dervish7 0 Posted May 13, 2013 Two for the Money is a pretty bad film featuring Al Pacino at his Pacinoist, and Matthew McConaughey before his career was renewed over the past few years. If nothing else, Pacino's pronunciation of the word "talons" makes this film worthy of the How Did This Get Made? treatment. Summary: After suffering a career-ending injury, a former college football star aligns himself with one of the most renowned touts in the sports-gambling business. Share this post Link to post
pbnews 93 Posted May 13, 2013 This is apparently based on a real sports tout who "picks winners at 75% accuracy," which is obviously bullshit [the way touts work is to make picks on dozens of different "sheets," then advertise the sheets that perform well ("I've picked nine in a row!") and bury the other ones...] Literally (sorry!) anyone could do this, and obviously if you actually were a "sports savant" as the movie portrays Matty McC, you would not bother selling picks -- you'd jackpot the books on your own (or with partners, if you managed to get blacklisted). I saw this movie when it came out, and don't remember if it would make a good HDGTM episode or not -- but I guess you can't really go wrong with those two leads... Share this post Link to post
RyanSz 3140 Posted May 13, 2013 This movie was horrible. I remember there being a huge subplot where Pacino thought McC was banging Renee Ruso his wife, and for some reason they let him believe it even though they were just talking about random shit. What's great about it is that Pacino is so mercurial in the movie, one second thanking McC for having great picks and making the firm money and then the next second telling him to go fuck himself if he doesn't like his cut of the profits because he asked wrong.
