    EPISODE 118.5 - MINISODE 118.5

I have been trying for months to put a new photo up as my avatar and have had ZERO success. I put up a thread on the general questions forum and even sent a message to EW admin but have gotten nothing back. For me, I do enjoy Patton's comedy, outside of the political stuff but I don't like anytime a comedian gets into politics on stage because almost always it's that type of gladhanding that goes along with saying the city that you're in's name or talking about smoking weed. I feel Patton is right in that people as a whole have become overly sensitive to comedy these days, but that is overshadowed by some of the other things he rambles about. Though with the Kathryn Bigelow comment it really wasn't fair to say as he has talked about his "addiction" to films where he would watch hundreds a year, most in theater, so it's very safe to say his knowledge on film is a bit more substantial than the layperson. Though I myself am trying to see if I can watch 365 movies in a year, though I did start a bit late and am currently at 161.

    EPISODE 118.5 - MINISODE 118.5

There was a comic series a few years back called Ex Machina about a guy with techno-kinesis who becomes Mayor of NYC after saving one of the Twin Towers on 9/11 and the series covers his past as well as his daily issues as Mayor. The first major arc concerns a controversy surrounding a painting featuring Abe Lincoln with the N-word painted across it being hung in museum. The mayor and his aides try to talk her out of hanging it due to the backlash from all sides, but she refuses saying her art can't be messed with and that she is a true artist. Eventually someone breaks into the museum and destroys the painting, ending the controversy, only for one of the aides to figure out it was the artist herself who did it so that she wouldn't lose face in front of her fans while at the same time be able to place a lot of blame on the Mayor's office. After reading all of this crap from Whedon complaining about one thing or another or taking shots at someone, it brought that storyline back to mind for me. With him "leaving social media" and his outbursts towards other Marvel properties like the Punisher despite not knowing the source material, it seems to me like Joss didn't like what the spotlight brought him after years of being a big cult director. I'm sure there were chants of "sellout" after he decided to go from Firefly and Dr. Horrible to Avengers, and so by doing the stuff he's done, I feel it's a way to get back towards his small pond, but now with a lot more fisherman looking at it. I also really enjoyed A:R and actually didn't know he wrote it until a year or so ago, which then became pretty evident after listening to the dialogue. Also, along with underwater aliens and the egg chambers, we got Sigourney Weaver legitimately nailing an backwards over-the-head freethrow in basketball. I too was hoping to love this movie, though I just ended up liking it. As for Patton, he can have that ability sometimes to talk down to people, like during the Punisher episode when he said "only stupid people mention Kathryn Bigelow." It's kind of off putting and does nothing to help the cause. To be fair there are elements of the Ultimate versions of the characters in the MCU version, outside of Winter Soldier since he wasn't in the Ultimate Universe, though Bucky was. I did like the Ultimate Hawkeye for what he was as a modified soldier who became a total badass who could literally kill a person with his fingernails. His current version is a bit doofier, but in other series he's a part of like Secret Avengers it is revealed that he is a rather brilliant and calculating soldier, but he just acts aloof and stupid to lower everyone's expectations and guard when around him, something that even surprises Spiderwoman. The Fraction series doesn't show that because it doesn't need it as much due to Hawkeye fighting tracksuit wearing Russians who are trying to take over an apartment complex.

