I was thinking the other day how few of the mainstream successful rap/hip-hop artists I actually like right now. Was reminded that J.Cole had a handful of great songs on his first album, so I'm hoping he's still in that mode and hasn't changed to something I will hate now.

Its INSANE, this guy's taint
-
He does sometimes come off like an ageless wizard who is so tired of hearing so many classics through so many eras, so it just takes something new and refreshing or with just a shade of newness to break through the barrier of pluglife and find a way into his heart

there is a God!!!! I knew there would be a Kroll episode now or soon, wasn't so sure I'd get Mulaney and George and Gil, but to say the least, this has made my HUMP WEEK

I get this awful country music TV station on my HD antenna channels, sometimes I'm forced to hear it when my fiance is having a country session. The video for "Drunk Americans" came on and I was mesmerized. One of the first lines is "we aint black we aint white" which made me go "?" in my head, so I watched the rest of the video with my eyes peeled, and among all of the paper doll humans in the video there were like 2 black people... Michael Jackson and some other celebrity, maybe Obama or Michael Jordan. Not all of the people in the video were celebrities, there were tons of random people faces, but they were almost all white hilarious for a song with these lyrics somebody put that up here please!

I could be mistaken but I think it was a Jon Daly charac, "Mall McCartney"

That country/R+B guy is completely trying to be the Drake of country. Makes everyone think you're super talented by taking half the words out of any sort of rhyming scheme and just speaking them. I'll admit its different, but better? nah

see it causes me to check out some of their music if I don't know it, sometimes I really enjoy a song they play live and then listen to it on spotify. Also, usually the musicians are funny enough that they play along with the madness in an entertaining way, so you get to leave with "oh wow that guy from _________ is pretty funny, nice guy". At its core, this is a talk show... with guests, that the host talks to... what don't you understand?

and I'm not sure when ones taste in comedy became such an important factor in liking this podcast... I mean come on, cant Scott just have all of comedy on as his guest each week? Why do I have to either already like the guest, already not like the guest, or not yet know the guest at all when I listen?! THERES TOO MANY CHOICES TO MAKE!!!!!!!

I was hoping this would be the nicky kroll episode, and then when there was the sudden mr show almost news break on who charted, I thought this could be a special ep with bob and david to announce something... turns out not as exciting as either of those possibilities, but I like Anders so its nice to finally hear him on the show

He usually enjoys prodding Howard when he makes his trademark odd word choices, but maybe he was a little more critical than he usually is

hahaha Howards comment about "Blame" by Calvin Harris being around for 3 years is so right, all these songs sound so alike! Theres some song with the guy who sings in it from a year back or so and I constantly confuse the two until the singing starts and he screams "BLAME IT ON THE NIIIIIITE" I was a bit turned off by them discussing the recent wave of dance music that brings back the feel of the early 90s dance and not mentioning Kiesza who is so 90s dance it hurts my dance bones

Episode 327 — Bang! Bang! Into Your Mouth!
StanSitwell replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
I agree, and I immediately called bullshit simply because Raj is his best friend in the comedy world. How can you hang out, work, live in comedian/comedy writer circles and not at least have smoked some pot here and there? My guess is his relatives follow his stuff, maybe know he's on CBB and will be listening, and he wants to keep up this squeaky clean image to keep getting work on family CG movies -
Episode 327 — Bang! Bang! Into Your Mouth!

ahh I really like anytime Ben is on with Scott. I get the married couple vibe from PFT, but the vibe I get from Ben/Scotty Auks is somewhat of a "we just became friends in middle school and are perfect for each other (in a friendship way)". The energy they get to is what I feed off of as I sit in my car driving to and from work, and with PFT you don't so much get that. The Solo Polo vibe would be good for sipping tea or coffee while listening on a Sunday afternoon, but Solo Bolo or Ben+Horatio vibe is more like eternal madness. No tangent is too far off, no dumb song parody is too dumb to continue, and they'll routinely say and do things to annoy each other but instead it just makes them laugh. Scott asking Horatio how he would drive to the place they are talking about, Scott pressing either of them for mundane details that have nothing to do with a story they are telling, Ben doing an annoying song in his annoying voice, Horatio slipping out of character or coming in too early, or playing with his big gulp too loudly near mic. -

