Episode 151 - The 2nd Annual HOWDIES Pt. 1
Smigg replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Okay, nothing to do with what's going on here, but I have to tell people, I've just finished watching the second series of Humans, and I'm predicting that people will be hearing the name Sonya Cassidy a lot in the future, as she's just pulled off one of the best villain performances I've seen for a while. It starts in the US in February on AMC. -

Although I'm not taking part in the game, I HIGHLY recommend "Metalocalypse: The Doomstar Requiem" it's a Rock Opera that has songs from crazy Death Metal, to a Disney Princess style ballad to an electro-pop number, all the songs are fantastic This one is a personal favourite https://youtu.be/icLZR4JjsZY -
Episode 151 - The 2nd Annual HOWDIES Pt. 1

That's why I love it too. Sometimes with the live episodes, they kind of move a little too far into performance, as opposed to a few people shooting the shit about a dumb movie. Especially with some of the guests who play way too hard to the audience, which kind of derails it all. The best guest for a live epsiode (for me) was Nicole Byer on the Bloodsport episode, but I'm biased because I LOVE Bloodsport, but that episode stayed on track, she stuck to the movie, and was complimented by the live aspect, as opposed to dominated by it. With the studio episodes, you can't get much better, there's little distraction, they just talk about dumb movies, and it's perfect. -

I didn't think anything would come close to "Stone Cold" Steve Austin referring to sex as "Bom-Chicka-Wah-Wah" (although, he pronounced it as "Bew-babah-Bew-Bew") as the funniest thing I heard on a podcast this week, but this came VERY close to it. Dammit, I'm giggling again just thinking about that. -

I fucking LOVE that Shooter McGavin is in Grease 2

We are kindred spirits in our disdain for people who do that. I had to start getting my shopping delivered because every single time, I'd encounter someone stupid, not just "Well, that was dumb" kind of stupid, I'm talking about having to show the restraint of one of the Queen's Guards to not kick shit out of someone, from groups of people having conversations in doorways, to the time a guy sneezed on my neck.

What Movie Would You Choose If You Got To Guest Host?
Smigg replied to RyanSz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Rocky VI needs to be done, purely on the basis that Drago is the good guy. -
I went to see Let's Be Cops (I think, I go to a lot of movies on my own), and half way through the movie, this flash just happens in the corner of my eye, I looked over to see what it was, and it was this dumb girl taking selfies. what kind of mind must someone have to think "Hmmmm, this movie is pretty good... I'll take a selfie to show people how much fun I'm having #MOVIESELFIE #YOLO #THATGUYOVERTHEREISPISSED#"

I always liked the Corrections and Omissions theme where Paul says "YOU COME TO PLAY!!" Also, unrelated to that... DO MORTAL KOMBAT ANNIHILATION GOD DAMMIT! I'm fixing to powerbomb some motherfuckers!

Because, when we were kids, everybody hated the dick that always said "Nu-uh! I've got a force field!" This is a character based entirely on that.

In those times, marriages were primarily political unions, as opposed to loving relationships, so chances are, they weren't necessarily together through love or affection, thus leaving them open to manipulation.

The latter part of it opens up a pretty interesting idea for a movie. Wars rage on for millennia, the respective gods get together and decide that the world is better if there was one true god, so each god gathers a group of Champions, and these armies engage in full on gladatorial combat. However, when the Gods start having too much fun wagering on the lives of mortal men, shit really hits the fan, and people start to dissent against them, and then you have this massive ruck to end the movie, with the moral of the story being that you don't need to force your beliefs onto your fellow man, live a happy life enriched by following your own beliefs.

The God of War games are sort of addressing this, Kratos wrecked shit in Ancient Greece and fucked Mount Olympus up, so now he's made his way into Norse Mythology. My extrapolation is that because exposure to other areas of the world is virtually non-existant, that place is the entire world. So, you'd have the Vikings venturing out of Scandanavia, they end up somewhere they haven't been before, and they say "This place must belong to Odin too", and then whoever was already there says "Who's Odin?!" the Vikings say "The fuck you mean by 'Who's Odin?!'", they then say "You fucking heard me!", Vikings say "Fuck you, this shit's Odin's now!" the other guy's say "Fuck off, mate. Odin's having fuck all, fuck Odin", then the Vikings say "Fuck Odin?! Nah, fuck you, mate!" and then both sides say "Nah, fuck you, mate!" to each other a bunch of times, then they all say "RAAAAAAARGH, mate!!" and then they have a fight.

She's gone right on the "Massive Crush" list along with Stephanie Beatriz of Brooklyn Nine-Nine and NXT's Asuka.

Haven't heard the podcast yet, but I have to tell everybody this. The new David Brent movie is fucking hilarious.

I think the Kurt Metzger thing has really thrown a spanner into the works, that whole thing became a shitstorm, and he was pretty much the lead writer. But I think it needs an extended break, Amy's been involved in some shitstorms of her own, and it's just going through some turbulence, and Comedy Central have the axe sharpened. If it isn't outright cancelled, it'll probably take some time off for 18 months or so, and come back refreshed. If Open All Hours and Birds of a Feather can come back after nearly 20 years, Inside Amy Schumer can manage 2 or 3. Personally, if Comedy Central are swinging the axe, and having a reshuffle, I hope they go back to basics, get more stand up going, blatantly rip off BBC's Live At The Apollo, and have a bigger name as the host, introduce a couple of other acts. Like have one episode with Bill Burr as the host, and he brings on Dan Soder and Joe DeRosa. Kevin Hart has an episode with Keith Robinson and Rich Vos. It was a success on the BBC until they messed with the format, Comedy Central could have a gold mine with it, and with the US, the possibilities are endless.

So, this week, we've seen the ends of both Larry Wilmore and Amy Schumer's shows on Comedy Central. But... NEW METALLICA! YAAAAAAY!!

I'm boycotting Adult Swim because of what they did to Brendon Small and Metalocalypse.

I mispoke when I said MTV, because you're right, that is a much younger demo, I just read "Male viewers", not younger viewers. I meant that Comedy Central isn't the right channel for The Nightly Show, because it focus much more on political commentary than it did straight up comedy, and, quite frankly, "Put it on BET" would have just been "Just put the black show on the black channel". So to follow right after the Daily Show, with a similar show, on Comedy Central, replacing a beloved Stephen Colbert, it was an uphill battle from the start. It needed some seperation from The Daily Show, even if it meant putting it on just after @midnight, let it find it's feet, and then try it out in the Colbert slot, or in the Daily Show slot when Trevor Noah isn't in.
-
I was familiar with both Noah and Oliver before they made their way to the US, both of them were pretty underwhelming. Oliver, for all intents and purposes was a bust in the UK before Jon Stewart put him on The Daily Show, but you nailed Trevor Noah perfectly, he's too aloof and feels like he's above everything, which can be the death knell for comedy. And with Noah (and the Nightly Show as well), they sort of missed the point of what made their predecessors so successful, and they just felt like became snarky and condescending, as opposed to focussing more on humour. Which I feel like The Nightly Show would have been better served on MTV as opposed to Comedy Central.