    EPISODE 118.5 - MINISODE 118.5

This has been one of my biggest pet peeves about Whedon is that it is never his fault, it is always someone else's doing when something in his project doesn't work. While Alien: Resurrection was not the best movie ever, it had a decent cast filled with veteran character actors and had some decent action, yet Whedon has ran that movie up and down and that none of it was his fault, it was all studio interference. Yes Joss, because the baby alien at the end would have been much better as a hermaphrodite with a giant vagina on its stomach as you had originally written and the studio had not changed it. With the initial success of Avengers 1 it pushed Whedon from a cult director to a mainstream film maker, and while people give Boondock Saints fans a bad rap for being jerks, they have nothing on Whedon fans who are goddamn brutal towards anyone who doesn't kiss the ground he walks on. And I couldn't have been happier for the backlash he got for the Black Widow thing after he was such a jerk about that 90 second clip from Jurassic World and he wore his feminist hat to bash a short scene with no context, but then he does what he did with Widow. I actually liked Spader as Ultron and thought he was really perfect for the role of a murderous A.I. who is hellbent on forming the world in its own image and liked that they brought Hawkeye's family into the fray like in The Ultimates, because it added a great layer to a character initially shown as a cold hearted assasin, though I doubt they will go the route of Black Widow being a double agent who ends up killing his family in front of him. There has been a push to have a series based on the female Hawkeye with Aubrey Plaza in the role, which I think is a perfect fit. Plus I would love to see the bro army in live action, bro. I think it was Cinema Blend who wrote in its review of the movie that Avengers 2 is the Iron Man 2 of Avenger movies, which after seeing it is pretty apt.

    EPISODE 118.5 - MINISODE 118.5

I liked Ultron mostly for the performances from the actors, especially the villains. I just found it weird that Marvel was using a tent-pole movie in their series more to promote ideas in upcoming films rather than focus on what was built up towards the Avengers movie.

    The Running Man (1987)

It's always weird seeing Ventura with that much hair.

    The Running Man (1987)

Well even with Cujo they changed the ending to allow the kid to live, same for Apt Pupil which has the main character basically become a serial killer who kills hobos and then gets gunned down by police as he takes a rifle and starts shooting at random people on the freeway. If this had been a few years earlier, I think Rage could have been made into a really good movie as the story wasn't so much about a shooting but rather a psychological study of teens in the 70s, basically the Breakfast Club in Hell. I hope Darabont makes The Long Walk because if done right it could be a fantastic movie, despite it basically being 100 teens walking for the entirety of the story.

    Road House Remake!?

I have a strong feeling that instead of the throat rip, it will be Rousey's armbar, yet if in using that move she rips her opponent's arm off and beats them to death with the limb, I'm all for it.

    EPISODE 118.5 - MINISODE 118.5

Yeah that sound effect is pure gold, I just imagine that is what King heard inside his head after doing five lines of coke and his heart was pounding through his chest, and thought that would be great for the rest of humanity to hear.

    The Running Man (1987)

If anything, Hunger Games is a ripoff of Battle Royale. The only real shared trait between these two films is that its a battle to the death shown on national TV. The stories are completely different as the novella for The Running Man had the main character as a average Joe who signed up for the show to get medicine for his wife and kid. Then rather be put into various game zones to fight killers one-on-one, he is let loose in the US to run and hide for as long as he can while he is hunted by the police and mercenaries, where he can earn bonus cash for killing those hunting him. Then ending of the story is kinda a revolution message as the main character rises up against the Network, similar to how Katniss rises up against the Capital, but that's about it. I fucking love this movie and would really hope that it gets covered by the show. Looking back on it, it does hold up pretty well and actually was a decent precursor to reality TV today and things like the Government having someone similar to the media/entertainment division of the Justice Dept. who handles the social media aspect of the government and things like Twitter accounts for elected officials. Also you have Richard Dawson who is a total boss in this movie, so of course you can't go wrong. I only wish that the other Richard Bachman stories had been adapted into films like The Running Man, Thinner, and Apt Pupil had. Stories like The Long Walk and Rage are amazing and would work great for film, though in today's social climate, a story like Rage which involves a student shooting his teacher and taking his high school class hostage would not be touched by any real movie studio with a twenty foot pole.

