I'm kind of sad that Star Trek: TNG is not something in Zouks' wheelhouse. Zouks, you and I have been doing so well. "They're here!" I really want to go out drinking with June. She's like the wacky sister I never had.

Some of my favorite moments on HDTGM have involved Jason getting Donald Duck-level frustrated with something (the epic "*Where* *are* *the* *peas*!?!?!" being the perfect example), and considering how confounding this movie is, I figured we'd be in for that. And then it didn't happen. I think Jupiter Ascending may have broken him. This did fix very firmly in my mind what the live episodes with PFT established: if one of them is missing, they need to bring in someone else to get the total up to four. The energy is just kind of off when there are only three.

How much will you judge me if I say I have Leann's version on my iPod?

Mantzoukas Moments
starri replied to firsttimecallerlongtimelistenr's topic in How Did This Get Made?
I think my favorite moment of Jason antagonizing the audience at the live shows is from No Holds Barred. "If you haven't seen this movie, go fuck yourself. There are a lot of movies where, you know what, you don't have to see this, or we took the bullet for you. Stop everything. LEAVE THE THEATER RIGHT NOW!" But the top of my list is his "Where are the peas" rant from Jack Frost. -
There are a lot of times where, if I didn't know how much Jason clearly adores June, his treatment of her would really bother me.

That's me every other Friday on the subway. I feel you.

Skype June is definitely an improvement over No June.
-
Apparently, the producers of the Netflix Daredevil listened to the episode, as they appear to have taken June's suggestion that Matt get his powers from just being really dedicated to being blind.

The feminine napkin discussion came up when I was on the subway, and I was laughing so hard, I think the majority of the people in the car with me judged me mentally infirm.

I know it's unfair to complain about a free podcast, and I know that June has been off working and/or doing promotional stuff for Unfinished Business, but the June-less episodes are missing a certain je ne sais quoi. Zouks' continued calling anyone who floated an insane theory about the movie "June" helped, and I still laughed, but still. Also, if she's not at the New York shows, you may hear audible weeping from me.

I must be dead inside.

An hour of June free-associating her way through Zardoz? [Zouks]Yes, please![/Zouks]

Jim Varney all the way. No, I'm just kidding. My vote is for Dolly.

"That would be some kind of strange, vaudevillian...I'd watch that." "Trained butterflies? I'd wager to say EVERYONE would watch that."

Nick Kroll:Stallone::Pete Holmes:Pacino I loved June's giggling during the new theme.

I think Michael Beck has developed a decent sense of humor about his place in movie history. I can't remember where, but once upon a time I read an interview with him where he mentioned that The Warriors had opened a lot of doors for him in Hollywood, and then Xanadu promptly slammed them all shut again. I love The Warriors and while I'm never quite sure if it's actually a good movie or just a cult movie that has a great concept behind it that's at least competently executed, I remember his performance as being fairly good, although James Remar and Lynne Thigpen (RIP, much respect) are obviously the ones who stand out. I have to fault the guy who gave "XanaDon't" as his alternate title, because there was an off-Broadway musical called "Zanna, Don't!" that ran about ten years ago. Although I may be the only HDTGM listener who would know that. Also, like almost all of the live episodes, this one made me laugh until my sides hurt. It's been a truly crappy week, and I really needed that, so Paul, June, Zouks, and Michaela, my heartfelt thanks. Does the soul who created the Bingo card have it online anywhere? I've been trying to imagine what's on it, aside from "'And That's Just about The Point where I Came,'" "Insane June Theory," "Luke's Sister from Gilmore Girls," and "Pacino Impression."

"She's a Business Muse." And with that, June won the episode.

Ryan Gosling's directorial debut is bypassing theaters and going straight to home release. Ordinarily, I'd say, well it's an actor's vanity project, no question about how this got made. Then I saw the trailer. I'mma go ahead and channel Zouks here: I ask you, what IS this?

Le Bon. Simon Le Bon. I must be the only person who doesn't love "A View to a Kill"'s theme. And also the only person in the world who liked a-ha's theme to "The Living Daylights."

I don't think I've ever gotten so many laughs out of HDTGM, not even during No Holds Barred. Between the Monkey Shines callback from Jason and Paul ("As long as the butterflies are credited properly") to the fire truck discussion, to the bit about the contractors who make the map tables...

...or that.

I might be wrong about this, but I think it's because twenty minutes is an enormous amount of time for a movie bomb. Generally a Red Digital Countdown gets at most five minutes to make it as tense as possible. There should be more blimps in movies.

"No, there's an old man in there!" I heart June.

There are a surprising number of a)Christmas-themed horror movies, and b)terrible Christmas movies. There are so many things in there that we could follow up with: the other Jack Frost, more of Jim Varney's oozing sexuality, Hulk-a-mania, brother.

How about the excruciating Tim Allen/Jamie Lee Curtis classic Christmas with the Kranks. It's about as cynical as Deck the Halls was.
