I saw the standup in my local theater but had no idea who the main actor was because his name wasn't on the fucking thing and I knew it wasn't top billed Seth Green. Yeah it appears they heavily implying Elvis but mixing in bits from other famous rock stories so I think you're right on with unironic Walk Hard.

Yeah they are pushing for a Sinister Six spinoff for I believe a 2016 release, though that may be up in the air after this sold like a lead balloon. I thought Jamie Foxx was the best part of the movie, but that's not saying much. At least with his character you saw that he was schizo or something along with having an unhealthy obsession with Spiderman. What didn't make sense was that when he got his powers he somehow felt he should be the center of attention over his idol, when all he really wanted was to be a part of Spiderman's life/world. And the only thing that really made me show emotion in this whole movie was the ending involving SPOILER Gwen's death because in a movie that was pretty lax on what it wanted to be as either a comedic or serious superhero movie all of a sudden as a pretty realistic killing of a major character. I thought they were going to show the web being too short and her falling out of eyesight to Spidey, but instead they show her bouncing off the fucking cement ground and then blood trickling from her nose, I can only imagine how parents were pissed at trying to discuss this with their surely traumatized kids.

This movie pissed me off on so many levels. First you have the issue that plagued Spiderman 3 in that it didn't know if it wanted to be campy or deathly serious. You have the whole familial issues with Peter and Aunt May and him stalking his ex but this is followed by a fight scene with Electro in Times Square that has a backing track of carnival music and Spiderman hosing down Electro while wearing an old style fireman helmet. The campy stuff was so over the top it was horrible and the serious stuff made me somewhat interested if not for the fact that Garfield is so much more naturally emo than Maguire was at his worst. Rhino was a ridiculous character made only for the hopeful tie-in movie with the Sinister Six, and the suit was horrible because it's basically Spidey fighting a Transformer, which is unfortunate considering some of the other designs for the suit were more in line with recent comics/cartoons and would have been plausible for the character. And considering how this movie didn't really light up the box office domestically and mixed reviews, it's not shocking that they delayed the third movie back to the year they were planning on releasing the fourth film. Also doesn't help it's the lowest grossing of the series despite IMAX, 3D, and inflated ticket prices.

Fuck, I gotta see this movie now!

Yeah I was liking it until that all happened and then it just went to shit.

Is it worse than the last third of Sunshine becoming a mindless monster movie with a character that had no chance of being alive in the first place?

Remember seeing this and just amazed at how sex was just thrown in like Denise Richard's mom getting plowed by the gardener for no reason or the fact that in the initial setup of Matt Dillon, Denise Richards so oversold the "c'mon you know you wanna fuck me after I wash this car." The twist on twist on twist ending was nuts because like Reindeer games there were so many moving parts it would have been impossible for the whole scheme to work. I think this is done in the same vein as Color of Night in that there is a nonsensical plot, abhorrent characters, gratuitous sex, useless twists, and a quick flash of one of the male leads' penis. Plus I still find it shocking that this movie lost "Best Kiss" to Shakespeare in Love at the MTV Movie Awards, when it was one of the most talked about things in pop culture at the time.

Botched "Expendables 3" Title Art
RyanSz replied to PlanBFromOuterSpace's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
I swear LL is the reverse Sean Bean. He has only died in one movie (Rollerball) but in nearly every other movie where he could have died, he has survived gigantic odds. He get nearly eaten by a shark in Deep Blue Sea but lives, fell head-first on steel steps in Mindhunters and lived, he was SHOT IN THE HEAD in Halloween H20 and lived, the man is death kryptonite. -