    EPISODE 118.5 - MINISODE 118.5

I've loved King's work for years but his success rate with film adaptations have been pretty bad. There is a great book out from the FAQ series that covers all of King's books up to the most recent Carrie I believe. In it, it describes how Dino de Laurentiis basically bought all the rights to King's books, some even before they were published, in the late 70s into the 80s. He then fired them out as quickly as he could to cash in on King's booming popularity. King would eventually talk him into letting him direct this movie after getting fed up with the low quality of the other films. I'm actually excited/worried about how they are going to handle this slew of remakes that are coming out for The Stand and It as those are massive pieces of work to fit into a 2 1/2 hr movie, the recent shitfest that was Under the Dome has only made me more worried as that was related to the source material for about two episodes. Then it's been announced that the first Dark Tower movie will be coming out in early 2017 and I have no idea how they are going to transfer that epic into a film. As far as favorite horror movies goes: John Carpenter's The Thing Cabin In the Woods Friday the 13th Part 4 A Nightmare On Elm Street Trick 'R' Treat

    EPISODE 118.5 - MINISODE 118.5

From a Buick 8 though wasn't really about a killer car, it was more of a portal between dimension. If you're looking to hate on authors that go to the same well over and over, look at James Patterson and Dean Koontz. King was always pretty good about diversifying his resume, especially as of late with his crime series trilogy that started with Mr. Mercedes.

    EPISODE 118.5 - MINISODE 118.5

I non-ironically love this horrible movie, ever since seeing played nonstop on TNT in the mid-90s. So glad this is finally being covered by the show, so much so I will be donating to the show to keep the cause of mocking laughably bad alive and well.

    Road House Remake!?

There are some remakes I like, usually the ones made for slashers as they get the audience that they are catering to, but when it's a remake of something that was either a cult hit or something pretty well loved I usually don't find them to be that great usually because they completely miss the point of what made the original great or the overall message of the story, as in the case of Total Recall and Robocop.

    EPISODE 118 - Furious 7: LIVE

Okay that makes sense, before it sort of had the same feeling as when Jon Bon Jovi, Christian Slater, and Patrick "not a real person" Muldoon passing on the lead role in Speed 2.
  17. RyanSz

    Road House Remake!?

Will she have the feathered mullet as well? As far as a remake goes, I see this going the same way as the remakes of Red Dawn, Total Recall, and Robocop where it gets everyone's dander up with the initial announcement, but then it's basically a dud that people quickly forget about.

    EPISODE 118 - Furious 7: LIVE

Okay I don't know if this was talked about earlier in the thread but who the fuck is Taylor Lautner to pass up on a role in one of the biggest movie franchises in the last 10 years? Seriously was he busy shooting another straight-to-DVD thriller? It's not like it was a bit role either but rather a role that seems to be getting built up in future movies. That decision might be the second worst role passover since Josh Hartnett passed on the ability to play Superman in Superman Returns Also can anyone else see them jumping right to Fast 10 from this one and when people ask the director just says, "they were so fast we already made it to the tenth one?"

    Bad Halloween Movies!

I know that's why I said if we go Craven, that it's another very viable option. I mean Kristy Swanson's idea of a cyborg is this:

    Hard Ticket to Hawaii (1987)

Let's not forget that a subplot of this movie involves a snake with cancer or somesuch disease that makes it incredibly dangerous and that Ridge Forrester from The Bold and the Beautiful kills a guy with a Frisbee surrounded by razor blades.

I would give that great pun a rimshot, but that is so amazing that it deserves an equal drum response.

    Bad Halloween Movies!

Also if we're going Carpenter, why not Deadly Friend where Kristy Swanson turns into a goddamn cyborg. Shit, I forgot about Chopping Mall, that movie would be AMAZING for the Halloween episode. Fuck it, do them all!

    EPISODE 118 - Furious 7: LIVE

My initial issues with this movie still stand in that I felt the villains were sort of dialed back because there were two of them when either would have been a perfect villain on their own. I also felt that Paul Walker's character should have died so that it could have brought the characters even closer together towards getting Statham. By leaving the character alive it leaves loose ends where Brian who we've been told is addicted to the live of crime and action from the last 6 movies he was in, can now just up end leave it especially with all the "familia" crap that they mention as much as the God's Eye. Also I find it hilarious that they put almost the entire last minute of the movie in the trailers for this and now that Diesel said that the next movie is going to be "from Paul" it seems like the studio is going to really try and squeeze as much out of this unfortunate situation as possible. And I know I'm in the minority on this but I can easily do without Tyrese in these movies as he brings nothing to this team.
