Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)
RyanSz replied to zmbabwe's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
See BvS because you will at least hear the screen. When I was going into the movie there was a crowd of about 20 people wearing Greek flag shirts and waving flags, or wearing homemade bedazzled shirts with sayings from Greek Wedding and were loud as all hell. They were basically using the movie as their own personal Greek Pride parade/family reunion and I don't envy anyone who went into the movie hoping to have a quiet-ish viewing of the film. -
I just started rewatching this movie and holy shit it really says how crazy this movie is when it appears every piece of furniture is a crappy IKEA item that was shoddily put together and you have gangsters opening fire on children with Tommy guns, all in the first 10 minutes no less.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

The problem with the argument is that the critics being used in describing the bad reviews to the stars of this movie are the more highfalutin ones from publications that are mostly aimed at Oscar bait or small indie flicks. If they wanted to get an honest opinion from Affleck or Cavill, they should have reference bad reviews from critics in that wheelhouse like from Cinemablend or any of the countless comic/pop culture review sites that have reviewed this movie. Then and only then do I think that they could have gotten a more direct answer from the stars, though they still might have bounced back with "well it's posting in the high 70s in audience repsonses." Which could have made for a more cohesive discussion about comic films and the people who see them as casual viewers compared to diehards who are looking at the film through a microscope. -
Yeah what Karen did at the end of the season was tantamount to Time's person of the year being "you" with the cover being a reflective sheet or in the first Spider-Man the crowd of New Yorkers throwing shit off the Brooklyn Bridge to distract Green Goblin because New Yorkers are tough, it just came off as cheap pandering though after the events of 9/11. I can get why Foggy was mad because Matt basically hung him out to dry on the Punisher issue, but Karen was just a wreck this entire season, and for what, After watching this season I wished that Matt had started a relationship with Rosario Dawson's character who, especially after her appearances on Jessica Jones and this season, seems to really have her head on straight in regards to how she gets shit done.
-
Karen brings her own drama into the relationship though because her heart is basically stapled to her sleeve. Also it seemed like she was too quick to give up on the relationship with Matt without actually standing firm and asking what was going on, like she did later in the season when they were over. When she walked in and saw Stick and Matt while Elektra was in Matt's bed nursing her wounds, she didn't stop and ask "what's up," she just immediately assumed the worst and left. For all she knows, it could have been Matt helping a injured or sick friend or friend of a friend with concern to Stick. Then you have Castle calling her out with the "Want them to hurt you" speech which was amazing. I definitely feel that the next season is going towards the "Born Again" storyline which would be very interesting.

Yeah streaming has made it more easy for me to keep track, though if that craps out on me or during October when I binge horror movies, I have my 1200+ DVD collection that I can scour through. Last year I made it to 374 with rushing in the last half of the year because I really didn't think I was going to do it at the start of the year. This year I went full force into it and am trying to see how far I can get while actually trying to pass 365.

Are there any films that have either been done on the show or other bad movies that you have seen that were bad when they first came out but have actually gotten better in context or what they portrayed over time as compared to the numerous lists that are online about films that have aged horribly since their release? For me there are a few that pop out to me include Demolition Man in that i has predicted quite a few social changes that have occurred over the last few year and Last Action Hero which has surprisingly aged well as a satire of action movies. Any others that you guys can think of?
-
i ain't your pal friend! As for Stick, he even comes off like this in the comics, especially in the Ultimate Universe where he had been turned into a vampire and used his past relationship with Matt to easily turn him as well. So while it's a very good representation, it still doesn't mean he's a total dickface. As for Tony Stark his charm always comes in a very smarmy way which makes him disingenuous. Now with Civil War 2 on the way and Stark apparently set to play the voice of reason against tyranny that Captain America played in the first CIvil War, I just don't know if I can root for him. As for the DLM challenge, how far are you Fister, I just passed 100 today so I have a little bit of wiggle room, plus I'm actually trying this year as opposed to last year when I made a mad dash in the last half of the year to complete it.
-
Hackers is actually one of the movies consistently on those lists of films that really don't hold up to aging.
-
I agree that Sleepaway Camp is still a bad movie, but in comparison to the countless slashers released at that time, this really does stand the test of time, similar to The Burning which I still think has a 100% rating on Rotten Tomatoes.

Well with what's happened regarding Karen and Wilson Fisk this season, I can definitely see it going down the path of that storyline. And with teasers in the promotional material for this season and With Charlie Cox stating that he the character in the next season, I can definitely see Bullseye coming soon if not also Taskmaster, who has recently returned to the ownership of Marvel Studios.

Then when he was originally cast maybe, though he looked absolutely baked in all the pics of him in the suit. -
I think I like this season a bit more than the first as it wasn't bogged down with the flashbacks of how Murdock became Daredevil, though I feel that Wilson Fisk was a better villain than what was this season, though I can say I about cheered when Also, I can honestly say that Stick might be the most pretentious person in the Marvel universe not named Tony Stark. I also wonder how long they are going to stick with the Miller/Bendis/Brubaker version of Daredevil timeline before getting to a Mark Waid-esque level of Daredevil.

Yeah I've heard that too, which wouldn't surprise me. It almost makes me wonder if this is his real voice now:

So does that mean that Arnold Schwarzenegger is going to have an American accent when he hits 70?

