I heard Brian on some other podcasts say he was starting his own and immediately wanted to check it out. Then I heard it was going to be D&D and was double stoked.

Loving 5e ever since the "Next" playtests. A great blend of all previous editions I think, and yeah even 4th.
-
Get Steve Agee & Dave Anthony in there permanently damnit!
-
Absolutely not. The show is 100% better when they go off on ridiculous tangents, the gameplay sucks, always has.
-
Leisge Hey that fixed it. I'm using an old iPhone. Thanks.

My iTunes shows ep#91 Polish My Horn of Blasting as the latest available. Anyone else have this issue or is it just something with my phone?

Seeing this thread has some new hits I just have to repost; Troll the Dice www.trollthedice.com or just search iTuneThis has become my fave podcast. Hilarious, often drunken, D&D. U Unfortunately you can only get the most episodes on iTunes so you'll have to hit their site for the beginning of the campaign. Though they just started a 2nd game running the adventure from the new 5th edition Starter Set.

I played Advanced Dungeons & Dragons & AD&D 2E From High School til late my 20s. Came back a little on D&D 3E/3.5E. Came back again with D&D 4E to teach my kids how to play. Recently got a new group together to play. Originally we were going 4E but since we didn't want to buy a whole new set of books just went back to 3E. Honestly I think 4E isn't bad for people just jumping in. It's super simplified. That said it doesn't really give you the feel of "real" D&D. The rules are all about maxing your character much the way most MMORPGs are. (In relation to Nerd Poker this makes me really respect Gerry's characters as he seems to enjoy making oddball "flawed" characters) Also rules heavily rely on using minitures/maps/tiles/markers of some sort and that can be a hassle for some. 3E/3.5E simplified the gameplay without making it dumb and from what I understand the game Pathfinder is the same rules as D&D 3.5E carried over and expanded. I doubt anyone just jumping into D&D today would last more than one session if they went back to AD&D. *flameon

Yeah cause ya know they keep wicked tight track of things like XP and such. Not that it applies to this "game" but I find it lame when characters are allowed to level up mid-adventure. Kind of immersion breaking to me. Personally I found this episode quite boring. Work around Gerry's availability damn it! haha Oh and am I the only one who hates that damned dice tower?

Awesome episode. Blaine was on fire (on something anyway?!?) Hilarious 35mins before they even start playing, I love this style for the show!

Episode 78 — Into the Woods 2: Deeper & Darker
Chaosound replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Nerd Poker
Yeah after the crazy stat rolling; what was it 4d6 drop lowest AND roll 8 stats & keep best 6? Something like that. I can't believe he didnt allow to reroll a 1hp. Though to his credit, Ken is rping a 1hp wizard awesomely. -

Magic Missile thing has been pointed out over and over. Pretty sure this episode they actually were not rolling "to-hit" for MM, but not sure how they ended up with 4 missiles each. Maybe the party is LV7?! haha
-
They have been skipping adding bonuses since the start of the show, why change now? haha I think it's just a standard battle-axe not 2-H, but not sure. Yeah I'm all for just ignoring any rules "mistakes" they make but when the show intro says they've "been playing over a decade", that really makes me wonder how they don't seem to know some of the simplest mechanics of the game. Of course I listen for the banter not the game play anyway.

The 5th edition stuff starts to come out next month (July 2014) with a Starter Set. WotC will also be putting "Basic D&D" online as a free download. Basic D&D will have all the rules needed to play D&D from level 1-20, with some limitations on options. Basic will only include options of the four core classes; Fighter, Cleric, Mage, Rogue and four basic races; Human, Elf, Dwarf, Halfling. http://www.wizards.com/dnd/Article.aspx?x=dnd/4ll/20140527 article about Basic D&D http://www.wizards.com/dnd/Article.aspx?x=dnd/4ll/20140609 article on the Starter Set http://www.wizards.com/dnd/Article.aspx?x=dnd/news/advleague2 D&D Adventurers League - the new open play system

Episode 78 — Into the Woods 2: Deeper & Darker
Chaosound replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Nerd Poker
I strongly disagree. Sark's plodding storyline had me ready to quit listening. Since Blaine took over NP is back to one of my favorite pods. -
love that almost every post after THIS one is bitching about rules.
-
Another good time. Funny how many times the Magic Missle thing will be pointed out, don't think they care. How did Francis the mage become "Winter"?
-
Awesome episode. This is exactly what I want from Nerd Poker.

Gonchar Hammerbeard - Chaotic Good Dwarf War Cleric of Clanggedin Silverbeard Thulkoth Mortemaxia - Lawful Neutral Human Mage follower of Kossuth

Awesome episode. This is already so much more fun than "season 1". Great characters by everyone but have to jump on the Houg wagon. Great DMing Blaine!
-
I wont be listening til tonight at work but; A Good Ol’ Tavern Brawl We follow grave digger Dag Darkomen (Brian Posehn), illusionist extraordinaire Houg Denning (Ken Daly), and elusive thief Lyra (Sarah Guzzardo) as they battle a couple of drunks during an open mic in a tavern headed by Lid (Blaine Capatch) on this week’s Nerd Poker! Plus, Gerry Duggan returns to roll up a new character! this alone rules!
-
Great episode but i think this kind of screwed it up. Blaine says right at the top that it wasn't going to be in Sark's universe, then Brian makes his characters related. Look forward to hearing more from Blaine and what Gerry comes up with.
-
I'm chiming in with hope that they reroll also. I know a lot of fans (not to mention the players) have gotten attached to these characters but I really don't want to hear Blaine try to pick up where Sark left off, because it sucked. Honestly I'm very happy about this change. I was actually getting quite sick of this adventure and had started hoping that the group would stop recording play sessions and just do recaps/rants on games and other stuff instead. Looking forward to what Blaine can bring, though it is a bit worrisome that he missed so many sessions last time and is now responsible for running the game.

Yes this I was so surprised none of the players took the opportunity to crack jokes on this ... AND she wasn't even there to defend herself. Totally blown chance for hilarity.
