This should be a good one! Have fun, Chartists. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=awqlMyxGiiA

Fair suggestion, though I propose bringing Jake Fogelnest back for Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, which is actually streaming on Netflix now. The gang seems to like musicals, and Sgt. Peppers is way more bonkers than the intentionally over-the-top Tommy. Most rock operas are meant to be silly spectacles but the very idea of The Bee Gees making a movie out of a much loved Beatles album is crazytown. Speaking of bring a guest back -- has there ever been a repeat appearance by anyone on HDTGM? Is that a rule or something? I feel like PFT should grace us again since The Smurfs was pulled.

Good point, although I don't think any fault of Green Hornet lies on Seth Rogan; he was just simply miscast. Nobody was really clamoring for a Green Hornet movie, it was a cheap attempt to ride the coattails of superhero blockbusters. The studio was confused as hell as to what to do with the thing and put the wrong people in every creative position. Everyone involved is unquestionably talented but just not in the right role -- Michel Gondry would be far down on my list of directors I'd expect to do a proper action movie. Regarding Be Kind Rewind, the problem is really the film is built around these cute bits that should have been a web series on Funny Or Die or something. The little movies are charming and funny but they're tied together in a pretty conventional and sentimental manner; there's no actual character development, plot turns or twists, and very little drama.

Episode 67 — Baby Donut
PhillipMedoc replied to JulyDiaz's topic in The Fogelnest Files with Jake Fogelnest
Jake, you are killing it with the amazing guests lately. I was fortunate enough to have lived in Olympia during the tail end of the 1990s and got to see a bunch of great bands. Bratmobile shows were some of the most fun I ever had. I think the last time I saw them was at YoYo-A-GoGo in 2001 or so. People toss around the riot grrrl label now without really caring to understand how big of a deal it was or how complicated the movement actually was. The legacy lives on: -
That Michel Gondry, what a crazy guy, with his crazy films. But seriously -- if anything, Green Hornet is worth discussion. What a piece of junk.

Jordy was actually in a recent episode -- my favorite one so far, #63. It kind of got overshadowed by Kars 4 Kids, everything was a blur after that. -
I'm excited for this -- it's a really strange choice as a vehicle for Britney Spears. It's like they took a bunch of spec scripts out of the Lifetime TV channel's dumpster and did a William Burroughs cut-up job on them. For those of you who don't think you'll be able to tolerate the vanilla Crossroads experience, there is a Rifftrax commentary available which may help.

This is the sexiest episode of CBB ever.

Nah, it's perfectly normal for one to be happy for other's happiness. Their baby will grow up and have huge... improv skills. Plus it will make for a hilarious run of Whooch with Kremer trying to wrap his mind around pregnancy.

Bad TV: Derek/Ja'mie: Private School Girl
PhillipMedoc replied to justinmh05's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
The Birthday Boys will eventually find their groove -- they were fantastic opening for the Comedy Bing Bong tour. Mr. Show wasn't funny all the time, either; I think people tend to hold that show in high regard without remembering how hit and miss it could be. Or what about the time they made a not very great movie (Run Ronnie Run) out of a character from a sketch? Like Justin said above, almost every attempt to take a single character and place them in the spotlight fails miserably. (It doesn't stop SNL from trying, though). -
I'm kinda siding with Sean on this, although I think the film is mostly mediocre. There's certainly better horror films with female protagonists or feminist angles ( , Ginger Snaps, May, Anatomy Of Hell, etc). Megan Fox is perfectly fine and Amanda Seyfried's eyes take up much of the screen, but some of the dialogue is truly awful. Diablo Cody's trademark witticisms are just plain silly sometimes and are distracting from the movie itself. Cody's recent directorial debut looks terribly unremarkable, although I'm happy for anything that pays Nick Offerman's bills.

Bad TV: Derek/Ja'mie: Private School Girl

Gervais needs to find his spirit animal or something; he seems to be awfully cynical these days. Derek isn't very funny, but I don't think it's exactly intended to be. I tend to find it problematic when actors portray differently-abled people. The work is always much more compelling when the actors really do have the specific mental trait they're trying to portray (see: ). Looking at Stephen Merchant's resume, it doesn't really seem like he's contributed to anything nearly as funny or interesting as his work with Ricky Gervais, so I'm not so sure. To be honest, I've never found any of Gervais' work worth watching except for the original run of The Office. -
Karate-Robo Zaborgar (2011)

Tetsuo: The Iron Man is a work of genius gonzo filmmaking. The effects and atmosphere that Shinya Tsukamoto was able to create with no budget are just amazing. It's a shame that movie hasn't received recognition from Criterion or someone better able to put together a better transfer than Tartan -- their DVD is terrible. -
"Staying chaste while being chased" is possibly the best pun in this whole thread. Well done. Emma Watson is great casting, but the movie would never be finished because Jason would be straight jerking it the whole time.

