    Trailer Talk

So I saw this trailer as an ad before a video on Youtube and it does seem like an interesting premise, especially when I realized it wasn't some hidden monster but rather alligators as the primary antagonist. If done well it could be a pretty tense thriller, but if it isn't then I think we have another great HDTGM episode on our hands.
  2. I now kind of want an alternate ending of this to be her waiting for her boyfriend in the car and she just has a single bandaid on her chest where Mary Lou came out of and he's all freaked out because of what he saw happen to her body. And she just brushes it off as no big deal in a very Rafi kind of way to healing oneself, similar to other remedies he had on The League.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8x3Zo5YKyPs
  3. They really need to cover Night of the Creeps as it's an amazing cult horror film. That's one thing I never understood about Nightmare 2 or this, in that these bodies are literally torn to shreds for the villain to come into the real world to exact their revenge, but once you look back at the character they tore through, they are back to normal as if nothing happened. While it's just in the chest in Prom Night 2, in Nightmare 2 the lead character is just strimbles of skin once Freddy uses him as a doorway, there isn't even any blood on the room surfaces.

    Avengers: Endgame *SPOILERS*

This could have gone wrong in so many ways but Marvel nailed it on nearly everything, it was fan service in the BEST way imaginable. The way that they created applause/cheer break scenes that gave the audience enough time to savor before quieting to get back to the movie is something I've never seen done so much or so well in a film, especially with the worthy Cap scene and the army reveal. I loved the return characters from so many films and the fact that 99% of them weren't just quick appearances but actually added something to the story. My only issues with the film were I found Nerd Hulk oddly disconcerting to look at, it was like they did too well with how he looked. The other was the ending for Captain America, as I just read an article that broke down all of the issues with it in concern to how the overall movie played out because it Back to the Futures almost every huge event in MCU history https://www.thewrap.com/avengers-endgame-that-last-captain-america-scene-makes-no-sense-peggy/. But even with that it still didn't stop me from giving this a five star rating on Letterboxd, this movie was just that good.
  7. So I looked up Brock Simpson's roles in all four films in this series, and each is a different character, and at least two of them die during their respective movie, I couldn't see anything about him dying in the third film so I assume that he lived. Then I saw the only reason he's in all four is that he is the producer's son, and that he only did a couple more films after the fourth Prom Night. They did continue the character of Mary Lou for the next film, but it basically ignores everything from this film outside of how she died, and the film is more of a tongue-in-cheek parody of the series so far and horror films in general. The fourth really plays up the religious leaning by having the killer be a psychotic priest who is killing horny teens, and all of these films minus the first have some connection or take place in 1957 in that same town, so shit was going very wrong there. Also, where does Kelly fall in the category of most unlikeable bitch role in horror movies that have been covered by the show? She's easily in the top three for me, alongside Judy from Sleepaway Camp and Mia from Vampire Academy in that there were zero redeeming qualities about her, she literally is smiling at the fact that there's one less person competing for prom queen after the pregnant girl is killed by the magical cloth, that is some next level assholery there.

    Hellboy (2019)

Boy talk about a misfire. This was odd from the opening shot to the end credits, with them clearly keying up the gore and language in comparison to the superior del Toro movies. DavidThe Harbour does an okay job as Hellboy, but after Ron Perlman's superb and funny take on the character, Harbour is too dry and really can't sell the jokes and one-liners. It's also weird seeing how they changed the appearance of the character, who now has long stringy hair and a thick line of chest hair that runs directly up the middle of his chest, as if they are using it to cover the zipper on his costume. The story is nonsensical with use of King Arthur and Excalibur major parts of the plot. Unfortunately that emphasis takes away from a really great segment of the film that includes utterly terrifying Lovecraftian monsters tearing through London, which really should have been the focal point of the film. There are a bunch of tweaks made to the character's origin story, basically taking the opening of the original film and condensing it to a three minute scene in order to introduce a fan-known character that's seen one time during the main movie and making all of the villains from the original film basically set trimmings as if saying "yeah our villain is WAY worse than these lame-os." It's unfortunate that this is Millenium Entertainment's first big budget theatrical release as it appears that they were swinging for the fences with it but they completely missed the mark, which is unfortunate given that there are some really well done scenes that should have been expanded upon rather than what was the actual focus. It's definitely one for the show because I was laughing at how bad various things, which isn't surprising given the news that this movie was apparently a total clusterfuck to create in the first place.

