Also, I appreciate that Scott acknowledged that us message board posters have great ideas on what/who is/isn't funny.

Loved this. (Mostly) enjoyed the ads leading up to this, really loved the episode. They mentioned this in the ep and I'm sure it's been covered in the 9 pages I didn't read, but -- any good eps (RIP) to check out for first time hollywood handbook listeners?

I remember not digging her standup and then a few months later seeing constant promos/billboards with her face everywhere for her show that looked terrible. I wouldn't say I hated her but I just wasn't a huge fan and for a few months when her sitcom started (2012?) her presence was inescapable and that breeds contempt, I guess. But I liked her a lot on this ep - she got a little wacky towards the end with the olive oil/wifi radiation stuff, but the rest was fascinating. Her self awareness and drive for self improvement are commendable. She shared some heavy stuff about her past and unflattering truths about her personality without sounding all ... Marc Maron-y. Very straightforward, non-judgmental and funny.

I listened, and honestly, while pick up artists are scumbags, this guy was clearly on his best behavior and managed to be an affable guest. I felt like all the interrupting and "that's not funny" stuff was telling. pickup artist stuff is not the same as rape, obviously, but if your whole thing is "here are ways to manipulate women into sleeping with you," well, you probably want to make sure you're not associated with rape jokes (even though no one was really making rape jokes).

after you have had sex, if she likes you still, you can probably have sex with her another time. if you slept in the same bed that night, sometimes a fun thing to do is to have sex in the morning. i call this "morning sex."

also one method that works for me is to talk to a woman at a place where it's acceptable to approach a stranger, such as at a bar, or a party, or on a dating website, and try and be nice and funny, and ask invite them to a nice night out at a restaurant perhaps, or some other kind of date is fine too if you have fun. then you can flirt and if they flirt back you can tell they want to hang out again, so you do it again, maybe a few more times, and once you are comfortable with each other you can try inviting them to your place, or maybe they will invite you to theirs. then if you both want to have sex, you can, because it's a private place and you're both adults. this has worked for me 7 times.

I haven't listened to this yet. Obviously I think pickup artists are gross, because I'm a human being. Will I enjoy it? Do they make fun of him?

Kyle Dunnigan should come back and do some characters.

I thought Tig was hilarious and I didn't get an ACTUAL mean vibe from her at all - her and Rebecca are clearly (third-tier) friends.

EPISODE 76 — Adam Carolla, Comedian/Podcaster/Filmmaker

Also, he's funny when he's not being misogynistic or racist or xenophobic or homophobic. Which is increasingly rare these days. -
EPISODE 76 — Adam Carolla, Comedian/Podcaster/Filmmaker
djsexyrandal replied to JulyDiaz's topic in The Wolf Den
He sucks, but if you're going to talk about the business of podcasting, sooner or later you're going to have to talk to Adam Carolla. Like it or not, he legitimized the format for a lot of people. -
EPISODE 342 — A Silicon Valley P-Cast

Same here. I thought the Hollywood Handbook guys were hilarious, but I'd rather listen to them as proper guests, not (very funny) pitch-men. -
EPISODE 342 — A Silicon Valley P-Cast
djsexyrandal replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
Holy shit, lead guy from Silicon Valley with the best first-time appearance ... ever? The way his character's backstory developed over time reminded me of some of the best Andy Daly appearances. This was the hardest I've laughed during CBB in a while. -
EPISODE 341 — Banging the Table with Stars
djsexyrandal replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
I thought the Stars singers were great! Torquil fit in a little more than Amy. The "mum" bit started off a little awkward but I think she thought that was part of Claudia's character (which is tough to figure out if you've never listened to the show). They also saved it with callbacks, etc. I'm enjoying the variety of guests on the show. Attaboy Scott! -
Fair enough. But I still think that statement revealed a fundamental misunderstanding of how addiction works. Anyway, I don't hold it against them, like I said before, they never pretend to be experts. Also, my favorite joke about alcoholism is Norm's bit where he talks about how, compared with cancer, alcoholism must be a pretty fun disease because you get to be drunk all the time
-
and this is not to shit on dave, kyle, tig and sean at all. 90% of the podcast made me laugh, which is what it's there for. i just wish there was another voice in the mix to cover the established point of view.
-
yeah I mean they never pretend to be experts on anything, that's kinda their thing, and they're all very good at being funny which actually IS their are of expertise, but ... every so often I find myself wanting to yell at them through the podcast, which may be more my problem than theirs, but this was one of those times. If you put someone with cancer in jail, they will still have cancer. If you put an addict in jail and they can't get access to any substances, they are STILL an addict. It's recovery 101; addicts will ALWAYS be addicts, whether they are using or not. i feel like that's an important distinction they kind of missed out on.

That was a great tribute to Harris at the end of the show. Touching and hilarious. Great work. -

Congrats! Did it come out of Leno's Vajayjay? -

Colin Hay was a great muuuuuusical guest! Up there with TFF in my book. PFT and Gilly (sorry) never disappoint. C+ all around! -
Just wanted to add one of my favorite Foam jokes. "I've decided that I'm not going to get married until gay people can get married. Because I'm gay." Hopefully you've heard it too, so you can hear his delivery.

Especially knowing what we know now, he might not have been in the best of mental spaces during that exchange.
-
Fuck, man. Addiction is some heavy, fucked up shit. My sincere condolences to his family and friends. I hope the fact that so many people appreciated the great work he did is a small comfort.

Jack Antonoff was fine, guys. He was even kinda funny at times! Although he drilled the few laughs he got into the ground. But, ya know, he's a musician. Not everyone can be Tears for Fears. Also, I would be 100% ok with Horatio being on 50% of the eps in 2015.

Episode 323 — Pie Quiz with Tears for Fears
djsexyrandal replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
I'm late but this is one of my favorite episodes of the year. The TFF dudes were legitimately funny, Reggie completely nerding out was really endearing and funny and he basically did what I would have done in that situation, and PFT never fails.
