Episode 233 — Space Jam LIVE!
theworstbuddhist replied to Smigg.'s topic in How Did This Get Made?
I think Jason may be traumatized from watching Jacob's Ladder and people forcing him to relive it almost every episode, so it makes sense to me that he rejects the idea of the soul. -

I don't know how well it did commercially but the Into The Spider-Verse soundtrack is pretty great. -

Not to be that guy but before, during and after the release of Fast 9 I will have this going through my head: -

That's a lovely album. I like a lot of Richter's work, especially the stuff in The Leftovers. See also: Cliff Martinez. -

Over the years it's been dumb stuff I can quote and laugh at like Megaforce (still waiting for that episode to air!), Baseketball, and Hot Rod. Lately it's been the Netflix film of To All the Boys I've Loved Before. -

As Don Henley observed, this is the end of the innocence. -
This reminded me, Carvey did a great episode of Conan O'Brien's podcast Conan O'Brien Needs a Friend, and then came back on for a few more "deep dive" episodes. All much more fun to listen to than any moment of Master of Disguise.

High five, Cameron H, we both got told off by Paul this week, lol. Not that I disagree with him in my case. The parenting advice reminded me of something that I would like to recommend to all new parents: a book called Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child. My first wife and I received it from friends when we had my son and we followed its advice (which basically boils down to let your kid cry for a while, learn to self-soothe, etc) and it was very effective. As it turns out I am going to need it again myself later this year, I am happy to say that my wife and I are having our first child in July. We are very excited. I realized today that this kid could very well live to see the year 2100. Anyway, hopefully the gang will tour somewhere near us in 2021 so we can give our baby to Jason to hold. I'm a little surprised that they picked next week's movie, though god knows it deserves it. It would be great if they could get Dana Carvey as the guest, I suspect he'd be into it. Or Norm MacDonald!

Seeing this was an unexpected delight. Like a flashback in an episode of Leverage. -

So I may now have a copy of Double Down, and about ten minutes in we have this moment. -

Age of consent is apparently 16 in Washington state, so I guess not. One of the things about this film is that it was made in and around Seattle, I think? Fun fact, Neil Breen is 62! Also, from IMDb: -
Robert Vaughn! Christopher Lee! Space vampires, I think? UFOs! Anal probing! Gratuitous nudity! Terrible effects even by the standards of 1977! Made proudly here in Canada, by Canadians, for no one! It's....... STARSHIP INVASIONS!

Starship Invasions (1977)
theworstbuddhist replied to theworstbuddhist's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
It's hardly rocket science to search YouTube for a film or for a filmmaker to send a C&D to YouTube, but sure. We'll just hang out here in your World Wide Web forum and not use hyperlinks. -
I think I just have a soft spot for films that are like a fever dream Plus I remember some really great performances.

Starship Invasions (1977)
theworstbuddhist replied to theworstbuddhist's topic in Bad Movie Recommendations
I'm watching it now and it is as terrible as I remember. I had entirely forgotten about its crazy jazz fusion score, I would actually listen to this if I had a record of it. Edit: Oh snap! THERE IS A RECORD OF IT -

Fun fact, the only lobby card I own is for Starship Invasions! It's this one. -

This is so much more enjoyable than FF and indeed many of the films covered by the podcast. -
I missed a lot of good looking movies this year for one reason or another, but I did sit down the other day and came up with this for a top 10 of what I did see from 1 to 10: Parasite Avengers: Endgame Once Upon a Time in Hollywood Us Spider Man Far From Home Midsommar Ad Astra Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker Under the Silver Lake Knives Out I also started a bottom 10 list but only had two films from the year that I actually hated: Serenity and MIB International. Which leaves all of the following as pictures that kind of landed in the middle: Booksmart Replicas Lego Movie 2 Cold Pursuit Isn’t It Romantic Alita: Battle Angel Captain Marvel Triple Frontier Shazam! Shadow The Hustle John Wick 3 Brightburn Godzilla: King of Monsters Dark Phoenix F&FP: Hobbs and Shaw Dora and the Lost City of Gold Hustlers Monos Joker Zombieland: Double Tap Charlie’s Angels Jumanji: The Next Level Plus some film festival pictures that I didn't put on because they aren't in wide release. I mostly wish I had seen The Lighthouse, which I still haven't seen, and Little Women, which I think we are seeing this weekend maybe.

Pornhub, I guess, per Jason? And there is an official site to buy the bluray from. Not that I recommend that at all. There is a version including commentary by Neil Breen on YouTube, which I am going to need to be much higher than I currently am to watch. It really is such an awful film, and not really in a fun way. It makes Birddemic look like Citizen Kane. If it makes June feel any better, I think that actress whose age she is concerned about is 25 now, which means she was about 17 or 18 when she made the movie? And she apparently does a lot of small parts in Disney series so... she's OK? I guess? -
Bumping this because someone else's recent dino film recommendation reminded me of it. A buddy and I used to make a lot of Carnosaur jokes when we worked together in the late 90s/early 2000s. It was on the movie network a lot here in Canada - maybe it was made here? Anyway, it's the kind of awful that would probably work well on the show.

Free Trashy Movies on VUDU! Now with ads!
theworstbuddhist replied to GrahamS.'s topic in How Did This Get Made?
I'm guessing someone grabbed the first half, and thought the second disc was just a duplicate copy, not realizing the movie is super long and would require two cartridges just as it required two VHS tapes. These all came from a free stuff bin outside a record shop here in town.- 11 replies

Since this is the only place and the only people I can think of who might care about this: I recently acquired a SpectraVision laserdisc of the second half of Heaven's Gate. I also picked up Bergman's Fanny and Alexander, Bogdanovich's Paper Moon, and Mike Nichols' Carnal Knowledge, which I have never seen but now I think I kind of want to. I should add that I do not have a SpectraVision disc player, and have not even seen one since the early 1980s. But if you have one, and would like one of these movies, I'm sure we can work out something out.- 11 replies

Episode 227 - Double Dragon: LIVE!

Silent Hill? Resident Evil? Final Fantasy? None of them classics to be sure but certainly all as good as Jumanji if that is the quality line. -

Oh, so Ed and Joe are the Jack City guys? That makes total sense, they used to do movie-based skits on their show all the time. Man I miss that show.