I forgot about Carano and Rodriguez, but Liu falls under that heading of Cameron Diaz for me in that the Charlie's Angles movies were more comedy spoof than they were action movie. She did have parts in Kill Bill and Man with Iron Fists but they were pretty small. Now that I think about it the only other current name that may work would be Uma Thurman but again that was for only a couple movies. Expendables worked because it was what every guy wanted to see in all of their favorite action stars getting together and having badass fight scenes, and the fact that they can keep adding guys to the mix makes it better, though now they are getting into stretch territory with Banderas and Lutz who have a couple action flicks to their names. It worked because guys who grew up in that era feel there aren't any real action stars today outside of a few choice guys like Statham or Li and because most studios shoot for PG-13 in regards to action in order to get the most money back on their investment. The Expendabelles is facing a HUGE uphill battle for legitimacy which I don't think it will be able to overcome. -

I don't know about the Expendebelles being anything but a trainwreck because of all the news that has come out about it from the director only having done rom-coms to the fact they are STRETCHING to find female actors in the same mold as they found male actors for Expendables. I mean there is Milla Jovovich, Kate Beckinsale, Katee Sackhoff, and now Ronda Rousey as almost sure sells for the movie, then you have older actresses that had one or two action roles like Linda Hamilton and Sigourney Weaver. They may try to go for Angelina Jolie but she would most likely turn it down and isn't as imposing an action star as she was when she was doing films like Tomb Raider and maybe even Cynthia Rothrock but it may take a bit to explain to casual viewers who she is. Yet the names I've heard listed are names that really are for kitsch factor like Meryl Streep and Cameron Diaz who are so far from peoples' minds when it comes to action movies. I can see them maybe trying for Scarlet Johansen, but I feel her dance card is pretty full with Marvel. Then on top of it they turn away from the initial idea of showing women as badasses like men in favor of them posing as escorts, there will be a shitstorm of hate on both sides for this movie. Though another Meryl Streep sex scene could be a HUGE selling point for the movie. -

That poster looks like the Chinese knockoff DVD cover. I just came back from this movie and I actually liked it despite going to PG-13, in the same way I enjoyed Live Free or Die Hard despite the rating. You can tell there are points that they had to edit down for the rating, which will most likely be shown in an Unrated DVD release, but for the most part the movie does well for being a mindless action movie. They make a couple jokes at Willis' expense like Harrison Ford telling Sly that Willis' character was no longer the CIA handler and he "wasn't in the picture anymore." The old vs. young theme of the movie is okay though the young team is made up of no-names outside of Rousey and Lutz, who are both sub-par as believable action stars. Arnold is keeping the theme of using old catchphrases all the time which is great, especially one line in particular while it seems that they gave Banderas crystal meth for his role which wasn't necessary except for comic relief. Gibson was great as a bad guy and seems to have found his current niche of being an easily hatable character actor do to his public issues. -
If you really want to enjoy this movie, watch it with the subtitles and dub on at the same time. It's "all your base belongs to us" for 90 minutes of gory glory.

The twist makes sense in that Spacey's character was such a zealot in trying to get the death penalty abolished that his friends and he would sacrifice their lives and reputations to do it. While it is a nuts ending it makes sense for what the characters were trying to accomplish. I just don't think this is crazy enough for it to be covererd as it isn't so bad it's good but rather so bad it's depressing because Spacey does do pretty well as David Gale and Kate Winslet does a good supporting role at times.

Jack, The Night Listener, or Patch Adams would be good as well.

Maisie really needs to push for a SBTB style intro for Game of Thrones. -

What I'm amazed by is that they haven't edited the original autobiography and re-released it to coincide with this movie coming out. Also I love that the Mario actor just decides to start doing push-ups while the girls battle over who's in the center of the picture. -
Now there would have been an Easter egg I would have loved to see in Crystal Skulls where not only is the Ark of the Covenant revealed in the opening scene but also a box or something listing a Howard D. or H. Duck. Would have made that movie instantly less shitty but still pretty shitty.

I wonder though how that would alter his business relationship with DC as both have been working closely together for some of Robot Chicken's specials.

I mentioned it in my first post in this thread and how the show really needs to push for a remake to be made. And I believe there was an article with James Gunn stating that it was just for laughs and that there wasn't anything really behind it, though I do feel that Seth Green is perfect for that character.

