Just curious, what do you think you're accomplishing here, rhetorically speaking? Are you trying to imply that I don't think rape is bad? You feel my phrase that you called out is insufficient to cover the actions of some in Hollywood who are criminals? I disagree. Rapists and abusers are absolutely shitty people. So what's your purpose here, apart from trying to reassert some kind of weird alpha-poster dominance with your hair-splitting and your "impressive" signature? I have neither the time nor patience for this. If you just want to put words in my mouth or nitpick to serve your own agenda, kindly don't bother replying next time, or just mute me, as I certainly plan to do with you.

To paraphrase the late Harlan Ellison, buying a book or a movie ticket doesn't give you the right to do any more than read the book or watch the movie. If you also want that price to guarantee that everyone involved in its production fits your moral code, whatever that might be, prepare for the price of everything to go up substantially. And while you're at it, apply the same rigor to, say, Facebook, which lots of people still seem to be on but is arguably a much bigger danger to the world than anything done by any celebrity who isn't named Trump. Or hell, the so-called church of Scientology. And lots of other so-called churches, lobbies and so on. As others are essentially saying, you gotta do you. Everyone does, after all. Why we suddenly feel the need to argue about the moral merits of the same few dozen celebrities, I can't imagine. They're symbols, I suppose, of particular social ills that we wish would go away. But they are also just human beings like everyone else. I dearly love Audrey Hepburn, but she sure as hell wasn't perfect. No one is. I like to think, as someone who is also far from perfect and who also makes art and sells it to people sometimes, that the art is often where a flawed person can be their best selves, and try to express their ideas and feelings where otherwise perhaps they can't. I guess my point is, if you want to battle the evil in your world, artists of any type are probably already on your side, even if they are shitty people. You can concentrate on actual enemies like, say, your rapist "president" and his oligarch masters first.

No, you are not the only one. Penn's temper and abuse of his wife and photographers doesn't seem to have ever had public negative impact to his career. Ironic that he played a soulful photographer in the last thing I liked him in (Ben Stiller's remake of Walter Mitty). We really put up with a lot of bullshit from self-absorbed method actors back then, telling ourselves they were passionate. I think in Penn's case, he's just a dick.

I'm guessing that given the slogan on the poster ("Mercy for the Brave Boys") it's a World War 1 era poster entreating women to lend support to the war effort as nurses and caregivers. The uniform and colour scheme is reminiscent of British posters from the time. And since much of fantasy literature and gaming was inspired by World War 1 and 2, it's still relevant to Zelda.

As a theatre nerd I am into musicals (except most Webber and his imitators) and would be delighted to suggest a thing or two.

Good on you. I just did a how-to-make comics talk at the library in the city I used to live. And you're right, ppl should absolutely use the library to read the comics they can't afford. In Canada and I assume other countries, the creators can actually claim royalties through a government program based on library readership.

To the guy who called in wondering about poly, I'm poly. It's interesting sometimes. The conclusion Paul came to is fine but not really that much advice, so here's mine: - there's all kinds of poly. Some groups all have emotional and sexual connections to each other, some have setups where someone is a primary partner and someone is secondary, etc. etc. The most important factor in any poly relationship is open communication. You may choose to all sit down together and talk about how you feel and how you want it to work, and what kind of rules you should have, and then proceed accordingly if you can come to an agreement. Then keep checking in. - join Fetlife. Lots of poly people on there to talk to, lots of good advice and writing. - be honest. With yourself and your partners. If something isn't working, say so. You never know when someone will be willing to make an adjustment you need, or propose an alternative you haven't considered. - read Dan Savage or listen to his podcast. Good luck!

Bahaha. I don't really have any disagreement on the movie speculations. I'm happy with Endgame as it is. I do like to try and spot weird little things that seem meaningless at first but turn out to be important later. I went and read that article you linked to and there are some interesting speculations in the comments - the Russo brothers have allegedly confirmed that Steve goes into a different timeline to live out his life. I like to think it was with Peggy, either in an alternate timeline or that it was always him who she married in her TV series, and she just doesn't know him in Winter Soldier due to her dementia. The latter option is certainly sadder. Have you watched the TV series The Leftovers? It's a brilliant and terrifying story about what happens when a seemingly random 2% of the population just disappears. It's been on my mind thanks to Infinity War. Now I wonder if the author of the book The Leftovers was based on was inspired by the Infinity War comics... The other thing I kept thinking about while watching Endgame was an Avengers annual from the 1970s by Jim Starlin which basically wraps up his classic Adam Warlock story. It includes a huge battle with Thanos and The Avengers. They have a special credit thanking Starlin for his "significant" contributions to the film. Everyone: comic shops and comic artists need your love and money. If you loved Endgame, get to a comic shop and buy the trade collection of Starlin's Warlock. It's some of the trippiest shit you'll ever read and it will give you a preview of what's coming up with the Guardians of the Galaxy and probably Captain Marvel.