Musical Mondays Week 64 The Wicker Man

I think the idea of replacing religion with familial responsibility was a logical choice, but then they went so far into Cagesanity that made that movie a HDTGM classic. I wasn't surprised by the singing so much since that was a focal point of a lot of reviews, though I was surprised that this was an almost stag film with the numerous scenes of nude girls just dancing in the field. What's even more bonkers is that Robin Hardy would make a spiritual sequel in 2011 called the Wicker Tree that had Christopher Lee cameo. That one focuses A LOT MORE on music and religion as the main character is born again pop singer that goes to spread the good word to heathens around the world, leading her and band to Scotland where they come across the pagan cult that have similar practices as the original group.

Oh it's definitely not like Gotham. When Ennis started the series he was quoted as saying that he wanted to "out-Preacher Preacher" in regards to over the top craziness, which he did in spades. Dynamite Entertainment basically gave him carte blanche to do what he wanted and he stretched the usage of parody to its limit with his versions of recognizable comic characters. It mixed in serious topics like abuse of power and corporate corruption while mixing in what comic readers would talk about like how could a godlike being like Superman have a kid with Lois Lane without killing her or what happens to the people caught in the crossfire of those epic fights or who is paying for these super teams to operate when most of them live double lives as public servants or reporters.

    Trailer Talk

Having seen the new Hobbs and Shaw trailer, I'm starting to waver on it as it's pushing into that "oh come on" level of craziness if only for the scene of the Rock and his family lining up to battle Idris Elba's giant squad of armed and armored men, with no guns and no armor, then running full force at their enemies to fistfight them. I'm sorry but the Samoan warrior spirit doesn't hold up well to tanks and fully automatic weapons. At least with other stuff in the film it fits in that they are playing up the cartoon angle of the situation, but by seemingly playing it straight faced for this seems odd to me. On another note though, they finally put out a trailer for The Boys which looks to be a great adaptation of a batshit insane series by Garth Ennis, though unfortunately they only have Simon Pegg in a side role rather than the one based on his likeness in the book.

    Episode 211.5 - Minisode 211.5

Prom night was a weird series in that the first was standard slasher fare complete with ultimate Scream Queen Jamie Lee Curtis, but then they immediately go into supernatural horror for the next two, and followed by a final film that went back to slasher territory. They had reshot this film to make it a Prom Night film as a way to hopefully recreate the success of the first film, which while wasn't a huge hit earning 14 million, was at least profitable, but this didn't even earn 3 million, and they still made two more for some reason.
  13. Yeah I came to talk about the Dreamland episodes as well because Duchovny and MIchael McKean were perfect as the swapped characters. Oddly enoughMulder is kinda pervy in those episodes as well because he drive's to McKean's house, goes to the living room, turns on the Spice Channel, and falls asleep. This wouldn't be an issue if it weren't for the fact that there are toys all over the room showing McKean's kids are playing in there constantly, a point which his wife makes when she wakes him up the next morning as the hardcore porn is still playing loudly on the TV and if I recall Duchovny's hand is down is pants. My one question about this movie concerns the idea if they went full tilt and had the dad sleep with the wife in the daughter's body. Does anyone else think that the makers of the film would try and have the characters conceive a child in order to see if the daughter's spirit would inhabit the child? I mean in the spectrum of bizarre movies covered by this show and those that haven't, would that idea be out of place in comparison to movies like Adore?

    The Losers (2010)

It's really saying something when the plan to use the corpses of children as the decoys so the bad guys don't know that you're still alive is the most coherent and sane plan of all the ones featured in the film.

Yeah there's a big split between the studios and the original creators of the franchise. The series was basically dead after the overly campy Seed of Chucky, so the next film was relegated to straight to DVD, and the original team was brought back in to what they wanted with it. Then when Curse of Chucky came out it was a surprise hit with critics and fans as it was a back to basics horror film which led to the even better Cult of Chucky, which got a similar response. So the studio saw that success and with all of the horror remakes deced to strike while the iron was hot and make this film, without anyone from that team, while they are continuing the story from the last two films in a TV series that's currently being worked on. I'm still hoping the reboot is a good movie, but it's already been put in an uphill battle of sorts.

    Winchester (2018)

Yeah I briefly saw it in a comic shop but didn't get it as I was looking for something else, so I had to spend about 30 minutes on Amazon trying to use my scrambled memory to find it, and boy the horrible looking crap I found trying different words along with house were astonishing.

    Winchester (2018)

Yeah this ended up being a very "meh" horror film. I have taken the tour of the mansion as a kid and it truly is a sight to see the amount of work that has gone into making that place, and the tour guides give such a better story of what life was like during her building of the place. If you want a better story involving the Winchester house, read the comic House of Pennance by Peter J. Tomasi, as it follows not only the trauma she is suffering, but also some of the workers who were outlaws or deemed miscreants of the dying wild west. And you want to see a great horror film starring Jason Clarke, seriously go see Pet Sematary as it an amazing adaptation with so many more twists than what have been shown in the trailers and the performances of the four leads are fantastic all around.