It's a hard sell in that even female comic fans are saying they want mainly male oriented stories, causing this huge split between the ones who say they like the eye candy, those that are pure comic fans, and those that are feminist who feel there should be women put into every level of the comic business, even if there is no women currently working towards those positions. Yes it is 44% women who went to Guardians, but how any movie company sees that is that there was still 56% men going or that women were going because the film seemed more comedic in comparison to prior Marvel films. They will look for any reason to downplay it, sort of like how studio math still says that Back to the Future didn't bring in a profit so that they don't have to pay the stars as much on the back end. Plus Agent Carter can be a good show, but they played it smart because they weren't sure if a movie could sell based on the love interest of Captain America. Similar to how they are doing the same for Daredevil after the debacle that was the Affleck film, it costs less and there is less damage if it fails. The other thing is with writing a female oriented story, you have a whole can of worms that comes with any comic movie, but on a scale studios may not want to touch. After the New 52 female writer controversy and the recent controversy over Wonder Woman's soon to be new writer, comic fans or industry people will look at it primarily one of two ways: a man writing a female character doesn't understand the nuances of a female character as has been the argument of many male writers today or a female writer writing on female characters will be crucified for solely being a woman as there are many fanboys who are misogynistic. Studios also use past evidence of Elektra, Catwoman, Supergirl, and other big flops for female superhero movies as proof as to why they will wait until the last feasible choice to make another female character movie. Fortunately, the rate at which Marvel is creating movies, they will have to make one, maybe within a couple years or less, but it will be under some of the biggest scrutiny. I mean there were screams of horror online for Wonder Woman's outfit, which I actually like, so just imagine what it will be like for a full on movie.

Black Widow needs to stay as a supporting role, like Hawkeye and to an extent the Hulk, because that opportunity has been ruined outside of maybe a World War Hulk film which would be Avengers 4 or 5. Widow was always a background support character and I don't feel could carry a 90 minute or more movie. The same thing for Peggy Carter and Lady Sif, which for some reason people were calling for. It's moments like that where people seem to overestimate the pull of Marvel films. Guardians was a long shot sure, but people still knew the characters and the series had some history. None of the women mentioned, outside of Widow who is getting something of a series going now, have had anything made that would warrant a full movie. While many may not like it, comics is still a man's world in regards to big characters, yet by trying to force in a film about any Marvel character with two X chromosomes, it will only hurt those people's cause as the films will come off as PC push-ins and the audience won't support them as well as other, better known properties. Since James Gunn has already said there will be at least one new member of the Guardians for the next film I'm guessing it will either be Adam Warlock since his cocoon has been shown in two movies already or Angela who has become the newest member of the current team and has been revealed to be Loki and Thor's sister, there is a great connecting point between the two teams as well as Thor 3.
-
Guardians 2 is already listed for the July 28, 2017, but it still lends credence to the idea that at least 1-2 new unannounced characters will be introduced to build up Avengers 3. My feeling is that they will be single characters rather than more teams as it will be such an overload if Avengers 3 comes around and you have the Avengers, Guardians, Thunderbolts, Runaways, Inhumans, and others all vying for screen time.

Wakanda was briefly mentioned in Cap. America two as one of the many places/persons of interest for the laser targeting system, along with Tony Stark. That along with the rampant fan clamoring for the movie makes it not a matter of if but when the Black Panther film will be made, unfortunately Idris Elba is already working on the Thor movies otherwise he would have been a perfect candidate for the role. So basically Phase 3 is building up to introducing 2-3 new characters in the leadup to fighting Thanos in an "Infinity Gauntlet" storyline. With the lineup right now being Ant Man, Cap. America 3, Dr. Strange, Guardians 2, and with Avengers 3 probably coming out in 2018 to keep in line with the three year gap between those films, there is room for one more movie in 2017 and 2018 each as Kevin Feige wants two Marvel films per year. So with those two possible openings, there could easily be a Panther movie in their along with maybe another Thor movie as Robert Downey Jr. is basically only doing Avengers movies now.
