Episode 163 β Eric the Paid Intern Returns: LIVE at the UCBSunset

Honestly if I could go back in time I would probably tell the Beatles that their concept for Let It Be isn't going to work. -

Crust can be so good if you do something interesting with it, like stuff it or turn it into nachos. A boring crust is just a bit of a missed opportunity imo. I liked the angry trumpet fighter segment, tend to skip past the rest of the case closeds and go straight to the improv parts at the end. I don't like listening to people argue, it frustrates me and gets me worked up which is the opposite of what I want from a comedy podcast. -

I didn't like any country music before I started listening to this podcast. Except for Tallest Man On Earth maybe. Please keep booking good country music Matt. If you can list like half a dozen good artists that would also be muchly appreciated. -

Whilst true, most sociopaths develop strong and rigid systems of ethics that allow them to function in normal society. A lot of lawyers are supposedly sociopaths which makes sense, seeing as they have the advantage of not feeling bad when things don't go their clients way or when they are defending someone who is an awful human-being and the law is a clear cut system of rules not some emotionally motivated idea of what is fair and unfair. A sociopath of this type is likely to completely lose their shit if someone breaks one of the unspoken rules of human etiquette or interaction i.e. if someone cuts in line at a cafe or whatever. Larry Davids character on Curb Your Enthusiasm could be considered a sociopath, though he would never harm someone he lacks any empathy for others and is obsessed with rules and people following them. The overwhelming majority of sociopaths fit into this mould and are therefore relatively harmless. The sociopaths without ethics, that go on to become serial killers and rapists are the outliers. -
Wohoo! They used my catch-phrase! I haven't been this excited since Bono wrestled me naked in the shower!

Episode 314 β Yβall Heard Any of These Names Before?
Thedge replied to JulyDiaz's topic in Comedy Bang Bang
This used to baffle me. I had a friend who would constantly be going on about how things were 'gay' and turning his nose up at them. My shirt was 'gay'. A song would come on the radio and he'd turn it off because it was 'gay'. He didn't watch certain television shows because they were 'gay'. I confronted him about it and explained that none of these things can be gay because they don't have sexual organs, genders or the ability to be attracted to anything. He said that he meant that they were the kind of thing a gay person would like, which was again baffling to me. What did it matter if they were the kind of thing a gay person might like? That just means that this theoretical gay person he'd created in his mind had good taste. Long story short, he was a homosexual and deeply ashamed / closeted about it, so whenever he saw or heard anything that he thought a gay person might like he had to distance himself from and criticise it lest anyone suspect him of being gay. People who are comfortable with their sexuality don't worry about this kind of stuff, they just like the stuff they like and dislike the stuff they dislike. I still think about this all the time when someone says something is 'gay'. -

I've only started listening to Improv 4 Humans over the last couple of months and it has really helped me get through some difficult stuff I've had to go through in that time, what with losing my job, my relationship falling apart and my father passing away within a very short period of time. I just wanted to thank Matt Besser and everyone involved in the podcast for providing some positivity and humour in my life at a time that i really needed it. I know it's silly and lame to say that a podcast has had any significant affect on your life, but you guys have really helped me deal with all this shit a bit better. Thank you, keep up the good work.

Episode 142 β LIVE from the Blue Whale Comedy Festival in Tulsa
Thedge replied to JulyDiaz's topic in improv4humans with Matt Besser
It's happened to other comics who have been on the podcast in the past. My theory is that the longer they stick with one scene the more likely it is for someone to say something totally absurd or out of left-field which demands to be followed up and sometimes Matt already has an idea of the direction he wants the sketch to go, so he'll jump straight to the next scene based on the idea he wanted to build on instead of letting the first scene go on too long and risking the sketch having to go in a completely different direction. Of course I could just be reading into it too much. It would be interesting to hear Matts explanation. Has anyone who has seen i4h at a live show know if Matt or whoever it is that initiates a scene signals to the other comics that a scene has begun? There's been a few times during the intros where someone has said something that I thought was the start of a scene but turned out not to be and I was wondering how the comics don't make that same mistake. -
Episode 141.5 β Bonus: Best of Vol. 5: The Nasty Hits

This was great, the Anushole sketch had me in stitches. That video was pretty hard to listen to though, makes me embarrassed to be Australian. I knew a lot of art school kids when I was younger. These kinds of self-important gross-out performance artists are the worst. There was one insufferable narcissistic chick who some of my friends knew who sat in a gallery whilst people spit on her. Calling this stuff art is offensive to real artists who take pride in their discipline and create beautiful work. It just gives talentless people who want attention what they want in my opinion. -
