Episode 163 — Eric the Paid Intern Returns: LIVE at the UCBSunset
myhandleonearwolf replied to JulyDiaz's topic in improv4humans with Matt Besser
God I love this show. Matt called it the best podcast in the universe so much that I'm conditioned to really believe it these days. And regarding music... what the fuck? People don't have a problem with them sitting there watching a YouTube video ON A PODCAST but they're annoyed with actual music? I bet the real issue here is the fact that they can't get their quirky Twitter handle read out loud by Matt when it's a musical episode. -
Can't imagine that actually lights their fire enough to keep doing it. In reality, they just post as many instances of a topic they can copy/paste from Reddit. No point in tossing out a few to make it a round number, right?

Episode 151 — Joey Cape’s One Week Records

I usually love the musical guests, but that acoustic-electric DI tone combined with the tired style of strumming brings back too many nightmares from my twenties sitting through open mic nights to support my friends. -
Episode 17 — Songs of Innocence

Was this anti-anti-comedy? They actually just sat there and talked about U2 the whole time as if any of us give a shit. U2 and Apple are just shallow marketing campaigns for old white dudes to get rich with. Go back to gross anus jokes. I can understand Scott being interested in this fiasco since he's venturing into marketing with Midroll, but why on earth would anybody care what Adam Scott thinks of the hook in track 3? -

Hearing that Comcast cancellation video in a comedy setting and Matt saying he'd be good at improv made it click in my head that the guy calling to cancel has to be Nathan Fielder. -
"We should explain to Jay what 'Gu Cruise' is!" "Agh..."

What is the callback for "no host radio"? I can't place it.

"When you sing along to your own voice, in a way it's not as fun because you don't hear anything" is so insightful. -

That Q&A supercut was like the "100 lashes!" scene in The Proposition. We got it after the 3rd or 4th clip, by minute 5 it was downright torture, and by the end I loathed Paul's voice so much that I can't go on with the podcast. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9WKX75IVL-g -
Episode 87 — Easy Rider 2: The Ride Back
myhandleonearwolf replied to JulyDiaz's topic in How Did This Get Made?
Guys. This movie was sourced by a cult that took over a small town in Oregon. The story of the commune is just out of this world insane, using salmonella to poison the population and growing in numbers from immigration fraud: http://impact.oregonlive.com/rajneesh/print.html?entry=/2011/04/part_one_it_was_worse_than_we.html Somebody submitted it to Reddit yesterday and then this comment happened: "Man, I've got the greatest story ever about these people. I was writing Hollywood screenplays a dozen years ago and my partner and I got hired to write Easy Rider 2 – the sequel!" Freddie Prinze Jr. Variety articles where Coppola and Scorsese condemn anybody working on the project. Fired for suggesting it end with a 6 week orgy at their now-in-Alabama compound. Enjoy. -
I know I can grab each individual show's feed on Soundcloud, and most of the episodes get announced on the Earwolf Tumblr, but is there just a general RSS feed that has every episode and links to the Soundcloud download? I'd rather not have stuff like Mike Detective sitting in my feed reader getting flagged as a possible URL error because it isn't ever updated, but I don't want to miss out if a new episode comes out! Unfortunately I couldn't search the forum for RSS because of a 4-character minimum, and "feed" is too broad.

The psychological appeal of Kickstarter is that a project CAN get made if they reach a certain point. People won't feel like they just wasted their money if it reaches the goal and money gets taken out of their bank account. The project managers agreed that the level they set was adequate, and most of them have promises above that (for instance, a game will add a new map for every $5,000 over the minimum they earn). Fans share Kickstarter links because everybody benefits if you work together to reach the goals. It becomes a game. IndieGoGo, on the other hand, is just a donation service. If you put in $20 and the campaign only gets $500 total you're going to feel ripped off, because that isn't enough to even start most projects and there obviously wasn't any appeal for it. -
Yeah that was pretty out of touch with reality. Video games get the same treatment. Before that it was rap music. Before that it was dancing.

That Cards Against Humanities ad might be the pinnacle of Kulap being obnoxious and unfunny during ads. I never thought I'd find such a concise example. -

I honestly can not fathom how somebody can do a Hulu+ trial and decide "Yes, this is totally worth $9/month". I hope Hotwives comes out on DVD or something. -

I went to visit a friend of mine in New York a while back and he was telling me how the guy from Midtown has been badgering him to come play guitar for a song he wanted to submit for the Snakes on a Plane contest. Seemed hilarious at the time, especially since his last band was an earnest screamo band called Kite Flying Society, but then they won. And got famous. And toured. For years. Calling themselves Cobra Starship. And I haven't seen him since -

It's a pretty well-known anecdote in recording circles. It's kind of one of those VH1 Classic Albums kind of factoids; Bono would take an SM58 and hang out in the control room (rather than the live room with the rest of the band or a vocal booth) and belt out his weird little oohs and aahs, and I'm sure some engineer insisted he kept that track rather than a more polished one on some song like Sunday Bloody Sunday. Edit: Guess he used it more often than I thought. Not all that surprising for a touring band vocalist to be more comfortable holding a microphone up to his mouth while his band plays loudly instead of singing into a pop filter in a little vocal booth with headphones on. http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/1994_articles/mar94/u2robbieadams.html http://www.soundonsound.com/sos/1997_articles/jul97/flood_u2.html -

Really liked Doug in this setting! Doug Loves Movies and Comedy Death Ray got me hooked on podcasts, but lately it seems like Doug is burnt out on it, so it's good to hear him putting forth some effort!
