But that would mean that i would have to own that shitty, shitty movie.

Goddamnit, I should have read the previous pages to see this, already rented Dragon Heart. Oh well.

While the lineup is the weakest it's been since it has started in Sacramento, I am looking forward to meeting Sebastian Stann next week at Wizard Con, though the line will be a bitch since he's the biggest name this year.

Yeah last year I ended up at 376 due to a last quarter rush of movies, especially in October. Since I work two jobs for six days a week I treat my lone day off as a real lazy day and just cram in movies or video games. Only problem is now I have a bunch of TV shows I gotta catch up on. Thank god I can read comics while working in my library or I'd be so behind on all my pop culture vices.

Is there a video game-based movie that *doesn't* belong on How Did This Get Made?

I fucking loved P.T. which was scarier than the last 3-4 Silent Hill Games combined, despite only lasting about 25 minutes. It pisses me off so much that Konami cancelled the game that was being directed by Guillermo del Toro and featuring Norman Reedus as the lead character, to instead focus on gambling machines like slots and pachinko. -
Right now I'm at 198 with about 15% being previously seen. Netflix just added a buttload of new movies, which are pretty decent.

I didn't see a thread for this in the search, but if there is one I apologize. This movie is batshit crazy 80s. This is basically the film version of how Frank Stallone views the role his music has in shaping the world. From Ivan Drago being basically a Russian version of Hitler's perfect man to Apollo Creed entering a fight dress like a pimp version of Uncle Sam with 500 different nicknames, this movie is excruciatingly laughable. While Rocky V was just out and out bad, this one at least you can laugh at and find odd enjoyment from. Things like reporters seeing nothing wrong with how Drago looks or fights, basically looking like steroids personified, because the Soviet propagandist says he is clean, because US reporters would so quickly believe what a Soviet said during the Cold War. Then you have Rocky training almost alone in the mountains with Soviet G-Men watching his every move, almost assuredly reporting back to Drago's camp, beating Drago who has a training facility that rivals the hi-tech ones of today. This win of course would effectively end the Cold War obviously. This is all predicated by the fact that Creed is killed by Drago in the ring because Rocky idiotically follows Creed's wish that he not throw in the towel. Yet the most unbelievable thing about this movie is that for some reason Rocky decides to give Paulie, maybe the most despicable character in movie history, a robot. In one odd seen the robot is seen to have had its role altered a bit to where it now has a female voice and brings Paulie beers. Even odder is the fact that Paulie is eye banging the shit out of this robot, leading me to believe that at some point he's going to try and drunkenly fuck it, at one point saying he was going to get its circuits tied. That's a real robot too, apparently, that was meant to help kids with autism as well as help doctors get a better understanding of the illness, yet when Stallone saw it he decided to add it to his movie and even cut out the scene that showed Paulie altering its circuits to make it female, because it was complaining about how dirty he was and his cigar smoke, in sort of a knock-off Odd Couple. I now almost wish there was a deleted scene where we see a couple doctors lamenting that they couldn't get the one Sico robot available to help their various autistic patients and wondering where it could be, leading to a hard cut of Paulie in bed with it and the robot telling him "that happens to a lot of guys I hear." Here's that article on the robot: http://www.philly.co...ulie-beers.html

I remember seeing this and not believing how many notable actors were in this, and how utterly shitty it was. I have to assume that people signed on to this after hearing Bono wrote it and Mel Gibson was a part of it, because even now the overall plot is completely generic outside of the unnecessarily quirky characters that fill this flophouse.

You think he was playing that thinking how much better than Crystal Skulls it was? -
Those two have a history of being contrarian with movies on both negative and positive sides. People have this love affair with them because they weren't snooty film critics, for the most part, but they have done some cheap things in the past, like Siskel ruining the ending of the first Friday the 13th because he felt no one should see the movie and he didn't like the director, or Ebert getting into a fight with people over how he gave a classic like Godfather part 2 3 stars while giving the abysmal Godfather part 3, 3 1/2 stars, using an argument that he doesn't care if he's consistent in how he reviews movies. He's also given movies like Anaconda 3 1/2 stars, yes a higher rating than Godfather 2, while giving standing classics like Die Hard, Blue Velvet, and The Usual Suspects all under 2 stars.

