    Episode 170 - Bratz

Paul was describing the Bratz theme-ish song as being "gospel sounding" but to me it sounded like a dead ringer for "Best of My Love", probably best known as the party music in Boogie Nights.

    Episode 170 - Bratz

My wife and I had a small wedding. No music, aside from the strings at the ceremony (Pachelbel, Mendelssohn, etc.)

    Episode 170 - Bratz

I suppose lazy screenwriting is the safest explanation for everything in this movie.

    Episode 170 - Bratz

This was my first observation of the movie as well. I can only conclude that Dan Gilbert underwrote this movie:

    Episode 170 - Bratz

That's a sharp observation, but I have a correction here. "Bubbie" is from yiddish, which is basically a dialect of German spoken by Ashkenazi Jews. Sephardi are basically Spanish, both culturally and in language, so it's very unlikely that any Sephardic Jew would use the word "bubbie" or any other Yiddish.

    Episode 169.5 - Minisode 169.5

Girls are definitely still growing at age 14.

    Episode 169.5 - Minisode 169.5

Yeah, there was a little intermission in the beginning of the movie that explained it. Otherwise there were zero physical cues that these characters were 2 years older. Puberty apparently does not exist in the Bratz universe.

    Episode 169.5 - Minisode 169.5

Bratz is like someone took Scary Movie and performed it straight.

    Episode 169.5 - Minisode 169.5

Bratz apparently features another fine performance for Oscar winner Jon Voight. Color me excited.

    Origin Stories Bonus: Mackenzie Astin

This was a good interview. Astin was candid, forthcoming, and seemed genuinely grateful that someone took the time to hear him out. On the second hand, I'm not sure that Blake was ready for a Maron-esque confessional interview. Still, he held his own pretty well.
  11. Man, I hated the book. I preferred the movie's dark pessimism.

Episode 169 - The Garbage Pail Kids Movie: LIVE!

Maus was part of the reason why Spiegelman bailed before the cards really got going, IIRC. Spiegelman would later become the cover artist for the New Yorker.

    Episode 168.5 - Minisode 168.5

I know the board skews younger but did anyone else collect GPK cards when they were kids? I remember having the first and second runs, full sets each, before giving them away in elementary school. The drunk one was always my favorite -- I obviously had no conception of drunkenness at the time.

I might as well share my favorite murder. Dude certainly had it coming:

I won't curse you by predicting that as the CO winner but if it's any consolation that wins my prize.

Episode 168 - Hard Ticket to Hawaii: LIVE!

Did anyone else find it funny that Jason mentioned Camille Paglia as the first feminist off his head?

Episode 167 - Chopping Mall: LIVE!

Maybe we should stop right here. Because this is pretty thinly veiled putdown, and that doesn't really have any place on these forums. Here would be a good place for me to note that Fister has a long comment history and good standing besides. But avoiding personal attacks is good policy even if the preceding weren't true. Just my 0.02.

Superman IV: The Quest for Peace (1987)

Would Damon Lindelof come back for this one? Directed by the immortal Sidney J. Furie, who has been tragically overlooked by HDTGM so far.

Do airplanes typically land on golf courses? Do they pull into parking lots like normal cars would? I'm not familiar with the vagaries of small aircraft.

Musical Mondays - Week 17 - The Lure

Loose Cannons -- the Gene Hackman/Dan Aykroyd vehicle -- would be a good HDTGM episode. /tangent

Musical Mondays - Week 17 - The Lure

You guys are lucky that I didn't put forward Menahem Golan's pet project. From my not even complete watching of the movie it would have been an assured bottom ranker in everyone's list.

Musical Mondays - Week 17 - The Lure

With the exception of cartilaginous fish (sharks et al.), fish are external fertilizers. The female lays a bunch of eggs in the water and then the male comes by and sprays its sperm all over them. This is obviously very different from how humans and other mammals reproduce. How do they reconcile *THAT* difference?

I suppose it's unfair but 1980s Poland looks like this in my mind:

HDTGM Classics vol 2 Season of the Witch

I have seen Sleepaway Camp (thanks to this show) and will definitely watch again. It is gloriously terrible.
