    Episode 102 — Tango & Cash

Jesus "Karate Chopping" Christ, man! "Tuna can dick?" I have no idea what that is, but it is the single most horrifying thing I have ever heard. I figure you mean it is short and thick, but I simply can't get the image of a dick that has sharp edges that cut your fingers or, like, a partially circumcised penis and the foreskin is just hanging on by a small bit of skin? Thank you for the nightmares.

    Episode 102 — Tango & Cash

Apropos of not Tango and Cash. A gentleman over on "The Canon" forums over at yonder WolfPop just posted a link to something called the "People's Podcast Awards." I've never heard of these awards, but it seems legit. So, if you have a mind to, check it out and vote for your favorite shows. http://podcastawards.com/

    Episode 102 — Tango & Cash

Fair enough. You're probably right. However, that means Palance had to enact his nefarious plan pretty much on the fly. I just find it highly unlikely he could coordinate such an elaborate frame up in just a few hours. It all seems incredibly serendipitous. I guess where others might view two of your henchmen getting caught as a crisis, he only sees opportunity, and sadly, that is exactly why I can never be a criminal mastermind. When life gives him lemons, he digs deep into his "people who are easily corruptible" Rolodex and makes lemonade We can all learn so much from his example.

    Episode 102 — Tango & Cash

Okay, this may actually have been addressed in the movie, but--believe it or not--I am having a hard time with Palance's plan. According to Palance, he has to get rid of Tango and Cash within two weeks. He sets it up that they find the dead guy in the warehouse to frame them. Okay, so far so good. I imagine that the Asian guy that Cash interrogates at the beginning is a set up so that he will be at the right place at the right time, so my question is: How did Tango know to be there? I honestly don't remember a scene where he discovers a piece of crucial evidence or is told that something is going down at that location. He just sort of shows up. What we do know is that when Tango and Cash have their meet cute, Cash says he has been on the case for 30 minutes, yet Tango says he has been tracking this guy for three months!!! If this is the case, how could Palance be so sure that they would both be in the right place at the right time for his plan to come together? As far as he knows, the two have never met so there is no reason they would share that information with one another. And If he was so confident that Tango was a good enough detective to track them to that specific warehouse at that specific time all without planting false evidence, why was he never able to pull off any of his other jobs? It seems to me that once you realize you have someone on your trail, it should be very easy to exploit that knowledge to your advantage. However, this does lead to one of those ambiguous "is that a joke?" moments. Cash says something to the effect of, "This is my bust!" End scene. Next scene, Cash says, "Okay, this is your bust..." In any other movie I would say it was meant as a joke, but since it is not delivered like a joke, I honestly cannot tell. It is like Tango and Cash both suffered from severe short term memory loss....possibly from personally testing the drugs at all of their busts.

    Episode 102 — Tango & Cash

Are we doing favorite lines? Mine has to be-- TANGO--"Where'd you learn to drive??" CASH--"Stevie Wonder!" Wait...What? But, then again, that is how most of the dialog seemed to go. Half of it was just them saying each other's names and the other half was delivered/directed so poorly I couldn't tell if it was a joke or just bad writing. It's like the film was written by a schizophrenic Dadaist.

And also, should we be surprised when the escape plan orchestrated by Cash's friend--the assistant warden of this burning den of insanity--doesn't work?

    Episode 102 — Tango & Cash

Did anyone find it odd that the British henchman couldn't give a shit when they were holding him over the roof of the building, but is pissing himself a second later when they strap the grenade to his head? Why would the method of death make a difference? My take on it was that he knew they were "good guys" and they would never actually drop him, but if that's the case, why wouldn't he just assume the grenade thing is just another empty threat? Is he really that afraid of having his head exploded by a grenade? Seems a much quicker way to go if you ask me...

    Episode 102 — Tango & Cash

Not only that, when he is about to test it the dog is pointed directly at them! Thank God, the dog's head blew up! Also, how is an old person supposed to aim that dog gun? Isn't it more unwieldy than just carrying a gun? Do you need one at every entrance? Does it only shoot people in the dick? LAPD's Q branch has a lot of explaining to do....

    Episode 102 — Tango & Cash

This bugged me too! Tango calls Cash a "thrill seeker" and a "glory hound," but only after having a conversation with his boss where he is asked, "Why do you do it? You've got enough money..." at which point Tango replies, "I do it for the action." I swear this is why the screenwriter felt the need to either begin or punctuate each line of dialog with either "Tango" or "Cash." If the two of them were alone in a scene together, how else was he supposed to remember who was who?

    Episode 102 — Tango & Cash

Wow! There is a lot to unpack on this one, I don't even know where to begin. This could easily have been HDTGM's first two-parter. First of all, for me, this movie felt obliquely off-putting. It was like going over to a couple's house for dinner, and even though they are acting civil with one another, you can tell some shit is going on beneath the surface. The best way I could describe it is to say it was the visual representation of a long form non sequitur. I will say this though, the audio guy was definitely the top in his field. Do you want to know how I know? When splicing the tape together, he managed to put in a lame joke about cops being "human garbage just like everyone else" right at the end--y'know just to make it extra clear that the people he is dealing with are in fact cops. I appreciate the extra effort this must have taken to splice this exact sequence of words together to make it feel all the more authentic. Next time I need to to frame someone by way of audio evidence, I've got my guy. Also, based on the overly elaborate "game" Palance employs to get rid of Tango & Cash, I think his character is more the poor man's Frank Gorshin, than Jack Nicholson. How great would it be, if after years of being thwarted by Batman in Gotham, the Riddler had relocated to Los Angeles to spend his golden years drug smuggling and arms dealing? Now that's a fucking movie!

