EPISODE 126 - The Star Wars Holiday Special
RyanSz replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Maybe it's me but what if Jedi are just guys with a lot of magnets in their clothes and they call it "the Force." -
Yeah for some reason Cusack has been on this kick of being in bad direct-to-video action movies, maybe in the hopes of coralling him a spot in Expendables 4. Thomas Jane has been bouncing around ever since the Punisher didn't meet expectations, mostly TV stuff, so it's not a surprise to see him here. Though I bet he's kicking himself right now that he passed on the possibility to play Rick Grimes in the Walking Dead in favor of staying on Hung after HBO passed on making TWD.

The one thing that kinda bugs me logistics-wise is how is BB-8's head on its body? Is it magnets that it uses to move and keep its head in a near stationary position or is it an incredibly fine wire network laid in the body of the droid? -
Electric Boogaloo - The Wild Story Of Cannon Films
RyanSz replied to WayneMiller's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Yeah Batman was certifiably insane, especially with him rambling about a mob hitman. Superman was crazy in that he believed that he was the illegitimate child of Sandy Dennis, and that he had been there at her deathbed. At least the guy playing Hulk seemed like he had a real chance of breaking through. It also reminds me of the Paul F. Tompkins bit about the performer who dressed up as Freddy Kreuger and stabbed a guy, after watching this I'm amazed stuff like that doesn't happen more often.- 27 replies

Electric Boogaloo - The Wild Story Of Cannon Films
RyanSz replied to WayneMiller's topic in How Did This Get Made?
There are so many possible episodes that can be made from the Cannon library, holy shit. I'm starting to think that Menaham just lost a lot of weight and changed his name to Tommy Wiseau. I'm watching the Superman doc right now and am liking what I see so far, though the editing is kinda weird in that some lines are repeated from different angles. Also there is a troll version on youtube which goes into about 10 minutes of the film but then the other 80 minutes is the lead twitching in a hallway with two people wearing Bioshock Splicer masks. If you guys haven't seen it yet, watch Confessions of a Superhero which follows a handful of people who dress up as superheroes and busk on Hollywood Blvd. The majority of these people are certifiable nutso, especially the guys who dress as Batman and Superman, but the overall story is really an interesting look into these people's lives.- 27 replies

To be fair, no one really knows what Wiseau's age is so Malkovich is a possibility.

It's weird in that this really didn't get much play when it came out until it became a "video nasty" in the UK and then did really well in the US in comparison to what the production company was hoping for. It's at about the same level as Sleepaway Camp so think it would work for the show.

Mortal Kombat Annihilation (1997)
RyanSz replied to maggotlimbo's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
I did actually like the web series from a couple years ago. where it was sort of a Dark Knight retelling of the Mortal Kombat mythos. It sort of fell apart when the received studio funding and they wanted it to be more like the movies. I still haven't watched the second season of it, but the first was pretty decent, especially compared to this shit. -
Wow they got Oscar nominee Jackie Weaver to play the mom and Zac Efron to play Chris-R. Looking at the rest of the cast this could either be an amazing behind the scenes movie or a great disaster in itself. I honestly can't wait to hear Josh Hutcherson as Denny, though I'm not yet sold on Franco as Wiseau.

Most annoying Screaming, helpless bystanders in movies
RyanSz replied to ElieB's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I think after Tea Leoni worked with Nic Cage in The Family Man she absorbed his acting style, which is clearly evident in JP3 and Spanglish. I wanted both kids to be killed in War of the Worlds, talk about two insufferable pricks that didn't need to breathe a second longer. My list would include: Yeardley Smith in Maximum Overdrive - "CCCCCUUURRRRTIIISSSS" Vanessa Lee Chester in Lost World: Jurassic Park - completely worthless daughter of Ian Malcolm The kids that get stuck in Jaws 2 -
What was most insane for me was that they give away the surprise around Daniel Craig's character and who he really was IN THE TRAILER! Why spoil your movie's big surprise like that? It was like with the remake of When a Stranger Calls, most people who that movie was targeted at (teens) probably never heard of the original so they wouldn't know the twist, but in the trailer there they are revealing that the stranger is in the house with the kids, such stupid marketing.

