hero-ing it up, to the point of cringeworthy. His fighting scenes have improved a bit since his series, but that was a low pole to begin with. I also realized that they never really prepared Kristen Ritter for fight scenes involving more than one person at a time because she came off clunky at numerous instances, though I did find her fight with the fat ninja who was tailing one of Jone's clients to be legitimately funny as he tried to throw some of his own spin kicks, which I hope was the point of the scene. The worst part of the series was easily Sigourney Weaver's character who I felt did jack shit as far as a villain goes, especially for a Marvel series. Also is Kun Lun like Shadaloo from Street Fighter where it's basically a hodgepodge collection of cultural and ethnic backgrounds and everyone just claims to be a natural citizen? Because the heads of the Hand claim they left Kun Lun to form the Hand and it's a wide spectrum of backgrounds in order to cover various continents (North America, China, Japan, Africa), which just causes me to ask did millennia ago a bunch of different pilgrims found this land like America or is it something that's supposed to be taken for granted as comic book logic? And if it's the pilgrims theory, what happened to the original Kun Lun citizens?
  17. Apparently as soon as he saw the final product, Cummings became a vocal member of the boycotts against this film. I was amazed when I heard that Tangerine was only a year older than Dodger, because that gang legit looked to be in their late 20s at the youngest, while Dodger looked maybe 12. I also had issue with the name Tangerine as the name of the prostitute from the film of the same name. But looking back at this movie, it would not have seemed out of place for a prostitute to befriend a young boy and his gross alien buddies in order to help her create a fashion line. Also, am I the only one that was expecting to see "A Cannon Films Production" in the opening credits?

Holy shit, there was almost a CGI remake of this made in 2013 produced by Michael Eisner and directed by Oscar nominated short film director PES. Why the fuck would they think this film warranted a remake?

I'm about 20 minutes into this one and am liking it so far, but I will recommend the documentary on Amazon about the making of Pet Sematary called Unearthed and Untold. It's not like other making of documentaries about infamous flops like Doomed or Lost Souls, but it is pretty detailed in how the much work went into making that film and how involved the Maine town where the film was shot was involved with making the film. Pretty interesting watch if you enjoy Stephen King's books or movies.

Are they covering the original Wicker Man? Because Christopher Lee wasn't in the Nic Cage remake that was covered by the show.

Okay for my memory the first R rated film I saw in theaters was Lethal Weapon 3, in which i was 4 1/2, but my dad and I didn't sit through the whole thing as I got sick about 20 minutes in. Later that same year I saw The Medicine Man, starring Sean Connery. which was technically my first PG-13 film which was followed by Jurassic park the following year. As for odd reimaginings of famous brands, did anyone else here have Meanie Babies? They were the Garbage Pail Kids version of Beanie Babies but were uber gross. I had two because very few stores sold them. Hurley the Toucan and Boris the Mucousaurus

In answer to Paul saying I've got too much time on my hands, as evidence by my numbers for last year's DLM challenge, whenever I'm not working for six days a week, I'm watching movies.

In the movie it does look like him because it's a very quick scene but in a frozen frame you can tell it's not him, and it's gotten to the point where's he given multiple interviews on how he's not the guy in the movie.
