I don't remember the exact dialog, but in that same scene, she says, "Look at what they're saying about you" (i.e. "blaming you for the deaths of the people who were killed after you rescued me"), and he dismissively says something like, "I don't care about that." What?!? You don't care that people died as a direct result of your intervention? Um...you should. You really, really should. Even if you don't think there's anything you could have done about it, it should at least bother you. There were also a couple scenes where he was like, "I failed because I was so focused on you, that I missed such and such." Oh, brother. Wow. What a "super" guy... But to be fair, Alfred's constant nagging of Bruce about settling down and having kids really bugged me too. First of all, this guy doesn't need to be fathering any children, and secondly, who gives a fuck? I know it was being played for "laughs," but dear God did I roll my eyes every time it came up--which was like, every time they were in a scene together.

God! You guys make me want to see that movie so bad! I'll be honest, the first trailer didn't do much for me, but the second one got me interested. And now reading how much you both enjoyed it... I've already decided I'm just going to buy it when it comes out, but of course, that won't be for months. So, I guess a couple of months from now, once everyone has moved on to the next best thing, you can expect me to post my thoughts on it. Fuck, my life is like living on a time delay...

I know Ghostbusters is the thing right now, but as always, I'm a few months behind on new movies. I just wanted to say I finally watched Batman V. Superman and...(surprise, surprise) I didn't like it. What's funny though, is it wasn't exactly what I expecting. For starters, I didn't think it was that bad, certainly not to the level everyone was making it out to be, just not very good--and better than Man of Steel (or, at least, I enjoyed it more). In a lot of ways, based on the negativity surrounding it, it wasn't what I was expecting. However, as much as I feel it wasn't as bad as I thought it would be, it was also waaaaaaaaaaaaay dumber than I expected. Never mind superhumans, it was like the screenwriters didn't even understand regular humans! I will say though, I laughed a lot at the phoney gravitas. It was ridiculous. As my final thought, one of my favorite recurring moments (and I'm sure this happens in real life, but has no business in a movie where it can easily be fixed) is the amount of times the staff at the Daily Planet had to watch Television news to find out what was going on. At one point, Perry White even crafts a headline based on one of these stories! Um...aren't you guys a newspaper? If you're reporting on things that your seeing on TV, then it's not really "news," is it? No wonder print media is dying! I mean, it's weird what aspects of the comics they were slavish to and what aspects they changed. Why not simplify it and just make the Daily Planet a television news organization?

Ha! Yeah, I had to go back and check that I was hearing him correctly. Like, I wrote it down when he said it, but then when I looked at it later I was like, "That can't be right, can it?" He says it right after he gets off the phone with the Queen. There were A LOT of quotes in that movie, I honestly had trouble choosing. The Shadow has a lot too, but I think I'm settled. I just have to go back to that scene since the quote is quite long, but I think it made me laugh the hardest--which are usually the ones I pull. It's funny though, when I originally started putting quotes from the movies on my posts, I wanted them to be, like, the most boring quotes you could pull. It just made me laugh to think of elevating the most innocuous lines into something profound. Oh well...

And how does he go to the bathroom?!?

Since we're on a bit of a scatological bent, did you all know that since it was so difficult to get in and out of a suit of armor, knights used to just shit and piss themselves? It was then usually their poor squire's job to wash it all out. It also explains why a relatively minor wound could get easily infected and lead to death. When you think of the stench, it kind of puts a damper on the whole "Knight in Shinning Armor" fantasy...

Well, considering (as you've said) the time restrictions one might face when engaged in the "bustin'" of ghosts, and the likelihood of literally losing your shit when approached by said ghosts, I think there's only one real solution...

I finished The Shadow this morning. I'm not really sure what to say about it at this point--I may need to let it percolate for a little bit. As others have said already, I liked the set design and enjoyed a lot of the pulpy elements. In fact, I'd almost say its not really bad enough to be a HDTGM movie. For any other movie, I might have found nits to pick, but...considering it's origins as a pulp comic and radio show, anything I might have had to say about it were easily brushed away as genre conventions. Does everything make sense? No, not really. But in context of the movie they are trying to make and the story they're trying to tell, I didn't really have a problem with it. I enjoyed a lot of the acting (i.e. acting choices), especially Shiwan Khan. If I had any complaint, I feel like the movie dragged a little bit. I guess what I want from my HDTGM movies is a movie that is trying to be one thing and failing miserably, and in that respect, I can't say that this movie really failed. However, I am eager to hear what the gang has to say about it!