Yeah I saw some truly shitty movies in October when I binged horror movies, Crazy Murder being the worst, though the good definitely outweighed the bad. Hateful Eight was amazing, and the Roadshow version was really an interesting experience since it had a musical overture before the movie started and an intermission, though the movie didn't feel like it was over three hours at all. I did want to beat the shit out of the family behind me who was discussing what was happening in the movie while it was playing and trying to figure out who each character was. Tig was a great doc and I haven't gotten around to Electric Boogaloo, but ones like Game Over and Indie gamer were also really good. And as far as history docs go, Never Sleep Again and Crystal Lake Memories are fantastic documentaries on the Nightmare on Elm St. and Friday the 13th series that cover each movie or TV show in the for both and interviews not just main actors but also side characters who had bit parts but were memorable or had a memorable part, be warned though they are long, Never Sleep Again is around 4 hrs and Crystal Lake Memories is just under 7 hrs.

EPISODE 126 - The Star Wars Holiday Special

There is not enough time in the world to try and break down everything nuts about the Star Wars meets Heavy Metal cartoon. Though I will say I think Hamill's makeup was designed to make him look more like his cartoon counterpart. -
This one I didn't mind so much as it wasn't truly terrible. It was a nice spin on the idea of angels and what they do though you have Angie McDowell which is a recipe for any bad movie. If they were to do a weird Travolta one it should be Phenomenon which came out the same year as this I believe and was much crazier as Travolta gets psychic powers from a flash of light and is also able to Limitless himself into learning anything and everything in the span of a couple seconds.

See the DLM challenge was just watch 365, which is what I did. I didn't included movies I watched more than once in a year, was slacking by June but made up for it in October when I binge watch horror movies and watched about 120 during that month alone.

EPISODE 126 - The Star Wars Holiday Special

The thing is though this was about the heroes, not the villains, similar to New Hope. I can understand where they will be built upon in the sequels because at this point Abrams is trying to get these new protagonists across to us. For all of the complains about Ren, I liked his arc the best because in all fairness, he's still grasping his place in the Force. He's not a full Sith lord yet but he's getting there, it's just his emotions that are way out of line, similar to how Annakin was emotionally screwed up in episodes 2 and 3. Phasma was unfortunately hyped so much by fans that expectations could never be met, I'm hoping the character improves, but you never know. To me, that character was like what happens to every big video game release, writers and fans hype them up SO MUCH with what they want to be in them or what they expect, that when the game is finally released and still really good, if not great, people complain because it was not fitting with the image that they had in their head. I just read an article on how Fallout 4 was a certain writers most disappointing game of the year because they had envisioned all of this possible stuff and when nothing like that happened, they were mad. Now NONE of this stuff was really mentioned by the publisher as being part of the game, but dammit it SHOULD have been. Way I look at it, when I hear a game or movie coming out I expect one simple thing from it, be good. If it can do that then hey it met my expectations. -

I have a bad feeling that Poe is going to get hurt by BB-8, mainly because Oscar Isaac's track record with robots is not that great, neither is Domhnall Gleeson's. -
I actually liked that because it was a pretty smooth transition. It was used to an even better effect in the Saw movies where they would literally create hybrid scene sets to where they could practically create the transitions between scenes without editing.

This wasn't so bad as it was indicative of Raimi's style in the early 90s. The montage scenes, the scene where it's obviously a dummy of Ted Raimi is hanging out of a manhole when it gets hit by a car, and the over the top villains (hello one-legged guy with a gun in his prosthetic limb), are just what he was doing a lot of at that time. It wasn't until he did A Simple Plan that he modified how me made his films, before going back with the first Spider-Man film.

I myself enjoyed the Force Awakens, despite a couple small gripes I had near the end of the film, and I can't wait to see what they do with the eighth episode. I thought Poe ended up as sort of a Wedge Antilles type character in that you'd thought he'd have a bigger role, especially considering they had Oscar Isaac playing him when his career has been on the upswing. I'm still on the fence about Finn as a character because I don't know where they are taking him. At one point he plays up conflicted emotions and wants to actually do right in the world, while the next scene he's acting like a stereotypical extra from a Fast and Furious movie. -
Can definitely see Slattery as Thompson.

So is no one going to talk about Harvey Korman being in blackface basically doing a mix of Aunt Jemima and Julia Child?