    Episode 210.5 - Minisode 210.5

So as a Librarian who orders the DVDs for the collection as well as go through donations for the collection, I can honestly say this hunk of crap isn't in the collection, though I may add it as I tend to put HDTGM movies into the collection. Though I am surprised that this is the first time Duchovny has been on the show, considering some of the dreck he has starred in, not including some of his early TV work like the softcore porn series Red Shoe Diaries.

Going back to my post about the Child's Play remake, considering that Brad Douriff is not involved with this film, this is at least a decent replacement for him. https://www.indiewire.com/2019/03/mark-hamill-voice-chucky-childs-play-1202054734/.

    Us *SPOILERS*

No Red wanted Adelaide to herself and wanted to draw out her revenge for a long as she could, hence why the family isn't outright murdered by their tethers unlike every other person who comes across a tether. The tethers basically could do as they see so long as they ended up at the wall of tethers, so you see the tethers either doing their best to get a taste of the "good life" like Tex and Kitty immediately do, or go join up at the line like the homeless guy does right away, just so long as Red got her vengeance.
  21. Yeah it had been 30 minutes into the episode before I remembered that he was even in the episode. After reading through the wiki of this to get some sense again about it, it is clear that they wanted to do a sequel, because they NEVER explained what Van Helsing was seaking penance for, which were giving him those nightmares. I'm waiting for the Pope or whoever to be like "yeah dude you like massacred half of Europe before we caught you, your'e the original Dracula" or some lame shit. Also in the wiki searching it's also surprising to see how many odd roles Jackman was taking mainly because he was a newer film actor, I mean he even did the voice work for the shitty video game based on this movie and it's animated prequel. They could easily do episodes on Deception or Proof or please God Kate & Leopold.

    Us *SPOILERS*

There are some small things that I had pointed out to me through a few different videos, like from the guy who made the video I posted. Things like Adelaide 2 was a devout vegetarian, because she no longer wanted to eat meat after eating only raw rabbit, the fact that she tells Jason to listen to the beat of "I Got 5 On It" and starts snapping but she's off key, showing that she isn't fully untethered, and her fighting style is more in line with the other tethers and measured while her family are pretty much getting lucky shots in and fighting with little skill.
  23. RyanSz

    Us *SPOILERS*

The reason OG Adelade didn't scream was her voicebox had been severely damaged when she got choked out by her tether, hence her voice being what it is when they see each other as adults. As for her knowing yeah she definitely knew, but like when any kid has been caught breaking a rule we stammer and lurch trying to cover our tracks, so tether Adelade was not only trying to play coy in front of a family of non-tethers, but also fighting against reverting back to her tether-ness when seeing her real person after 30 years.
  24. RyanSz

    Us *SPOILERS*

From what I got from everything was that the tethers were meant to be the strings for the government to control people, but as was stated it in the film, it ended up reversing on them as the government couldn't duplicate a soul which seemed to be the key item to create the "strings" basically making the tethered the puppets moving based on the whims of the originals, excluding Lupita's characters who were special. My only couple questions are about logistics like how they kept receiving rabbits to eat, though I think that could be explained by the tool for cloning being left down in the facility with the tethers and they figured out how to keep making bunnies, or how all the millions of tethered were able to get the red jumpsuits, gold scissors, and gloves? Though in these instances I think it just boils down to "cuz horror movie" which I'm completely fine with, I did wonder why would the government not at least put like a baby gate in front of the escalator leading up to the real world or better yet, just terminate all the tethered when it was revealed to not be a viable control option for them? I did love reading a theory about how this is in the same universe as Get Out in that it can be inferred that the grandfather of the Armitages in Get Out was involved with the original program to create tethers, and seeing how the plan failed due being unable to replicate a soul, went about finding another way to control a body, leading to the use of neurosurgery and hypnosis that his descendants continue on with. Also, there is another trippy theory I've found about there being another body switched which actually makes A LOT of sense.

The release date makes more sense now. As for other release dates throughout the year, I love how now apparently April is in the summer movie season, when only a decade ago the season started in June. This though is also do to so many attempts at tentpole movies being released the same time as one another. There were a number of articles a few years ago that discussed how 2017 and 18 were going to be huge moments of big movies cannibalizing each other's box offices, which happened in some instances, leading to some more visible spreading out. And speaking of Jordan Peele, if you haven't seen Us yet, do so because it is FUCKING AMAZING.
