    Episode 106 β€” Shrimp Curtains

Are you? It seems like the relative scales keep changing, but if a back stab becomes a lower-back stab that seems like an exaggeration...

    Episode 106 β€” Shrimp Curtains

Wow, these guys really are missing Sarah's voice of reason, get why you fight dogs when they're attacking you, but have a feeling she would have been the one to say "Uhh, any reason why we think a housecat, giant or otherwise, is really a KILL-ON-SIGHT threat?" More evidence our "heroes" are the bad guys in this campaign...

    Episode 326 β€” 2014 Holiday Spectacular

I will say, it went a different direction, but I do wonder if a news guy coming and saying he wanted to do a story about a podcast but only "if it bleeds" was at least partially a comment on the "Serial-has-invented-podcasting" mainstream-media narrative... might be reading too much in though.

    Episode 326 β€” 2014 Holiday Spectacular

Glad I'm not the only one. Though honestly, the "healthy" claims from NatureBox are pretty bad too (hint: Step one of the typical American's path to healthier living isn't "make snacking more convenient," however "organic" or "natural" those snacks might be).
  5. I actually like the case closed, but would like it even better as its own podcast. I enjoy funny stories and improv, and I enjoy the confrontation, but the mood I'm in that makes me want to listen to one and the other are often pretty different, which is probably part of why i4h eps often pile up in my podcast list, because I have to wait until the two moods coincide... I guess what I'm saying is in my world, i4h and c/c are two great tastes that don't always go great together.
  6. But what stands is that whether she meant it, she said it, and that in itself is problematic. It demonstrates a common misunderstanding (and frequently, among the people you hear this from, a willful misunderstanding) of what feminism is, which among other things seriously undermines the credibility of someone claiming to be a popularizer of social sciences. I don't think it's derailing to call that out.
  7. Uh, dude, I don't think you were supposed to hear any of those parts...

    Lack of direction

Or maybe others, like me, continue to enjoy the show a lot, but have gotten so sick of the unremitting "make it like it was before performers' real lives made this free podcast change slightly" negativity that has taken over the discussion that we've become more and more disengaged from the forums...

    Lack of direction

Not sure how you can say someone was a star who was gone as much as not from day one. I think it's easy to romanticize and forget that Gerry's long absences have been a part of the show all along; recall how short-lived El-Ryan was, and how long it was before Sir Richard came on the scene. "Don't forget Gerry" in the intro was a bit ironic from day one...

    Episode 97 β€” A Butt Goes Forever

This week on Monsters and Molestation with Brian Posehn and Friends! (PS, always use toys with some kind of flanged base for anal play for just the reasons discussed, The More You Know)
  11. Technicality no down boo over! Do you mean to imply Stillwater's Bearcat scanner has some kind of asymmetrical-hair-seeking technology?
  12. He's not the World's-Best-Podcast-Guest-in-Perpetuity-and-Across-All-Universes-Extant-and-Possible for nothing...
  13. YES! They always sound fake to me, one time I heard a NB product name on in an ad on one podcast and assumed it was the host riffing a joke until I later heard the same on another podcast (to be fair, the first podcast was one with a history of , link NSFW)...
  14. But that's the thing, I doubt someone would say that in your (somewhat ridiculous) curtain hypothetical, they would just tune out because it wasn't entertaining. For that matter, a comedian whose material was all curtains would not get very far, as there's not a lot to work with there. When Esposito does comedy about "her lesbianism," as code for the enormous topic of her entire romantic life and much of her social and political life, she is able to keep it fresh and continue to be very funny (both in my estimation and apparently in a few others', as evidenced by her success) because that's a LOT of territory. (As Scott pointed out above, I could name a lot of straight comics whose material is all about their dating life, their married life, or their kids, which is pretty much identical territory to what falls under the so-called "lesbian material" umbrella.) And sorry to say, but "I'm okay with gay comedians as long as their material is not too gay" is in and of itself incendiary, both on its face and in the implications it carries along with it.
  15. Uh, yeah, you kind of would be. Seriously, some people need to learn to put down the shovel. Look, first off, as has been mentioned above, Esposito's "constant reference" to her sexuality isn't that far out of line with the invisible constant reference to the heterosexual norm in society as a whole. And second, even if she does talk about it more than that (not a point I'm conceding), so fucking what? A lot of comics have topics they spend a lot of their time on, and when a person's personal life subjects you to scorn and threat of physical violence in the culture at large (and while things are getting better on that front, do not fool yourself into thinking we're in some magic post-homophobia world) it's not that surprising that that person might fixate on the subject, if nothing else because of the power in being visible and vocal in the face of a society that would rather you just shut up about it. And in the end, if it upsets you that much, I'm sure you know what that square button on your player does.
  16. What I really want to know is, did Professor Stealwater buy his pyramid through Ice-T's Pyramid Scheme?

Episode 94 β€” Let Him Use His Illusion!

Extended absences and line up changes are pretty common and probably inevitable for podcasts with more than two or three indispensable people involved (cf. Professor Blastoff on this network). All things considered, they've done a fine job carrying on with who's available when. Also, it's not like this is the first long Gerry absence (recall how long it was between Ell Ryan's untimely demise and Sir Richard's appearance). He has always been an intermittent member of the party at best. This isn't some breakdown of Nerd Poker, it's just the reality of a mature podcast with six regular players. It'd be one thing if it were a choice between the way it always was and the way it is now. But the honest truth is, the more realistic choice is between the way it is now and the gang deciding to hang it up and call it quits. And I know what I choose.

Episode 94 β€” Let Him Use His Illusion!

Also just realized that even though his was the first ep in ages where it never came up I still have "Feels So Good" stuck in my head after listening. A permanent association has been formed.

Episode 94 β€” Let Him Use His Illusion!

I took that as "don't hold your breath and maybe when/if the time comes he'll roll up fresh rather than stepping in to Winter." Other notes on the ep: -My grandfather was a 3M retiree and used to send us giant boxes of random shit from the company store, often test versions of products not yet available to general markets. I think that compulsion to send random product to anyone you can think of is somehow hammered in at hiring. -More convinced than ever, our heroes are definitely bad guys. Not important bad guys, just small time thugs, but still. -I really hope some day in the future Sarah finds the notation "Axe Mountain Blast" on her character sheet, has no memory of this episode, and the whole gang has to stop down to try to find an "Axe of Mountain Blast" in the enchanted weapon tables. -Fantastic episode, you all are doing everything right. Yes, Blaine's DMing style is not a cooky cutter of Sark's; Blaine is a bit more cartoonish and haphazard if a little undirected, while Sark was more plotted but also sometimes plodding. Everyone has their ups and downs, and I'd much rather hear a variety of DM styles rather than have Blaine try to mimic Sark's style in some misguided attempt to maintain the "tone" of the podcast. Don't listen to the whiners who come and register an account just to complain, this is fantastic.

Yeah, I guess I have a C+ sense of humor, because the elevation/repetition cycle had me cracking up every time.

Seems like a pretty long leap, I'll believe it when I see it (would be cool though).

Episode 93 β€” Eye of the River of Ants

I love what Telfer is bringing to these last few eps--both in gameplay and in goofs. I especially like his very deliberate problem solving style and spot on observational questions. Definitely bring him back as often as he's able. Also the body noises breakdown had me laughing like some kind of lunatic.
