    Episode 83.5 — Minisode 83.5

First of all, thank you for all those podcasts and the best of luck in this new chapter of your life. I love this podcast, so I'm obviously a little bit disappointed by the reduced schedule, but I get it. There is multiple bad movie reviews podcast and I listen to this one because of the cast. If I have to choose, I choose a lack of quantity instead of a lack of quality. About the next episode, I can't tell if I'm more angry that I'll have to watch No Holds Barred, or more ashamed that I'll have to watch it... again. For once, I am happy that we keep the discussion around the movie so I won't have to rewatch Zeus wrestling in the WWF. About the letter... this is one case where going anonymous really hurts the argument. "I used to do this and this for the podcast, but there is no way for you to know". I also like the knee-jerk reaction. This is someone who love the podcast enough to have a financial investment in keeping it going, yet, the reduced schedule is enough to completely quit the podcast. For some people, it's all or nothing I suppose. And on this. It's time to Rip'em!

    Episode 82 — Double Team

I've seen quite a few Van Damme movie (stopped counting, probably over 20) and the movie studios always dealt with his accent in one of the three following ways: 1- He's not American (in which case, every other country is a good answer, it doesn't matter whether or not the accent match the country). He played Belgian, French, Russian, Hong Konger and French-Canadian characters (Louis Burke in Death Warrant is from Quebec) 2- He's an American, we gave him an American name, and no one in the movie will even question why he has this accent. 3- He's a cajun from Louisiana. Luc Devereaux and Chance Boudreaux are cajun characters, which is the middle ground studios used to jsutify the French accent while still having an American as the hero.

Or his Hard Target, as they went up to using the same lead actor.

    Episode 81 — Mortal Kombat

It's awful and boring too, but it would probably be a little better than King of Fighters for the podcast because it takes quite a while before the kicking people in the face part starts. Lots and lots of exposition to make fun of in the first part of the movie. Overall, not a great choice either. Unless they really just want to torture June into madness.

    Episode 81 — Mortal Kombat

The King of Fighters movie is neither interesting enough nor bad enough for a good HDTGM. It is mostly boring, even for someone who played multiple installments of the game. I think it was a straight-to-Blu-Ray and if it wasn't, it definitely has the feel of one.

He can always say no. It seems it's that simple. All that time, any contestant could have just said no. None of the guys that have been killed by Goro thought to just say no.

    Episode 81 — Mortal Kombat

Other points I like about this movie: - I like the absolute lack of urgency in Raiden's voice. If they lose the Tournament, he failed as protector of the Earth and Earth is essentially invaded and destroyed. They also lost the last 9 tournaments, which is to say that whatever he was doing before wasn't working. Yet, he provides no actual tips or training, he talks in riddles and admits right before the tournament that his team is not ready. - On the same subject, Liu Kang is called the chosen one, which seems to imply that there was some kind of prophecy that he would come along and save the day after the 9 previous defeats. So, that means that for the 9 previous generations, they took the best warriors on Earth and send them to slaughter, knowing in advance that they would not win and would all be killed, which would also provide souls for Shang Tsung, therefore making him more powerful. - There must be some kind of rule about only helping people only by talking to them in riddles. Probably that if you tell them right away, that's cheating, but if you give them a riddle, even a shitty one, it's okay because they found the answer by themselves? Kitana says to Liu Kang something about using the element that gives life. At that point, she might just say water. And yet, Liu Kang is so dumb that he doesn't get it right away and she has to show up during the fight with Sub-Zero to remind him of the riddle and then he gets it, because that's the only thing that's nearby! "The element that brings life? I don't know I only got this bucket of water right here.... wait a minute..." - When Johnny Cage leaves the set after the missed take, the Spielberg wanna be tells him something like "Come on, Johnny, this is the last day of shooting, don't do this to me." I like that they take the time to set up that this is the last day of shooting, because although Johnny Cage is the kind of guy who would leave a promising movie career to go fight in a tournament to the death in the middle of nowhere, he wait until the shooting is done and saves the Earth on his own time. - Shang Tsung spends a whole scene warning Goro and Kano not to let Kitana talk to Liu Kang under any circumstances. This is the worst thing that could happen. Yet, 10 minutes later, he sets up a fight between Liu Kang and Kitana! I suppose that this 10 minutes was absolutely crucial. There is so much to talk about in this movie.

    Episode 80.5 — Minisode 80.5

It's weird because they get it right in the first fight, and it all went to hell after that. They use it as a catchphrase when it doesn't apply and when there is an actual flawless victory (Johnny Cage over Goro), they go to a different catchphrase.

Probably right next to the one doing "leg sweep, leg sweep, leg sweep, leg sweep leg sweep, leg sweep, fatality, flawless victory"

According to IMDB (Box office Mojo does not have data for it), MK:Annihilation's budget was bigger than the original ($18M for MK and $30M for MK:Annihilation). Tons of things went bad for this movie (since it's only two years between the two releases, it's fair to assume the second movie was rushed after the success of the first movie), but they did get more money.

    Episode 77 — Hudson Hawk

In the podcast, they mentioned that Da Vinci wanted to make a machine that turned lead into gold, but it was stated in the beginning that he wanted to turn lead into bronze because he wanted to finish his statue and a war made bronze very difficult to obtain. It was an accident that the machine turned lead into gold and that would be why Da Vinci dismantled the machine and broke the crystal in pieces. This is even weirder than changing lead into gold because bronze is not a pure metal, it's an alloy, usually copper and tin. Basically, Da Vinci's plan would have been to use a crystal to transform one element into two elements with the right proportion. I'm not good with Renaissance warfare, but wouldn't lead be as difficult to obtain as bronze during wartime? Da Vinci lived in 15th-16th century. they already had cannons and probably early muskets around that time, no?