Yeah the Mad Max game was great and nailed the feel of that world. I'm wondering how well Assassin's Creed is going to fare later this year because while it looks well done and has Michael Fassbender as the lead, the overall backstory to that series is a bit confusing, more so now that it looks like rather than the main character in a VR machine that accesses his ancestor's memories, he's attached to a wire-fu machine so that he has a full body experience of the memories. I know that there has been talk of David O. Russel doing an Uncharted adaptation, which is apparently scheduled to come out in January of next year, but he kept talking about putting Mark Whalberg in as Nathan Drake which is such a travesty that it makes him look scholarly as a science teacher in The Happening, especially since the first few games had Drake looking and sounding a bit like Nathan Fillion, who would be perfect for the role. -

The thing with video game adaptations of movies are that for the most part, the game maker just cannibalized a in progress game in order to rush it to the market, or just rush it in general to cash in on a big movie, ET being the biggest example of this. Rarely do games exceed expectations when they are an adaptation, though the ones that do are AMAZING, the original Goldeneye and the Riddick games are the two big ones. Unfortunately we will never get to play the Avengers game that was supposed to come out around the time of the first movie, which was supposed to be a first person fighting/shooter where you played as various members of the team and could use their various powers. The company lost funding shortly after revealing their test footage I believe or there was a licensing issue. -
I am trying to find time to see this one as it does look interesting. As for High Rise, I thought it was okay, albeit a bit long winded and at times a bit too artsy for its own good. To me it reminded me of Blindness with Julianne Moore in that it had a great premise, but then got bogged down in an over complicated message.

If they were to do Tron they need to get Seth Green for it. If not Tron than I would love to see Green discuss his role in the Full Moon Entertainment film, Arcade, which also stars Peter Billingsley. The movie was batshit crazy and about video games having the chance to be evil. It also features some truly awful CGI in the era when it was beginning to become common in films. -

The sequel to Silent Hill is fine, though a bit more crazy than the first one, and it also answers a few lingering questions from the first movie. As for Olyphant, I thought he was good in Hitman after I saw it, but his voice was kind of off putting, especially being a huge fan of the series and hearing the voice used for 47 which is a bit more monotone and almost robotic, which is why I thought Rupert Friend was amazing at portraying the character in the sequel, definitely a better choice than the original choice of Paul Walker. -

Regarding Mortal Kombat, I think it is the most dedicated representation of what it was adapting, especially at that time when Mortal Kombat didn't have a deep mythology involving dozens of characters. It was weird listening to that episode where the hosts complained that they just went from fight to fight to progress the plot, while in the Street Fighter episode they specifically were against them not doing that very thing in favor of creating this expanded world with armies and diplomats. The first Lara Croft was okay, though Cradle of Life could easily be done. I agree about both Hitman movies as they got the tone and look of the games, though the idea to cast Timothy Olyphant in the first one was kind of a headscratcher. I liked the Silent Hill movies since I am a fan of the games and knew about the mythology of the series, which is confusing at times even for fans of the games, but if I hadn't played the games before seeing those movies, I would have been pissed and confused like what appeared 75% of the audience in the theater seemed to be. The uber-ambiguous ending also didn't help matters. The other ones that I think that don't belong on the show are the Resident Evil movies because even though they are ravaged by critics and have huge plot holes at times, they are pretty good at capturing the feel of the games and are straightforward action horror movies. The only other one that I can think of that doesn't belong, mainly because it's so "eh" was Need For Speed which came and went so quickly and there wasn't a whole lot of WTF in it. -
I stick by my comment of Singer being the obvious choice so long as he does original stories for the X-Men, rather than trying to adapt a famous arc for the screen. I agree that the focus should be shifted from Wolverine and now Mystique since Jennifer Lawrence became a huge star, and focus on other characters. Because let's face it, there are an ASSLOAD of mutants available for an adaptation. While Gambit is out as an option since Channing Tatum is going to screw him up worse than what the first Wolverine movie did to Deadpool, I think characters like Nightcrawler, Iceman, and Hope Summers would be really good. Hell I'd be willing to see an original story under the format of the Wolverine and the X-Men series or the Avengers Arena series which featured young mutants who weren't all brand name characters fighting to the death, which would work considering that the studio is considering more R rated superhero stories in the wake of Deadpool's success.

Yeah I was surprised at how many of the side stories for Secret Wars were really good or at least met my expectations. Out of the 45 or so I got 33 of them and can only point out a couple that outright sucked (Age of Apocalypse, Spider Island, E Is For Extinction), a few that sort of weren't what I was expecting like Old Man Logan which was the one I was most looking forward too because I loved the original story which is rumored to be one of the possible storylines for the next Wolverine movie, and many that just blew me away for how good they were (Marvel 1872, Hail Hydra, and M.O.D.O.K Assasin). I would be interested to see how they would accomplish that because while the character is one of the most powerful in the Marvel Universe, she is also one of the most ridiculous. If anything I would love to see her in Deadpool 2 as a lovable, cutesy foil to Deadpool, who she has beaten in the comics on a couple occasions.

