Don’t be “spit on the griddle.” You mean you love me for reminding you of Martini glass dancing Circus Girl.

    Episode 178.5 - Minisode 178.5

Okay, I’ve got an end of the year question for the forum. What movie could you not stop talking/thinking about this year? It doesn’t have to be from 2017. It doesn’t have to be good or bad. It just has to be remarkable. There are a few that I feel like I discussed a lot, but the one that immediately springs to mind is One From the Heart. It was...something else. Here’s my Letterboxd review: https://boxd.it/kcv4H

    Top/Bottom films of 2017

Oh, shit! You’re right, Tom! How could I forget The Christmas Prince and Christmas Inheritance? I just looked up 2017 movies on Wikipedia. I guess they didn’t include Netflix/Amazon releases. I may have to reevaluate...

    Top/Bottom films of 2017

Well, it looks like I’ve only seen 21 movies released in 2017 so I guess I’ll just list them all in order from worst to best. 21) The Great Wall 20) The Mummy 19) King Arthur: Legend of the Sword 18) xxx: Return of Xander Cage 17) Smurfs: The Lost Village 16) Alien: Covenant 15) Underworld: Blood Wars 14) The Boss Baby 13) Logan 12) Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Men Tell No Tales 11) Beauty and the Beast 10) Wonder Woman 9) Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 2 8) Kong: Skull Island 7) Lego Batman Movie 6) Power Rangers 5) The Big Sick 4) Spider-man: Homecoming 3) Captain Underpants 2) Get Out . . . . . . . . 1)
  5. I have absolutely no problem with this.
  6. I can’t remember who said they hadn’t seen it, but the first season of Pushing Daisies is currently on iTunes for 4.99
  7. Seeing as this week is a bit of a weird one, how would everyone feel if next week we made it Musical "Tuesday" instead of Monday? I just feel like a lot of people might still be in Holiday mode - myself included.
  8. Great pick, Sara! I've been wanting to watch these all year, but since I've been trying to do the DLM Challenge, if I had the choice in watching a movie that I had seen before versus one I had never seen, I tried to always go for the latter. This gives me an excuse to watch it anyway. btw - Both 1 and 2 are on HBO Go.
  9. Happy Life-Day, everyone! Keep it classy.

Musical Mondays Week 27 Baby Driver

I always took the whole Anne Hatheway hate for thinly veiled jealousy. Like Cam said, she’s never really been the center of controversy. It’s almost like she comes off too perfec: perect smile, perfect face, perfect personality, perfect job. On top of that, she also came off as the “down-to-Earth, girl-next-door.” I think people just saw that and figured there must be something up. People tend to prefer their celebrities are beautiful monsters or approachable pals. I think she didn’t fit either category and people lashed out at her.

Oh, I agree! I honestly don't know if they would have known that or not when they announced it, but it would have been nice. And, who knows, they may release it themselves eventually. Maybe this is just like an early release and not an exclusive release. To be honest, I have Howl/Stitcher and even I'm not sure if I'll be listening to it anytime soon. Maybe next week when things settle down... I hear you. I used to listen to TONS of podcasts, and at the beginning of the year I tried valiantly to keep up, but now I'm down to only two that I make a point of listening to (even if I can't listen right away): HDTGM and The Adventure Zone. And, to be honest, TAZ has been on really loose footing for awhile now. Hopefully I'll have more time next year, because I subscribe to a ton of awesome shows, but finding the time to listen to them all is really difficult. And, like you said about DLM, 2 hour episodes are great in their way, but when they're that long, I usually have to stretch my listening over a couple of days which makes it even less likely that I have time to listen to anything else. That's a weird thing to quibble about, isn't it? Something you love being too long... Regardless, HDTGM should be proud that it is winning my own private Podcast Battle Royale.

    Episode 177.5 - Minisode 177.5

Oh, sorry. I think I was having "Paywall Announcement" PTSD. I don't think I honestly thought *you* would harass Paul about it, but we both know there are people out there that totally would. FWIW, it's good to hear from you. I don't disagree with you in regard to some of the picks this year. On The Disaster Artist thread, I listed the movies they covered this year, and there was definitely a rough patch there. Even for us in America, the movies weren't always easy to find. There was also a lot of YouTubing this year. It has prevented me from participating as much as I usually like. However, that being said, taken as a whole, I think this has been a really solid year for HDTGM. If I could make a single request for 2018, I would ask - not to stop doing them - but space out some of the more "challenging" movies. There was a period that it really felt like we were drowning in misogyny soup. In hindsight, I've decided that I don't really have a problem watching/making fun of movies like Ninja Terminator, Chopping Mall, Garbage Pail Kids, and Hard Ticket, but when they're coming back-to-back (and on a bi-weekly show, that equals a long time), it gets a bit much. It also didn't help that 3/4 of those movies were crappy YouTube movies - some so pixilated to be almost unwatchable. Had they been spread out a bit more, I feel it would have been more palatable. As for me, I'm going to make more of an effort to watch these movies at an hour conducive to humor. I was trying to watch a lot if these movies while feeding my baby at 4:30-5 in the morning and I don't think I was giving them the shot they deserved. Watching Ninja Terminator at that hour, when you're half asleep and already grumpy, isn't really giving it a chance. This year, I'm only going to watch when I'm in the right mindset. Which is also why - since my boys are on vacation - I probably won't even watch Superman until next week (or the week after). Right now, we're all just Holiday focused.

Exactly! It’s like when CBB went on tour last year.

Let’s at least let the guy have a pleasant Holiday with his family first. I’m sure we can wait a week for the next mini to drop

Considering this was part of a whole festival thing, they might not have had much input in the matter. (Although, if this was the intention from the beginning, it would have been nice if it had been more widely advertised.) It’s also possible it might be released in the future as a regular episode. I believe Levar Burton Reads releases its entire season to subscribers for free, but still releases them on a regular basis for non-subscribers. If nothing else, it does exactly what it’s designed to do - encourages people to subscribe by delivering exclusive content. Which was kind of the whole point of Howl/Stitcher Premium in the first place.

Episode 177 - The Disaster Artist

Really? I'd love to have him on as a guest. I feel like he's just one of those people whose brain gets slightly ahead of him. I think he would have fantastic observations. For the record, though, I also enjoyed Kevin Smith.

Yes, but Scooby-Doo can doo-doo, but Jimmy Carter is smarter.
  21. We've always maintained a pretty loose definition of the word "Musical." Like, is The Doors a Musical? What about Walk Hard? I think this is an interesting pick because - while the characters might not break out in to song - music is integral to the storytelling. At least, that's what I've heard. I haven't seen it yet either.
  22. That's cool. I've been wanting to see this! ETA: Although, I would have preferred it if they had digitally inserted Christopher Plummer...