Dude, that's awesome! I know you work hard on these and I in no way want to take up anymore of your time or impose upon your talent, but Is there anyway you can add 5 Hour Energy power up to your masterpiece? Either way I look forward to whatever you cook up next!

Shoot man, that's some august company right there. I'm not sure I deserve it, but thank you. I think part of the "nothing" I won for C&O has to go to Plan B though as he coined "Xana-2" first. Great episode all around! I love the new theme song! Not sure if Cleve is on the boards, but nice work! Episode 101 — Xanadu: LIVE!

Good catches, Lillian! To expand on your second point, Danny tells Sonny that they used to have wrestling there back in the day. I mean, it appears to be very big from the outside, but is it actually the size of, like, an arena? That club would be HUGE! I simply can't imagine what the overhead would be for a building that size. I imagine Xanadu--a roller-skating, disco-rock, big band fusion club that apparently doesn't serve alcohol and has a stage in prime dancing real estate simply so one of the owner's girlfriend can perform--would have to be packed every single night to remain solvent. I would love it if Xanadu had a stinger after the credits of Danny and Sonny putting an "Out of Business" sign on the door, shrug, and say, "Well, that was a piss poor idea..." Or maybe they will save that for the sequel: Xana-2...

How did you start listening to Nerd Poker?

I have never played DnD and just got into listening to podcasts at the beginning of last year. I started with the Cracked Podcast and from there started listening to HDTGM. Fortunately, I have plenty of time at work to listen to podcasts, so once I was caught up with HDTGM, I was looking for something else. I was familiar with Brian's comedy, and one of my favorite movies is Gamers: Dorkness Rising so I thought Nerd Poker would be a perfect fit. I was not disappointed and have been listening ever since. So, to answer the question, um, "Other?"

    Episode 110 — Clown Dog

Could "ignoring" or "tuning out" a PSA you don't want to listen be an option? I mean, rather than trying to make what sounds to be a personal issue into a community issue. If not, my advice would be every time this PSA comes on, light up! That'll show those Truth motherfuckers.

    Episode 110 — Clown Dog

Great episode! Dan definitely gets the MVRP for the day! (For a second, when "It's been awhile'" was spontaneously sung, I thought I might actually be listening to UTU2TM. Which is never a bad thing. )

    Episode 101 — Xanadu: LIVE!

I think this may explain why she sounds so checked out during that scene. Maybe Hera was so sick of dealing with Zeus' bastard offspring that--by way of ambrosia--she self-medicated herself into idiocy. Heck, I'm surprised that in that state she didn't try hitting on Sonny. He was wearing awfully short shorts after all...

    Episode 101 — Xanadu: LIVE!

So I was watching The Last Slumber Party with Rifftrax this weekend and on the girl's wall--next to a couple Bee Gees and Beatles posters--was a poster for this film. This movie was never big was it? I'm talking like, at the time, a person wouldn't think to themselves, "Xanadu and the Beatles, these are two things of similar quality and should therefore be displayed in equal measure?"

Wow. All I can say is that it is nice that the institution--where I assume you must currently reside--allows you the use of the old Internet. Very progressive.

That was you! You sir are now my enemy! Dave Matthews is the Messiah of Music!

Does Nerd Poker change from early to later podcasts?

I try not to engage in these kinds of troll-ish shenanigans, but I would be remiss if I didn't point out that this is a totally free podcast that no one is forcing you to listen to. If the game play or humor is not your cup of tea, that's totally cool. Feel free to unsubscribe. I think everyone would be better served. Better yet, get a group of your friends, start a podcast about D&D, and make the premise that you all follow each and every 5e rule to the letter. (You should still unsubscribe to Nerd Poker though, that's key!) I am sure there are literally dozens of people dying to listen. I'm sure the NP forums can provide you with countless titles you could call it. I'm thinking: Shut Up and Listen to Our Awesome Game: the podcast! And as a rebuttal to one of your earlier posts, yes, there have been occasions in the past where they have asked for game play advice, and I think they do take their listener's criticisms to heart, but maybe you would be better served framing your complaint in the form of constructive criticism rather then quibbling about episodes that were recorded over a year ago and attacking the DM-ing skills of a cast member who is no longer on the show. Just a thought.

    Episode 101 — Xanadu: LIVE!

Kira is the daughter of Zeus (God) and is basically a creation of His to fulfill a function, right? Extrapolating from that, does anyone else wonder why God seems to be so invested in the creation of a nightclub filled with juggling mimes, roller skates, people dressed in zoot suits and karate gi, and trapeze artists? Also, to second Jason's thought, if your hierarchy when describing what is a "hot" rock and roll band should be is "electric orange jump suits, synthesizers, heavy percussion, and electric guitars," then your Rock priorities are completely out of whack.