One thing I forgot to ask, is it just me or would it be HILARIOUS that this entire movie, or the entire DC universe, was basically just a rabies fever dream of Bruce Wayne as he's dying at the bottom of the hole he fell into? Because the amount of bats that enveloped that kid at the start of this movie, there's no way that he didn't get bit at least a few times. -

See that's what they want you to think, that actors actually see the scripts for the movies that they are in. I believe that they just put a bag over their head, drive them to an unknown location and say "welcome to the set of the new Sandler film." -
Also, don't know if this has already been mentioned but there is sort of a Lady Bloodsport already, called Raze. It stars Zoe Bell and a bunch of other female stunt women in a death tournament scenario run by rich elites for their entertainment. The fights are brutal and really beautifully choreographed and it's on Netflix last I checked.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

Yeah I don't know why WB decided to put so much money into this with how the prior film did, all they did was set the bar unreasonably high. And with fanboys being the jerks that they are, if this doesn't break even every blogger and journalist will be writing that the DCU is dead, even though the next two films in are either near complete (Wonder Woman) or starting production within a couple months (Justice League). Damn fanboys -
Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice (2016)

Okay time to unpack my feelings after seeing this movie. Let me first say that I hate Superman's early solo stories as he was basically God as a boyscout. There were a few stories of his that I absolutely LOVE but those are either non-canon (Superman: Red Son, seriously people read this book) or they are more realistic to how a person realizing they have the powers of a god handles such a situation and burden (Superman: Earth One and the current run of Superman comics). I liked MoS because it fell into the former category and a lot of the reviews hated that fact because it wasn't their Superman from when they grew up. Also, I tend to agree with taylorannephoto about the reviews for this movie, I really couldn't see A.O. Scott of the New York Times liking this as he is a very artsy reviewer who never really likes anything mainstream. MoS wasn't the best movie but it had good moments and a very well designed villain in Michael Sheen's depiction of Zod. Unfortunately, it was bogged down in length from Kevin Costner's "worst dad in the universe" rendition of Pa Kent, which was something I didn't need in this film. Okay as for this film, I really liked it and will probably see it again in theaters, though it was far from perfect. As PlanB said, I didn't need to see the Wayne's get killed again, but thankfully it wasn't too long. The other thing that I absolutely did not like was Jesse Eisenberg's Lex Luthor. While I thought he was good with the nervous ticks and the cracking facade of sanity near the end of the film, for 3/4 of the movie he was literally playing the movie version of the Marvel villain Arcade. I would have preferred it if he played the character like he had played Zuckerberg in The Social Network, that I felt would have been better suited for Luthor. My only other real gripe with the movie was the size of Doomsday, who I felt was misused in this film. In this film he's a good 3 stories tall, when in the comics he was only slightly larger than Superman, sort of like a slightly larger Andre the Giant and that there were some elements that could have been cut along with the Wayne murders. Also with the backlash that the previous film got for collateral damage, I thought they really hammered home the "it's abandoned" motif that occurred a few times near the end of the film. The movie mixed all of the right elements of the comics it was pulling from (Dark Knight Returns, Trinity, etc.) and the cameos from other heroes were not as over the top as I expected, outside of a reference to the possible villain for the Justice League movie. Unfortunately, with the reviews like they are I don't expect this to break even, which the number is said to be a billion, unless this does amazingly overseas which isn't impossible as that did help MoS quite a bit. -

I never go by critics anymore with movies, because their tastes vary so much from the public more often than not. The reviews I've read from audiences that have seen it have loved it which gives me hope. I liked Man of Steel as a great representation of modern Superman over the campyness that he's been known for for years, though I will admit the trailers have not done the best to convey the final product, and the numerous announcements of character after character has not been the wisest move by DC and Warner Bros. -
Oh I've seen the documentary, but while they did do a lot of production themselves, not all of it was great. I mean going through their filmography and it was clear that they were using a shotgun technique of trying anything and everything and seeing what would hit the target. At points in the 80s they were releasing a movie once a week or at times multiple movies on the same day. There's a reason that the big studios don't do that kind of release schedule because it would bankrupt them like Cannon. As for the talent, yes they got Stallone and Chuck Norris in their peaks, but a lot of the time they were getting guys looking for a check like Dennis Hopper in Texas Chainsaw 2 or Charles Bronson in Death Wish 4. Like from the Lake Placid episode where they read David E. Kelly's bio about living the American Dream 90s style, the cousins running Cannon I feel were running their studio in the most 80s way that they thought possible. The only thing missing is a Tony Montana size mountain of coke on each of their desks.

It looks like a case of "even a broken watch is right twice a day" for Cannon in regards to this film and others like Cobra or Breakin' which did really well at the box office. Though with the award winners nominees, at least in the case of The Assault it seems like they did what WWE Studios does now by buying into a nearly completed movie with established actors already attached, like what they did with Dead Man Falling or Oculus. They seem to have had a better run doing this than their completely created films, Oculus in particular is a good horror movie, and from looking at The Assault, it seems like they maybe just joined on the production in order to help get a wider release for the film, as Cannon only really has a distribution credit on the film.