If you haven't already started reading it, pick up X-Men '92 which was started as part of Secret Wars, it is fantastic and perfectly recreates the spirit of the show.

What's funny is that Piper is acting his ass off in this and is actually pretty good, which is understandable since he has the most acting experience, but then you have guys like Douglas and Angle who are just awful, though Angle is only in the film for a couple minutes. For the most part the Indy guys are having fun, though there was one guy who played up the stupid nerd role way too much, so far as saying "reboot" as if that would reset real life as the zombies are eating him.

Featuring Roddy Piper, "Hacksaw" Jim Duggan, Shane Douglas, Matt Hardy, Kurt Angle, and apparently more is the horrible looking movie. It looks as if they aren't even trying. What's worse is that the leads are all guys who have trained in selling fights and making them look realistic, but the fights in this movie look like they are done by a bunch of backyard wrestlers. Also, the trailer shows Matt Hardy getting murdered which may be the only interesting thing in the movie. http://www.cinemablend.com/new/Pro-Wrestlers-Zombies-Trailers-Most-Bonkers-Thing-You-See-Today-36788.html

I get what you're saying about Jubilee and I realize that there were female fans who liked her, but Marvel seemed to put all their eggs into that basket when trying to bring in female fans rather than spread around because it wasn't all one taste for fans. Hell the male characters were more spread around in publicity and a lot of them sucked (Morph was basically male Mystique, and Banshee just screamed real loud), but they still got a push. It's only going to get worse now because Marvel as a comic industry is spreading itself way too thin as it seems they are trying to right the errors that they made in the 90s, with over 70 new comics in this recent relaunch, most fans whether new or old are getting turned off by what they are doing, whether it's rebranding characters or trying to create new ones, which is incredibly rare. There just seems to be no happy medium in how they market because they are just going from one extreme to another.

Holy shit I've just seen this since it's offered on Amazon Prime, I think only because it's a Troma film and all of those recently got put on Prime. The acting his horrible from most of the wrestlers which is odd since many of the wrestlers were good at cutting promos. The gore isn't bad but it's Troma cheap so you get what you get, and the plot is understandably ridiculous while also allowing for bitter wrestlers like Shane Douglas to air their grievances against former promoters who they are still angry at even 10-15 years after the initial issue occurred.

But doesn't it go about the wrong way of trying to bring a female audience into comics, especially with a cast of characters as diverse as the X-Men? I mean back then it was basically Marvel saying "well we have these great, strong characters in Storm, Jean, and Rogue, who are three dimensional should we make one or more of them the focal point? Nah let's just go with a mallrat that shoots sparkles from her fingertips, that's all girls care about." Unfortunately the only character that has survived with an inkling of non-doucheyness is Storm who has taken the place of Professor X and Wolverine as headmistress of the school, while Rogue is a bipolar psychopath and Jean is a eavesdropping witch who doesn't know when to not read people's minds and worse, tells everyone what she sees. I didn't say it was okay I was just answering about what his age was, but I also didn't see any spark between the two in this movie, I just saw her doing her usual Jean mind opening thing and then Wolverine remembering whatever memories he had that actually shouldn't be possible since the whole X-Men Origins: Wolverine storyline was retconned with Days of Future's Past, though he might have just remembered that he had a Blockbuster movie that was REALLY overdue.

Yeah Marvel's crossovers have gotten ridiculous, though they aren't as bad as what they used to be in the above image. Now at least the crossover is put into one book in a decent order for you to read. Though the Black Vortex crossover between the X-Men and Guardians of the Galaxy was a mess. Unfortunately Marvel uses these collections as an excuse to gouge the hell out of readers. The Secret Wars collection which just came out a couple months ago was at least $50 if you were buying in a store and the Original Sin collection was $70, so thank god I have Amazon Prime to save myself an assload of money. Another unfortunate side effect of constant crossovers are the side stories that are also released. Secret Wars had 43 side books released for that crossover, and while most were pretty good, the ones that stunk (Age of Apocalypse and Spider-Island, in particular) were god awful. Plus trying to get your loyal readers to shell out almost $600 dollars for paperbacks is ridiculous even by Marvel standards.