No I dont think so, but she's funny in real life, so she could pull it off. I just mean characs playing the band leader for one ep at a time -
Episode 327 — Bang! Bang! Into Your Mouth!
StanSitwell replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
I was thinking last night that I'd be totally on board with Rodney Waber filling in for Reggie. I really enjoy Ben's ability to be the most annoying guy in the room to hilarious result. I think it would be great fun to see CBB established characs unsuccessfully fill in for Reggie one at a time. Throw in Waber, Wompler, Todd, Jesse the Body, Leykus, Gino, etc. -
Episode 327 — Bang! Bang! Into Your Mouth!
StanSitwell replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
I think its just called "Bang Bang" by Jessie J and Ariana Grande, with some crap by Nicki Minaj thrown in for extra measure I'd like to hear Benny Schwaz and Weirdo Scott Aukerman's full version though -

I loved Horatio's guy who isnt robert stack but sounds like robert stack from his SNL auditions. This was never on SNL right, anybody know? -
I would second the hiphop DIY era, but I dont think its a good thing. Makes it that much easier for a song like CoCo to happen, and it becoming a radio hit is just despicable since it has basically zero lyrics and could have been written by a 14 year old in his first try. I'm not a huge hip hop fan right now, my interest has been waning in the last 5-10 years, but if I were a rapper/hiphop artist, I'd be furious with the fact that songs like this and Iggy Azalea are what represents the genres at the moment. Like "CoCo" is dumber and simpler than "Because I got High" which was only an ironic "hit" people thought it was stupid-funny. "CoCo" is an actual hit and is on the radio all the time it seems now, and I think those of us that arent real fans of the genre are laughing at it, but the bulk of the population requesting it and keeping that station on think its a great song

Is there a best introductory episode to CBB?
StanSitwell replied to VajayjayLeno's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
I second the Poehler/Mantzoukas/Adomian one, and the Lizzy Caplan/Kroll/Mulaney one right around it too, those are what got me into it hardcore. After that, find a Ben Schwartz/Horatio episode, and then a PFT episode and a Andy Daly episode, any episode that Jon Gabrus has done in the last year and a half, he's always gold. There are some guests that you will always get laughs with, no matter how great or boring the other guests may be -
Episode 1521 - Paul F. Tompkins
StanSitwell replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Never Not Funny: The Jimmy Pardo Podcast
haha I'm a chartist and a bing bonger, but havent yet really delved into NNF until the somewhat recent kroll episode which I enjoyed. I'll be combing the library for guests I enjoy to start off. I've always enjoyed Jimmy P on CBB and when I've caught him as a guest on Conan, so I should listen when I burn thru my normal earwolf fare in a week -
I feel like Steven Yeun falls into this category, he isn't a super funny guy, but he's nice and pleasant and he plays along with the madness very well I think I've only listened to one episode with Jon Hamm but I hope we see and hear him again soon. He was on with Kroll, and he played along marvelously, didn't try to open too many tangents on his own, just trusted that Kroll had the chops to take them in a funny place and played Robin to his Batman nicely
-
No disrespect to Engineer Cody-Sam, but two charted isn't the same without Stard on the 1s and 2s. It just didn't have the same feel to me No vacations allowed for Brett in 2015!

so back to Steely Dan, how was the song "Bodhisattva" not brought up on the ep or here with the creepiness? The lyrics as I can hear them in the chorus include: and I'll be there shining your depends, Sparkle in your 'gina yes I'll be there

Turns out that the internet at least says the Next song "Too Close" samples the Kurtis Blow xmas jam that was on the countdown. That was a strange moment driving home for the holidays having the exact same thought as the gang, "I never knew this was a sample!!!"