As the movie itself points out several times, the Back to the Future model of time travel is bullshit. Because, you know. All time travel is bullshit. The only thing that bothered me a little about Steve's ending - which I pretty much have been expecting since the first Cap film - is that there is a scene in Winter Soldier where he visits old Peggy and sees that she eventually did marry and have a family. I plan to go back and look at that scene a little more closely and see if there are any hints - was it always Steve, and she just couldn't tell him because her mind was going at that point? Seeing all the cameos was a lot of fun. They even brought in Jarvis from the Agent Carter series, though I didn't notice any SHIELD characters apart from Fury, Coulson and Hill, which kind of sucks for the rest of that cast. I think my favourite moment of the calvary-arrives scene was Spider-Man's return. The only moment of the movie that didn't make sense for me was when Tony grabs the infinity stones out of the gauntlet somehow and puts them into his armor. It was so quick I felt like I missed something. Other random thoughts: I like that not only is Gamora back, she doesn't seems to especially like Peter Quill, never mind love him. Captain Marvel is still the fucking best. Brie Larson's ability to switch from cool deadpan to warm humour is perfect for the role. I enjoyed Smart Hulk and Beer Gut Thor. Not so much Ronin (I think that is what Hawkeye calls himself in the comics when he goes rogue). I was hoping his daughter would turn out to be Kate Bishop, the other (and arguably better) Hawkeye. When Banner talks about how he should use the stones because most of the radiation involved is gamma, I wondered if they were setting up a Planet Hulk story. For that matter, now that they have a Microverse (sorry, "quantum realm") they could adapt Harlan Ellison's old Hulk story. But I don't know if Ruffalo plans on starring in anything else for Marvel. I wonder if they will introduce Amadeus Cho. The tapping noise in lieu of an end credits cookie is being speculated about online - some think it's meant to represent Tony making the first Iron Man suit in the cave. Others theorize that it is some kind of hint toward the next major (Earth-based) villain - Namor, the Sub-Mariner. And if that is the case, I have to wonder - now that Disney/Marvel are basically richer than God, why not buy back the Fantastic Four rights? And just buy the Micronauts rights for that matter, once and for all? The cosmic heroes are going to be fighting the likes of Adam Warlock, and I think they are also developing a film of The Eternals. Sure would be nice to have Galactus and the Silver Surfer available. I expect they will introduce the SWORD initiative back on Earth as well. Maybe Captain Universe? Does Peter Parker go back to fucking high school? Or is that a university where he reunites with Ned after 5 years? Or maybe Ned was dusted too so they both have to go back? It was pretty ballsy of them to introduce Tony's daughter and then kill him. Seemed a little random that a rat basically got the whole thing going by activating the van in the storage locker, but whatever.

If she died at her senior prom (which I assume is the premise), those pictures would have been taken in the fall. But if her picture is different/more glamourous than the rest, my assumption would be that it's all part of the haunting. Much like getting the photos done themselves, I'm guessing she picked an 8x10, 2 5x7s, half a dozen wallet sized photos, and the haunted yearbook photo. It's an expensive add-on but people REALLY remember it.

Yup. Very common to have not only professionally taken grad photos in a gown, we used to do outdoor pictures in our Sunday best as well to give out to bemused family members.

Holy crap. I don't know if I would have noticed the parallels if I hadn't been thinking about The Wicker Man thanks to this board, but I think I just watched, like... the inverse of The Wicker Man? The Wicker Man in reverse? Whatever it is, it's called Apostle, it stars Dan Stevens from Legion and Michael Sheen. And it is crazy. Not Mandy crazy, but crazy. It is now on Netflix here in Grecoville.

I noticed Craven and figured yeah, that makes sense since the director clearly borrowed a lot from Nightmare on Elm Street (I think someone in the podcast mentions that the director also talked to Craven for advice?) There is a lot of that kind easter egging in horror, with directors playing bit parts in each others' films and naming stuff after each other.

How to explain The Pirate Movie? It's like they were hoping for a success like Grease, only they built the script of this "musical" around The Pirates of Penzance and added some truly awful original songs.