Moments in life when you know you're killing it as a parent: When you're watching Dr. Who and the four-year-old in your lap suddenly says, "EXTERMINATE!"

Yeah, I don't know what I can say about Crimson Peak except that I respectfully disagree... I thought it was fairly well-acted. I'm not much for "Horror" movies, and I kind of knew already that it wasn't that, which is I gave it a chance in the first place. It's just, to me, it felt long and meandering when it really didn't need to be. It also felt like it was trying so hard to be incredibly clever, but it was never really ahead of me in order to earn that, I don't know what to call it...smugness? This isn't to say, "Look at me. I'm so smart" it's just, personally, I was never all that surprised by it. And when it would pull back the curtain, I was like, "Yeah, I know." It felt like it was all style, no substance. When my wife and I were talking about it later, I was telling her I would have preferred that the whole movie just occurred in the main character's head. Like, her own insecurities were manifesting this decrepit old house and this strange incestuous relationship, when in reality, it was a normal suburban house with a perfectly healthy brother/sister relationship, and that the "horror" (so to speak), was primarily a product of her own imagination and perceptions. Not saying that that is incredibly original, but it would have been something. In the end, I found it to be entirely forgettable. The only things I really took away from it were these two things. Firstly, no matter what you were in life, your ghost will be a gruesome Hell Spawn. And secondly, if after I've passed I ever need to warn my loved ones of some evil may come there way, I'm going to go with a lighter touch. Why? Because they're my loved ones and I don't really want to terrify them. That's just not cool.

Glad to hear Ghostbusters is good! I am looking forward to seeing it, but of course, that won't be until I can get it on Amazon. I truly wish I could have seen that instead of the movie I did see this weekend--Crimson Peak--which I felt was absolute garbage (and not in a fun HDTGM way either). However, my big question is: what's everyone's take on The Shadow? I only made it (maybe) halfway yesterday, and when I had the opportunity to pick up where I left off this morning, I really couldn't conjure up the desire to do so...I really wanted to like it, and I felt like it started interestingly enough, but after awhile, I just felt it had gotten tedious. I don't know, maybe it's just me. What I can say, is every time I try to talk about it, I keep wanting to call it The Spirit instead of The Shadow. I can't help but wonder if The Spirit (which I have not seen) might have been a more interesting pick...

I don't know if Jason would be terribly interested in that, but here was my thought: maybe get some comedian couples that they are friendly with to fill in for a bit? Like, if available--which they probably aren't on such short notice--see if Kumail Nanjiani and Emily Gordon are available or Matt Gourley and Amanda Lund. As for the mini-episodes, maybe Marissa or Nate (or both) could fill in...The episodes don't have to be terribly involved or anything, just the next movie and whatever housekeeping is required (although I think they could do more if they wanted to). That would cover an entire month of shows. Of course, these are just pie in the sky suggestions. Seeing as my wife is due around the same time as June, I totally understand the need for paternity leave--which I will be taking as well. I just wish them both all the happiness in the world and a healthy baby. I'll certainly miss it, but I can definitely live without HDTGM for a little bit knowing that they're both happy.

In regard to the whole Ghostbusters thing...I just wanted Taylor Anne to know that I am emphatically nodding to everything she's saying. However, since it would be an absolute joke, and completely unnecessary, if I tried to say anything to try and reinforce her eloquent, impassioned, and completely justifiable arguments, I will instead say nothing. #silenceismysupport

