On the subject of movies adapted from other things...
Smigg replied to Quasar Sniffer's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Speaking of Video Games becoming movies, what about Need for Speed? Will that run into any of the same problems because, from what I gather, there really isn't a story in the truest sense of the word.- 9 replies

Nostalgia Critic is great. Considering they don't know the "Mortal Kombat" story, the inevitable "Annihilation" episode is gonna be amazing. Makes me wish my stand up career consisted of more than a few open mics just so I could get in on it.- 9 replies

That's the issue with adapting movies from certain things. Instead of actually adapting it, they extrapolate their own story from within it. Look at Street Fighter, the story of the movie is NOTHING like the game, they just had a movie and figured "Well, we stick Street Fighter in there, we can make more money from it". Then you have the Manga animΓ© version, and it's amazing. The problem with Mortal Kombat is, they tried to stick to the story, that is a massively in-depth and complex story, and they're shoe-horning it into 90 minutes. So, it's a double edged sword. People who don't know it doesn't know what's happening, people who do know it get mad because it's deviated from the source material too much. Speaking of Die Hard, I wonder if people who loved "Nothing Lasts Forever" by Roderick Thorpe didn't like Die Hard because it changed elements of the book.- 9 replies

Imagine a movie where the collective seed of the the Men in Black movies and the Ghostbusters movies are mixed together and carried by a surrogate, and the baby turns out to be Danny DeVito. I watched this today, this one is definitely worth a nomination.

Well, if we're talking WCW and Wrestling movies, look no further than "Ready To Rumble", where WCW pretty much forced David Arquette to become the World Champion of the company off the back of the movie.

That just reminds me of this wedding I went to, and I was placed on the fuck-around table in the corner, where they actually said "We know you guys are gonna fuck around, so you're going on the corner table", and, we lived up to our collective reputation when we kept the applause for the speeches going for about 15 minutes because everyone was trying to get the last clap.

I'll still High Five you. But I love freeze frame jumps.

Or, perhaps he flies a plane like a bird does, meaning that he can't. Sort of like saying "Does a bear shit in the woods?!" when you can do something, "Like a bird" could be "No, I can't", "Can you fix the car?" "Like a Bird", obviously, if the question is "Can you fly under your own power", then that would mean that you can... I've gotten off track here.

Yeah, and their whole rivalry is one of the staples of the story. especially when you factor in Noob Saibot. They could have done similar to what they did at the beginning of Bloodsport, and do a quick introductory montage for the characters, apart from Goro, you save him until later, and then say "The Champion of Mortal Kombat has decided to enter", and then in comes the big, four-armed motherfucker.

THE NEW MINISODE HAS BEEN DELAYED. My guess is Paul's probably drowning in all your corrections from last week's Mortal Kombat episode. - Intern Katie That's from the facebook

Did anyone else notice that the music they used after Shang Tsung was defeated is the same music as the end of Mean Girls? That means only one thing... REGINA GEORGE IS SHANG FUCKING TSUNG!!

See, I took that to mean "These ninjas be beefin', yo! But I'm a badass mofo, I convinced them to work together to whoop all y'all bitches", Sang Sum has obviously gotten more "street" in this version, which I think would have made the movie awesome.

Corrections & Omissions: Mortal Kombat

I downloaded the "Arkade Kollection" on the PS3, and the nostalgia was amazing, and Ultimate MK3 is ridiculously hard. -
I have a theory for the whole Kitana/Liu Kang "fight" where she's talking in riddles, although, I doubt they really went that deep with the movie. One of the staples of the entire franchise is the sheer amount of secrets within the game, which gives you clues on how to find them. For example, in the first game, you can fight Reptile, and they'll have him show up with clues on how to fight him, However, if that is the case (and I'm not saying that it really is), it really shows one of the problems with the movie, is the assumption that EVERYONE who watches the movie, knows the backstory. Like when Sub Zero and Scorpion are described as "mortal enemies", but it doesn't say why they're mortal enemies (Scorpion believes that Sub Zero and his clan killed Scorpion's family and clan, when they agreed to stop fighting.) So, for anyone coming into the movie cold, like Jason and June, they're not gonna know what the hell is happening.

No, it's a reference to the 'Friendship" finishing moves that were introduced in MK II http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t-0UdnIrZFU -

Oh yeah, one that hasn't been brought up, the name of the "Black Guy" who dies was named 'Art Lean", he wasn't in the games. -
The guy who played Sub Zero was actually the head Doctor in WWE, you can see him in Beyond The Mat.

The guy who played Sub-Zero (Francois Petit) can also be seen in the documentary "Beyond the Mat", as the head doctor for WWE. -
Speaking of the soundtrack, Goro's theme was composed by none other than Buckethead.

Looking at the credits, the Fight Choreographer was Robin Shou, Liu Kang in the movie. And, to take it further, in MK: Annihalation, Robin Shou's stunt double... Tony Jaa!

Highlander should be done, only if we can get a lively discussion about Sean Connery's flawless accents James Bond - I'm and English shpy! The Hunt For Red October - I'm a Russian Shubmarine Captain Highlander - I'm a Shpanish Shwordshman.

What about the other Street Fighter movie? The Legend of Chun Li.

Here's something the movie did to to the games. In the games, Kano was originally of Japanese descent. However, they loved Trevor Goddard (the actor who played him) so much, they changed the character to an Australian as a tribute to him
