Interesting thing, I review I read about The Final Girls in Rue Morgue Magazine, which is all about horror movies, and they absolutely hated it. Unfortunately, the review wasn't anything more than a slash piece because the movie had the gall to give honest satire about the slasher film genre. The reviewer and the magazine, takes itself way to seriously in regards to the genre which is unfortunate because while they hated this movie, they gave glowing reviews to some of the worst looking straight-to-DVD dreck I've ever seen, mainly because it was gory and used practical effects. I saw the Revenant last night, and while I really enjoyed it, I thought it was about 30 minutes too long, as it lingered on the flashbacks and visions. It was a beautifully shot movie and the acting was great, to the point I think Leo might finally get his Oscar, but in the end I'd have it in the back five of my top 10.

Mind you, this whole incident happened while the faux-POTUS was playing Angry Birds on his cell phone.

Zombie Beast of the Confederacy

I don't mean to be cruel to your friends but holy shit. The trailer seemed like it was three trailers that just hadn't been separated yet because the narrator rehashes plot points a few times during it. Also, I like that they basically cut scenes from the "Vietnam War VHS Collector set" commercials that played during soap operas or game shows in the middle of the afternoon. Also why did the bloody mass in the middle of the trailer have three feet? And with what you were saying about the director taking this super serious, it reminded me of this Cracked article concerning the Asylum which makes mockbusters and Sharknado. http://www.cracked.com/personal-experiences-1698-5-ugly-realities-making-mockbusters-like-sharknado.html -
Yeah this movie has a real Kazaam-like twist that I wasn't expecting when I read this for my children's literature class in college.

I think he's saying that in regards to film heirarchy, family films, mainly in the 80s and 90s, weren't of the highest caliber compared to other genres. Sort of like what horror has always been. Not so much a dig at those movies, but the genre as a whole, though I may be mistaken.

I think I need to edit your guide Cameron. Step one: Wish for infinite wishes them pimpslap your genie. Step two: bro out for the rest of your awesome, never ending, wish filled life. The end.

Yeah I had just posted that in the All Stars thread. He was also the young version of De Niro's son in A Bronx Tale. Also I completely forgot that they killed the shit out of a little kid in this movie, how high do you have to be to think that the only thing that can save your Shaq as a rapping genie movie is by killing off a pre-teen?

I haven't noticed that with RT, but my Amazon and Netflix suggestions are wonky because I'm watching such a wide range of stuff, both good and bad.

I liked The Big Short, especially how it handled portraying things in lay terms using celebrities and the performances of Bale and Carell were great. I didn't like that they glossed over a lot of stuff concerning who all was involved in the crisis, but did appreciate that they were at least honest enough to show that the main characters really weren't well intentioned people themselves, but rather guys looking to make a buck just as much as the people on the other side of the coin.

Surprised no one mentioned this one yet with the newest episode. Francis Capra - 2 movies (Crank and Kazaam).

To paraphrase Paul's "it's a bold move..."

That's funny considering all of the flack the Entourage movie got this year for its lack of non-main cast female characters and that the same applied to the series, especially considering Nerdist, Hardwick in particular, was one of the biggest complainers about that lack of diversity. I knew it was bad in Star Wars, but I didn't realize it was that bad.

What are you talking about, you know Kim Davis has that whole "sexy, crazy cat lady" look going for her.

I know I commented on this in one of the threads for the episode, calling it Aunt Jemima mixed with Julia Child because it came off as at least dark bronze or mahogany, not silver. I know there are various pics online of differing quality, but the video makes it appear brown.

I don't get that either, I know sometimes the trailer can be misleading, but you knew what the fuck you were getting into with Wolf. That reminds me of the woman who sued the studio that released Drive, because she thought it was going to be like the Fast & Furious movies. Granted one trailer was done that showed the chases and everything, but everything else showed how it was more like Thief and other noir movies of the 80s.

I was 9 when this came out, and didn't like it as much as I did Steel, which wasn't that much. I think because I wasn't so much into rap then as I was now, and was not expecting it to play such a huge part of the story, just thought it would be an urban genie story.

EPISODE 126 - The Star Wars Holiday Special
RyanSz replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Everything for Shadows of the Empire were pretty good, from the comics to the awesome N64 game that came out. With a series of books totaling over 100, you're going to have hits and misses. You can completely skip any of the kids series because they are aimed at entertaining young readers rather than legitimately connecting to the source material. -
Is the proper response for me having seen both this and Steel in theaters, to feel confused, angry, or both?

EPISODE 126 - The Star Wars Holiday Special
RyanSz replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Wow those stairs fucked him up. As far as what is cannon anymore, most of the books were considered cannon by Lucas, as were the games which offered more of the Empire side of the story. Yet now that there are hundreds of books, the mythology has gotten more complicated than Mortal Kombat's, which is why this movie is meant to wipe a lot of that stuff away. Also, I need to get me one of those BB-8's if only to terrify my cats. -
I thought Trainwreck was okay, but in the end it was a cookie cutter Apatow movie: 1. Independent person meets someone through their work or because of their work, usually after their is an awkward meeting with a oddball/dickish boss (Alan Tudyk, Diddy, Tilda Swinton) and an underling who is uncomfortable in the situation (Kristen Wiig in Knocked Up, Nick Kroll in Get Him to the Greek, Vanessa Bayer in Trainwreck). 2. Sparks fly and main character and other person start relationship. 3. Their differences tear them apart, briefly. 4. Sudden depressing/downer moment helps bring them together. 5. Main character ends up losing job or getting demoted. 6. They uneasily get back together. 7. They realize that they are perfect for each other, the end. I will say though that the performances in Trainwreck from John Cena, Tilda Swinton, and Colin Quinn, were especially funny and Schumer was pretty good for a first time lead. I'm surprised about your listing of Minions, that one I liked quite a bit, though I felt Sandra Bullock was kinda phoning in her performance. As for Fantastic Four, I just was buying some DVDs at Walmart and on the display they have for new movies, that has already been bumped to the section with straight-to-DVD dreck and whatever Tyler Perry or the WWE is releasing this month. I knew that this movie was going to fail, but not THIS bad.

He was good in Grosse Point Blank, but that was more of a comedic role. He just doesn't have the look of a guy who can kick your ass at a moment's notice, despite what Danny Trejo has said about him.