One aspect of Jason's character that really bugged me was that he often seemed more interested in making Jessie feel or look stupid rather than actually helping her acclimate to her new reality. While I get having a store mannequin come to life in front of you would be a very jarring experience, his first instinct is to blast a fire extinguisher five inches from her face? What the fuck, man? Who would ever do that? I get it, you're trying to convince her that she's in the future, but maybe explain what that thing in your hand is first before you blast it right next next to her face. Shit, I know what a fire extinguisher does and I'd still jump if someone just picked one up in front of me and unexpectedly pulled the trigger. And he does things like this to her repeatedly! He's so busy showing off "future" stuff, but he never takes the time to explain what it is or what it's used for--especially when it's something she might really need to know. For example, when they go to the club, she tells him she needs to, "go to the bushes" (i.e. go to the bathroom), but he never explains to her what a toilet even is! He just kind of lets her fend for herself. Is he thinking, "Well, if she runs to any problems she can just ask someone in the restroom?" And before you say, "I'm sure she's not so dumb that she can't figure out a toilet" I'd just like to remind you this is the same person, that in just the scene before, was eating the paper her food was wrapped in! I guess I'm willing to accept that she comes from a culture so primitive and backward that she's never heard of the concept of wrapping a thing inside another thing before, but by him already knowing that this is her base level of understanding, he really needed to give her some prep before just setting her loose. And while I'm on the topic of the bathroom scene, I have two more things.. First, and this may be my "who wants to eat before trying on clothes" comment for this episode, but isn't sharing lipstick with a total rando kind of gross? I mean, unless you're a very close friend or relative, if I have some chapstick that you take from me and use, all I can say is, "Congratulations--you own that now." And finally, did anyone else notice Jason poked his head into the the Ladies' Room he took a quick look around before ducking back out? Why are you even putting your head through the door. I believe the correct protocol in such a situation is to open the door with your back to the door and call over your shoulder. Ugh! That dude is such a creep!

I hate to break it to you all, but I'm not quite done talking about Mannequin Two... After the cold open, we are introduced to Jason as he rushes to his first day of work at Prince & Co. Once he arrives, he is told to report to Mr. James. He does so, right as Mr. James Hollywood's current assistant is fired, and Jason is promptly given that position; however, I have some questions about this scene. First of all, Mr. James seems to have no knowledge of this new hire, which is fine as I'm sure he's a busy guy, but if Jason wasn't hired to work directly under him, why would be told to meet with him? Shouldn't he be reporting to HR or a department head? Won't the department he was hired to work for be upset that they to go through the expense and hassle of going through the hiring process all over again? However this leads me to perhaps the bigger question: What exactly was Jason hired to do? I mean, he just shows up, is given a company credit card, and then is just sort of left to his own devices. The only reason he becomes Hollywood's assistant is because the person who had held that position literally just got fired five seconds before he showed up. Has anyone ever applied for a job and been hired without any prior knowledge of what that position actually is? Shouldn't he be like, "Actually, Mr. James, I'm your new accountant. I'm not exactly sure that I'm the best person to assist your Chief Officer in Charge of Visual Merchandising put on presentations for foreign dignitaries." This also makes me think: how pissed must have the other employees been to miss out on such a cush position? I know if I worked at Prince & Co, all I would want in the world is to work with Hollywood! You mean to tell me, after five long years of shilling your cheap, stank-ass, cologne, I don't even get a shot at that position because some chuckle head new hire just happened to be standing behind you when you shit-canned that other guy? Fuck you, Mr. James! I'm out!

Well, the first part of the play actually plays more as a Comedy. And while it may not be a Tragedy in the Greek sense, I would certainly still consider it a Tragedy--as I would any story that ends with a couple of teenagers committing suicide and the stabby weapons deaths of two others. Maybe it's a drama with tragic elements? But, yes, I'm curious as well. If not a tragedy, then what? I was an English Lit major, so I might have to defer to Ultimate Trekker's knowledge on this one. Although, I'm glad we can all agree that Mercutio was the shit! "O, Then I see Queen Mab as hath been with you."

Oh, let's not let Juliet completely off the hook considering her attraction to him seems to stem from the fact that Romeo is more Zac Efron, while Paris is more Crypt Keeper. They are both shallow, horrible little monsters. Yes, R&J is a tragedy, but not for the reasons most people seem to think.

I don't know...When I'm at the movies and a murder occurs onscreen, I like to make a quick mental note of anyone in the theater who looks visibly upset, because if they're at all unsettled by the depiction of a gruesome murder onscreen, then they're obviously guilty of something. Of course, I only call the cops on them if I have probable cause (i.e. my ghost relative has clued me in to something being up).

Now all I want to do is make fun of what ineffectual, blundering chowder head Hamlet was...and don't even get me started on Romeo & Codependence (AKA Mercutio is the Best Thing in this Play)