Fogelnest Files named one of AV Club's 10 Best of 2103
PhillipMedoc replied to EarBear's topic in The Fogelnest Files with Jake Fogelnest
Congrats and thanks for the hard work, Jake (and Earwolf crew). I've only recently discovered your show and it brings me a huge amount of joy; your age and interest in alt-pop culture are similar to mine and so this show is like hanging out with an old friend. Looking forward to continued weirdness. Bring the show on the road, come up to Portland sometime! -
And now that we've introduced the bullshit supernatural sequel (holla, PlanB), we can have: Nundercover 7: Space Nun* The Nun wakes up from cryogenic sleep 200 years in the future in a facility with other Catholics deemed too sexy or dangerous. Unknown to her, it's actually the orbiting lab of a corporation developing military technology that has been experimenting with gene splicing and attempting to clone the perfect Nun soldier. The Nun is about to face her toughest opponent yet -- herself. Tagline: NUN WILL SURVIVE. *sorry, can't think of a good pun.

You said "I feel like he should be in something else, but looks like that's it.", which I read as dismissive -- I didn't realize you were saying that you thought he was in another HDTGM film. That makes sense. I liked LA Story a lot when I was younger; I should rewatch it sometime and see if it holds up.

So glad they pointed out the Da Vinci/Zouks resemblance. Side note: is it safe to assume that both of the live episodes will be released? It'd also be nice if Paul's holiday spectacular was recorded and sold on the Earwolf store. (I'm so jealous of any of you in the LA area, but only for the comedy scene -- you can keep the rest.)

Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of The Crystal Skull (2008)
PhillipMedoc replied to mdrew1120's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
Agreed on all points. The stories have always been silly and pulpy; the thing that irritated me about this one was that it was, after the first act, essentially a retread of the first Raiders film with the alien skull standing in for the Ark. And I felt like they were actually way too on the nose with the "I'm too old for this" jokes. I guess that's what made the whole thing feel unnecessary; it was 19 years after the last movie! If they thought they could continue the franchise, this was not the best way to introduce it to a new generation -- maybe that's why Shia LoBoof was cast ("Hey, kids like Transformers, right?"). It could have been worse, Lucas could have tried to keep pushing Hayden Christensen. Is there a hot young thing? Younger and hotter than Ryan Gosling? It seems like with the flood of superhero films we're returning to a hunky kinda Hollywood guy. Chris Hemsworth is melting some theater seats, for sure. -
What?! How about Withnail & I? How To Get Ahead In Advertising? Those are high comedy classics. He's a terrific actor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mJQHdhjQXgg

Yes; that's exactly the feeling I got while watching it. There's bits that work on their own and some of the performances are enjoyable -- Danny Aiello is great and Richard Grant is always enjoyable. But when it's put all together, the tone is all over the place; it's never really a musical, comedy, or action film (it does none of those well enough) and the camp just isn't dialed up enough. I think Bruce Willis is just plain not a great actor and with a better lead, maybe Michael Keaton or someone who could really sell the role and not just resort to smirking all the time, this could have been a better movie. It seems like no one involved knew exactly what kind of film they were making.

Pulak! Oh dear. This is the most random list of holiday songs ever. That Adam Sandler song is so damn stupid but when he did that on SNL (on Weekend Update, I think) it made me and my brothers crack the hell up. It was fun having Retta on a show where she got to enjoy herself, rather than making her watch a movie she hated (Spice World on HDTGM).

Submit your HDTGM T-Shirt Designs HERE!
PhillipMedoc replied to Gabe Danon's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I would totally screen print it myself, but I'm an amateur and have only done single color shirts (it's pretty easy). I'd be more than happy to contribute to make that happen. Maybe we could contact the dude at Shirtnerdery who made the Summah t-shirts for Who Charted? With the permission of the designer, of course. -
I listen to almost every Totally Married episode and most Totally Laime eps, but I have always gone to her website and downloaded them instead of here on Earwolf -- I guess because they're both in one spot and I just have my morning routine of going to five or six different websites and grabbing the usual assortment. I didn't even notice Totally Laime was here until a couple of months ago. For whatever reason, I was totally unaware of the Earwolf Challenge. Wow, that's a crazy forum to dive into. I really can't believe all the negative comments in there. Great episode, love Jimmy Pardo, gracias.
