Du Bois or any of the other hints about the formation of the organization that would say it wasn't all decided just 50 years ago? "Colored" was considered polite from the end of the Civil War to around the end of WWII, but by the 1950s-60s "Negro" was preferred (by MLK and that strain of civil rights) or "Black" (by Malcolm X and that strain of civil rights) 1 Share this post Link to post
